Paintings talk to people differently each time. Some reach out to them. Some are destined for them. Savannah is mourning the death of her mother when she finds out that the man that's been taking care of them was actually her father. The museum is famous for its big collection of unfinished painting, which later Savannah found out the reason for it. The Malekeeths are all destined for something, and they could have told her sooner that she'll be dragged inside one of the unfinished painting and wake up suddenly in the past.
