A different shoe size
Vince, an apt young doctor lives with his young sister, and grandmother, who is constantly urging him to find himself a woman in his life. He has a small circle of friends, including Zack and Tanya (medical doctors), and Harry, an affluent gentleman. His character is greatly moulded by his associations.
His life takes a down turn as he experiences a life changing event. He is sued for a case of patient mismanagement which results in the loss of his practicing license, and he is also fined heftily. He sells his lovey house and relocates to the city outskirts where he and his small family has to begin life all over, and with little to start with. He was steeped into the practice of medicine, but now he learns a new trade, running between shelves and tables at a flower and veggie shop, and a restaurant. He accepts his new station in life and, over time, grows to appreciate it.

Chapter: Chapter 19. In the defendant’s boxDays rolled on with the tides of normalcy. Nothing bearing a hue of disaffection. Zack and Tanya were back too. Our little boardroom as we called it was filled to capacity once again. Though now a couple, they still owed me undivided attention, a pledge I made them take prior to their marriage. Yet, as one may have it, I had made them take oath at a time when their mental statuses were compromised. A love spurt, I had come to learn is a deviation from norma

Chapter: Chapter 18. The unlawful demiseThe revving of the engine stopped. There was a serene silence. I had made an early morning arrival at the hospital. There were dotted a few other vehicles in the parking lot, a telling of a night spent on the ward for many a physician or nurse. Normally my arrival would not precede that of Zack. He was a cautious time-keeper. He would often wittily say, ‘a respect for life runs parallel to a respect for time’. Medical practice

Chapter: Chapter 16. Home Again“Ding dong. Ding dong!” the bell rung, a more pleasant one in stark contrast to the cock. “Zila, the doorbell is ringing, can you check who's there? Your old lady may take an hour to get to the door,” Gran called out.“I got it, I got it. I’m already there. Don’t worry Zila,” I shouted while I rushed to the door.

Chapter: Chapter 15. A return to the parch of havenWe soon left Seventh Heaven. The city lights beamed in a distance like a lighthouse that was a savour of life to them that braved the high seas. Yet, unlike the lighthouse, the city had more perils in comparison, a life we had become accustomed to. Amenities here were many, but so were the annoyances. Being stuck in traffic was a daily ire. The city perhaps was a place of great contrasts. Pomp and mendicancy polka-dotted the bends. The affluent and pauper traversed the same streets, one on twos for a lifetime and the other on wheels, treading the lanes was a planned undertaking if not a pursuit for a leaner body. The machinations that were constantly filling the lots were promising of better days, less work, and more time on our hands, yet a paradox we lived. We were slowly becoming subservient to the works of our hands, our own inventions, a servitude not anticipate

Chapter: Chapter 14. A little adrenaline rush“Anyone for a little rafting today? You wouldn’t want to leave without the experience, now would you?” George called out just after the morning bells rung, the cock bell. The cock was so annoying you would want to see it on the menu for the next meal so it would go into a blissful silence. Yet one could only ‘cock a deaf 'un’, pretend you didn't hear a thing, perhaps a simple couthie serenade. I got out of bed while sleep still beckoned me, but I had to pay a deaf ear. I swivelled the blinds and what a pleasure to behold, the sun-kissed view from an upper room window. Should one need a little time to cloister up, I would recommend it be done from this view. The rays of the rising sun, pierced through the room at angles varied, creating a Montage of light. Picture perfect. The shimmering light would be seen on every twig and flower in blo
