Chapter: Chapter 3: Eat It
"Hey, Jo. It's Diane." "Diane? Oh my God! Where have you been? I was worried sick." I answered, giving a sigh of relief. I felt like a heavy burden had been lifted off me and for the first time since last night, I felt like I could breathe. "Yeah, about that," She started. "I'm sorry, Jolene. I didn't want to do it but the guys insisted.""What are you talking about?" My eyebrows pulled together in confusion. What was she trying to say? "It was a prank, Jo. Nothing happened to me. I'm fine.""What? A prank?" I scoffed in disbelief. She took a while to reply. "I'm sorry. I told them it wasn't funny.""Did Alex know about this? Was he a part of this?" I asked, frowning. I was started to get really annoyed. This entire thing had been a prank? What kind of person played such a sick pr

Chapter: Chapter 2: Answer It
"Where have you been?" Laura asked as I walked into the house. She followed behind me as I lazily dragged my feet in the direction of my room. I was exhausted and all I wanted was to fall asleep and get a couple hours of rest but my mom wasn't going to let that happen."Out." I said simply and she turned me around to face her."What do you mean 'out'? Is that how you answer your mother?" She yelled and I clenched my jaw, already feeling very irritated. Why couldn't she just leave me alone like she had done for the past twenty years?"I went out, mother.""Where did you go? Did you spend the night with that boy? I told you that he's bad news. He will ruin your life. Why don't you listen?""I'm tired. Can I please be excused?" I said instead, trying to refrain from saying something I shouldn't have. I didn't necessarily like her but she was still my mother. Plus, not

Chapter: Chapter 1: Doubt It
Seated on Alex's king sized bed, I looked through Diane's phone, searching for clues of what might have happened to her. I had observed Alex all the way back to his apartment and it was obvious he was uneasy. He had been tapping on the steering wheel the entire ride back and his lips had been pulled downward in a frown. I suspected that he had lied to me about Diane calling him but I wasn't completely sure that he was. What reason did he have to lie about talking with her?I searched through Diane's text messages and there was nothing out of the ordinary. Next, I searched through her call logs. Michael had called her seven times before and after she had called me. Why would he have called her if she was at home with him? I scratched my head, trying to figure out exactly what any of this meant. Could Alex have really lied to me? Did he know what had happened to Diane? Was that why she insisted I didn't tell him where she was?

Chapter: Prologue
"I know you're in here, Jolene." The feminine voice called into the room. The sounds of heels tapping against the marble floor echoed round the almost empty room, causing my heart to beat even faster. I was tucked away in the wardrobe but for a five foot nine inches tall person like myself, it was much too small to sit in comfort. My legs were already cramping and my neck hurt from tilting it forwards for too long. I just needed to hold out for a while longer until I was in the clear to make a run for the exit. I had to get out of here. The sounds seized and everywhere became silent, save for the upbeat rhythm of my heart. I tried to listen for any sounds indicating where she was but I couldn't hear anything. I hugged my knees tightly, expecting the doors to be pulled open at any moment. It was game over for me now. After a few seconds of unbearable silence, I heard the sounds of footsteps departing. She
