The days flew by till it was almost time for the sisters to finish their exams. The junior west African examination council examinations known by its acronym waec had drained any form of fun activities out of Obi and Chioma's lives. They mostly studied and went through past questions from the previous years.One of the village festivals was coming up popularly known as iri ji, a festival where yam was roasted and eaten by the villagers and other activities were carried out to entertain the villagers like wrestling, acting and drama.
The month went by speedily till it was time for Obi and Chioma to write their entrance exams to senior secondary school. The last three months had been filled with a routine that Obi grew quite accustomed to. The sleepovers at her house increased but it was only Chioma who was allowed to. The incident that happened the night when Obiefune had kissed Obi made her more repulsed by his person and she did her best to steer clear of his path.
The whole compound was almost quiet as a graveyard; only the occasional croaking of frogs distorted the stillness of the night. The hooting of an owl could be made out from afar and though the story that reached the children's ears should have engendered fear instead they all succumbed to the strange twist the old woman had created, as Mma portrayed the spirit to be friendly and compassionate.
