Forgiven

Forgiven

Following a traumatic experience, Lesly finds herself mysteriously contacted through email by a dark informant who promises to help her. Years later she meets a prosecutor whose mannerism reminds her of that informant. They both seem to know a lot about her, and more importantly, they both know about the incident that happened five years ago. Could the two be one and the same? Lesly Collins is a lawyer struggling to hide a very traumatic past behind a veneer of seriousness. Her no-nonsense attitude combined with her temper, inflexibility and sarcasm had turned her into something of a villain. One day she is approached with a proposition for a joint effort by none other than the prosecutor Alec Reid. To the common majority, Alec is the typical gentleman. He is kind, well-mannered and possibly one of the select few who are still in possession of a moral compass. What most people do not know, however, is that Alec is not who he claims to be.

Chapter: Chapter 5: The Proposal
The moment the elevator doors opened, Lesly was immediately greeted by Stacey who true to her reputation as a nervous-wreck was pacing right in front of the elevator. It seemed that leaving the young woman to sort through cases on her own for a couple of hours was a bit too much too soon. Lesly smiled and tried to pretend to have not noticed the glare Stacy was giving her as she walked out of the elevator.“Morning Stacey,” Lesly greeted casually as she walked past the nervous-wreck towards

Chapter: Chapter 4: Work Problems
It was a silent ride back from the therapist’s office to her office. Michaela offered to drive Lesly there. She did not ask about how the appointment went, but Lesley could feel Michaela’s glances towards her. She wanted to ask obviously, but did not know how to broach the subject. In an effort to discourage her friend from asking, Lesly fished out her phone from her purse and started checking the emails and texts she received while she was in the therapy session. Her phone did not disappoint. There was a sufficient number of emails and texts that would surely keep her busy throughout the entire ride. Minuets passed in silence, and Lesly soon found herself totally immersed in her new task. Her momentary relief was short-lived for Michaela finally decide

Chapter: Chapter 3: The Nightmare
Blinding day light. That was how the nightmare usually began. Rays of sunshine breaking through the windows of the majestic secluded house that would become her prison for the next four days were her earliest memory of the experience. It was strange in a way how every time she tried to dig deeper into her memory, she would reach the same beginning, a ray of sunshine. That was the first thing that she saw when she woke up in that secluded house. She did not know how she ended up there. She had no recollection of what happened the night before.

Chapter: Chapter 2: The Dark Corridors of Memory
She could still remember the scene vividly. The burning building, the screaming, the sirens, the hoards scattering out of the building like ants. They were all warning signs blatantly telling her not to go in, but she went in anyways. She had to go in. Anyone in her place would have done so. Every human being with an ounce of humanity would have gone in. She did nothing wrong. That was what she kept telling herself for five years. She did nothing wrong. She imagined the scene so many times in her head, and every time, she would not be able to think of a reason that would have kept her or anyone from going in. The anonymous tip told her that a group of people were trapped in the basement of a building for the purp

Chapter: Chapter 1: Therapy
It was an all too familiar experience, sitting there with nothing but the sound of deafening silence. How many times has it been now? Eight? Nine? Maybe less? Was it sensible to keep count? No, she promised herself she would not entertain such thoughts. She reminded herself that she was here to get better. Yes, that is precisely what Michaela told her. She needed to get better, but was that even possible? Is it possible for someone who had been through what she had gone through to get better? Michaela said she should not give up, that she had made some excellent progress, but her mind knew that Michaela had no idea that it was all an act, a false persona. People need to put an act sometimes to get by. Life demands it. Certain professions would not allow its occupants to survive without it. Her situation was not different.“Miss. Collins, are you okay? You haven’t said anything for a while now.&rdq
