Chapter: Finality
As it turned out, not much had to be done except to help Catherine call people to let them know about the schedule for the services. Everything was already arranged by Randy before it happened and they just needed to finalize it.Catherine asked me to give a eulogy for Raiden and as I stepped into the podium, I was so nervous I could barely walk. My knees are shaking and I don’t ev

Chapter: Pause
I was about to go to bed when I got the call. It was Randy and I can hear Catherine in the background. I knew even before he said hello. “No,” was all I could muster before I broke down and dropped the phone in my bed. I could hear him talking on the other end but my whole body had numbed and I felt like I was drained of all my energy. I couldn’t move. I know I need to go there now but I can’t make myself move. A little while later, my mom came into my room. “Randy called, I’m so sorry Cassie.” She sat beside my bed and hugged me.

Chapter: Pain
The next few weeks was excruciating for everyone. Raiden was withering away faster than we had expected. It seems that he’s not even fighting anymore. Most of the time he’s not even conscious and when he is, it feels like he’s not even there. Everyday, even in school, I dread getting that call. I would jump everytime I hear my phone make a sound. I barely sleep too. I’m grateful to have Mark and Michelle by my side though because they make sure that I’m still a functioning human being. I think they will even spoon feed me if needed.

Chapter: Pick Me Up
I stepped onto the lawn and spied the Patterson’s black towncar by the curb. I hurried over and I was surprised to see Raiden inside when I opened the door. “Raiden! You came!” I said as I hugged him and kissed him. It’s been a while since he went out except to go to the doctor or the hospital.“How was your first day?” He asked.

Chapter: Senior Year
The next day was the first day of school and I can’t believe that I have been here for a year now. Last year seems like ancient history for me because a lot has happened since. Now, a year later, I have to drag myself to school again. I dread going because I know people will be asking about Raiden. There are a few who might be sensitive to these things but most kids I know won’t care as long as they get the 411 on what’s going on in someone else’s life. I feel that they like it when they hear that someone’s life is more miserable than theirs. I told Catherine I will drop by today after school to return the keys. She won’t have it, of course but I

Chapter: Meltdown?
I didn’t want to ask Mark about the Heather break up issue and I was waiting for him to open up but it seems like he won’t. He hasn’t texted me since my birthday. The following week, Raiden came back but he looks weaker and way worse than before. I guess the trial did nothing for him, another fail for us and I am losing h
