Chapter 1

1: Home sweet home

The bus latched forward to a sudden stop in the process emitting the dark smoke on its pipe, she was the first to jump out, her nose drinking to the almost eroded tarmac road, "God what happened to these men who promise us every five years to deliver good roads and everything their filthy glatonious minds and mouths can think of? Fuck you Mr politician"

She yells as she slings the small faded brown sling bag over her shoulder, the canvas straps go across her right shoulder deciding the two medium-size breast covered by a brown wrinkled linen shirt down to her left side.

She squint's to the side where she believes the road towards her village is, it's almost covered with grass and all sorts of weeds, she gives it a smirk. "You got to be kidding me, does everyone in our village use donkeys to the market?"

A pregnant woman steps out of the old bus and taps her on the shoulder, young girl would mind holding this basket for me?"

She turns around and annoyingly stares at her, "meanwhile what are you gonna do?, walk free while I labour behind you?"

"Not I just want to carry this little one here he can't walk far by himself," she says hauling the little one on her back then she flexibly bends her knees and points to her to pot the basket on her head.

This is a lot of language you are carrying Ma'am, I will help you to that point the you will look for someone to help you all the way home it's not good for your health, how old is the belly?" She asks gesturing with her left thumb on her protruding stomach.

"Almost nine months, " she replies timidly walking ahead of her

"And why would you travel with such a term pregnancy?"

"I am going at my mothers place to give birth" she replies smiling, Fiona frowns at her angrily

"Is your mothers place a maternity home?" She asks arrogantly and lowers the basket down, " you left good equipped hospitals at the city only to travel all this far to have your baby at the village, God what became of you people?"

"Don't judge that's how it goes, anyway thank you for helping you are a good girl then how people take you for"

"I have enough, say hi to your people and remember there is a public hospital near your home" Fiona shouts skipping the ditch at the small shop and rushes to the road, she is eager to be home suddenly she stops and yells

"Uncle J, Uncle J wait it's me" the man crossing the road halts midway the road interfering with the evening traffic and puts his hand up while turning to retrace his footsteps back to he is smiling.

"You are getting old uncle, look at your bald head, how is Tom?" She asks still standing far from him,

"He is a dog Fi, you need to check your manner," Uncle J says and shakes Fiona's hand.

"No, my manners are perfect, unless someone died, oooh, did granny Shemele die?" She asks feigning surprise

"No, she didn't, she has been asking for you, why don't you pass by and check up on her?"

"I will, but I have to see my old man, his youngest beautiful son is home," she says tapping her chest in a boastful manner.

"Fi, I hate to remind you, you are a woman, and now that you are home you should dress like a woman and act like one" her uncle replies is tastefully

"Here we go, blah-blah, tell that to your kid's uncle anyway it was a pleasure to see you, tell Juma and Mwita we have a tournament tomorrow I cat wait to beat their lazy asses, bye.

Uncle J stares as Fiona heils as she motions for a motorbike, it's the only way she is gonna make it home before dark, the Boda Bodas stares at her without acknowledging her.

Damn it, now they are afraid of, I shouldn't have tackled one of them down, as she walks towards them a rambling sounds pierce the air like an old posho mill as a Ducati motorcycle passes them, the rider is wearing a blue helmet she can't see him

"Wow! That is a piece of work!" She smirks as one young-looking Boda rider stops at her feet, "three hundred to your home" he says as the rest of the Boda riders laughs.

"Sure, I will give you five, I am drive, move your ass, " Fiona says pushing him roughly back

"Be steady, and please one hundred goes if you touch me, two hundred goes if you scream" she yells igniting the motorbike and exits the side road while accelerating into the forest, her village, her home.
