Chapter 42 New Love

Author: A Sleeve Full Of Cloud
“Eh, if I remember correctly, you were still crying your heart out and making repeated suicide attempts only half a month ago? How could you have found a new love in such a short amount of time?”

Sarah froze in the middle of stuffing her mouth with popcorn and blinked back blankly at the latter. “New love?”

A mischievous smile spread across Whitney’s face as she leaned in toward her friend. “Just admit it. That man from the clubhouse the other day? Is there something going on between you two?”

“What nonsense are you talking about?” Sarah felt somewhat diffident as she shoved the tub of popcorn into Whitney’s arms.

The latter threw a sideways glance at her friend and said nonchalantly, “Why are you blushing then?”

Sarah grabbed Whitney’s purse immediately to retrieve the compact mirror.

Indeed, a suspicious pink blush touched her cheeks just as Whitney had mentioned.

Whitney patted her on the shoulder like an experienced wise person. “Sarah, stop deceiving yourself. I reckon you’ve taken interest in that man. It’s written all over your face. But I agree with you, that man is pretty great…”

Sarah brushed off the other person’s arm from her shoulder and averted her gaze. “No way I’m interested in him. That indifferent, old man forbids me from doing anything fun. Not only that but he also kicked me out of the house when he got upset in the end. Tell me, which quality of him is likable?”

Whitney shrugged nonchalantly at her friend’s exaggerated reaction, declining to comment.

A brief moment later, Maddy called to see if Sarah would like to hang out with him and his friends.

She scanned through the showing times for the upcoming films quickly. In a matter of seconds, she rose from the couch in the waiting area and headed for Mingdu International Clubhouse along with Whitney.

……

Unquestionably, the arrival of Sarah and Whitney had astonished Maddy’s disreputable company.

Not to mention Sarah’s out-of-the-world beauty, Whitney, who was dressed in the sexy-looking fur coat, also attracted loads of attention.

Maddy was smug over his decision to invite the girls. He was delighted to earn some face in front of his friends.

Whitney, the natural socialite, mingled with Maddy’s friends almost effortlessly. Her beautiful and slender fingers flew to her mouth as she looked at the man in amazement. “What a coincidence! I’ve also visited Norway not long ago, it's a great place...”

Sarah appeared much quieter in comparison.

She was sitting in the corner alone, her long hair covering almost half of her face. Her brain was teeming with a whole tangle of thoughts that she could barely sort out.

Maddy approached the girl and positioned himself right next to her. He was holding a beer in hand as he pointed at Whitney who was enjoying the company of his friends. “Your friend’s doing well over there. She’s completely taken your limelight within a few minutes. Come on now, lift your chin high for me. You’re such a beautiful girl but what’s gone wrong?”

Sarah dodged his arm that came forward to hold her chin. “Stop it, Maddy. I’m not in the mood.”

He frowned and put the beer away before enquiring in concern. “What’s wrong? Is Rachel pestering you again?”

She shook her head. “No.”

“Henry then?” Maddy asked again.

“It’s not him as well… Sigh, just stop guessing.” Sarah appeared visibly troubled.

Maddy was sitting on the couch on the side. Suddenly, Whitney’s giggles filled the air. She draped one arm around one of the men’s shoulders as she flirted.

Sarah extended her arm to nudge Maddy by the arm. He retrieved his gaze and shifted his attention back to the former.

“Maddy, if all you can think of all day is one particular person or one particular incident, does that mean that you’re interested in him?”

“The f*ck! You can’t be serious?!” His unexpected swearing grabbed the men’s attention.

Sarah threw a deadly glare at him. “Don’t make a fuss out of nothing, I’m just making an analogy…”

The man grabbed her by the arm immediately. His face turned pale with rage but he appeared extremely solemn. “Miss Grove, you’ve only returned for a few days. Tell me honestly, who’s that man?”

She suddenly felt diffident upon being pressured by Maddy. She pointed toward Whitney casually and whispered, “I’m talking about Whitney. Why are you getting all worked up?”

Maddy finally heaved a sigh of relief.

Now that the man had lowered his guard, Sarah seized the opportunity to leave the private room by claiming she needed to use the washroom.

……

The corridor that was filled with light music appeared much quieter in comparison to the loud music in the private room.

Sarah took her sweet time in the washroom, splashing cold water onto her face to cool herself down.

A silhouette in front grabbed her attention as soon as she stepped out of the washroom.

The properly made up Jaclyn Sue was standing in front of the entrance of a private room nearby. She was applying a bright red lipstick by looking into the compact mirror.

The woman was putting away the lipstick as a man who suddenly entered Sarah’s sight made her heart skip a beat.

Jon was looking exceptionally handsome today. He was dressed in a gray metallic suit and a dark blue shirt, complemented with a silver-gray necktie. The outfit was somewhat too formal for a place like this.

He smiled toward Jaclyn and opened the door for her like a proper gentleman before trailing after her into the private room.

Sarah could not help but feel disgusted upon witnessing the way Jon smiled at Jaclyn.

He could smile so naturally toward Jaclyn but on the other hand, he had always shown indifference toward her. Sarah wondered how much hatred he had for her.

Annoyed, she turned around and bumped into a tall woman.

She stepped on the tall woman’s foot by accident. “Are you blind?” The latter let out a shriek.

Sarah quickly withdrew her foot and supported herself by holding onto the wall nearby. She was just about to apologize but the words failed to escape her mouth as soon as she raised her head.

The other woman laughed almost immediately when their eyes met. “Hah, I was wondering who it was. Don’t we have here the little girl of the Grove family? Haven’t you gone abroad? Why are you back again?”

The woman who was currently speaking was named Taylor Kayne. She was a friend of Jaclyn from the university.

Taylor was present too, when Sarah and Jaclyn had gotten into a massive fight.

Displeasure was written all over Sarah’s face. She did not want to waste her time with the other woman thus she walked past her straight away.

Taylor grabbed her by the wrist forcefully. Sarah, who was feeble in strength, was yanked backward by the stronger woman almost effortlessly.

Sarah had only left the private room to use the washroom thus she did not put on her overcoat. One of the sleeves of her thin, wide-neck knitted top fell over her shoulder after being yanked by Taylor, revealing the strap of her bra.

“What do you want?” Sarah lifted her head to glare at the other woman angrily.

She did not wish to get in a tangle with the other woman. She had never feared anyone when it came to fighting but this was not the right place.

I’m going to get it now!”The old man rose from the couch. “Why don’t you get Aunt Diane to retrieve it for you? It’s cold outside. Must you do it right now?”The girl pushed the door wide open, ignoring her grandpa’s concern.…… To say that Shadwin Residence was massive was an understatement. Two days before Chinese New Year, Jaclyn was shouting angrily at her agent in the corridor of Central Hospital.“Are you being serious? Didn’t you tell me that you’re acquainted with the mid-level leader of that website? Why haven’t you sorted this out?! How could they take the liberty to block my Weibo account? I’m a public figure and they’ve just violated my privacy. That’s illegal!”Vivian, the agent, appeared in a dilemma. She endured the reproach before trying to advise the other woman, “Elder Sister Jaclyn, please try to calm down. I’ve told my friend about this but he mentioned that it’s really out of his control. Although we live in a world of technology, you have thousands upon thousands of fans thus this might be inappropriate…”Jaclyn’s facial features twisted but she stood her ground. “What do you mean that it’s inappropriate?
