"Nora ..."

She didn't want to look him in the eye, so she looked for a neutral point to hold onto, but when she made out the personalized cufflinks that he gave her hanging from the sleeves of her shirt, she went back to looking for eye contact, full of pain.

"Why are you wearing them?"

"You gave them to me, remember?"

"Yes, but I don't want to see them."

"Well, I'm sorry, but I like them and I'm going to keep wearing them."

Nora put her hands to her head and turned around several times.

"Don't think this is going to be arranged like this, so easily." He clenched his fists. Besides, you don't even want it to be fixed.

Dorian's eyes widened.

"How can you say such stupid things?"

"Because I know you don't want it." It's not what you want, I know.

-How…?

"How do I know?" -finished-. You better not ask me that. You will know in due course.

The tense discussion momentarily ceased to rage as the cell phone Dorian wore strapped to his belt came to life, leaving them speechless.

-You are not going to answer? Nora asked, furious.

-Not.

-Why?

"Because I'm talking to you."

"And since when do you care?" You ignore me continuously. This doesn't change anything, so for me, you can answer.

Dorian hesitated for a second, but didn't.

-Did not say-. I am not taking it.

-Do you want me to do it? He blurted out without thinking.

-Not.

She had him right where she wanted him.

"Do you have something to hide?"

-Of course not.

"Then take it."

-I have said no.

Nora lost what little patience she had left and lunged for the cell phone, but Dorian stepped back and picked up the small object, pressing the key and turning on the speaker.

"Hi, Ray," she said coldly. What do you want?

Nora gasped. For a second he had believed it could be her, but she was not stupid enough to dare to call him; Of course, he didn't consider her foolish enough to be able to walk with a married man down the street, and yet she had already done it.

The conversation was brief, but long enough for Dorian's face to express satisfaction; a feeling Nora had stopped tolerating.

"Is there anything else you want to make sure of?" He asked hoarsely, handing her his cell phone. You can watch all you want. Calls, messages…. I have nothing to hide.

He would have drowned him with his bare hands. At that moment he wished he had been able to take photos of the day before, immortalizing in an image what managed to destabilize it. Thus he could not continue with his role as a reasonable and exemplary man. Without proof, he had nothing and he was winning, leaving her like a maddened madman, a jealous woman of even a simple shadow.

"I guess I'll have to take your word for it for now," he managed to say. Although at this point it does not have much value.

"That's your opinion…

" " Of course it is, and I'm not going to change it."

Dorian looked at the watch on his wrist; it was his way of saying he had to go now. He changed the register and was no longer on the defensive. He was the worried husband again.

"I'll be back for dinner ...

" " Yes, I know you'll be back late, I know you're always terribly busy; You don't have to remind me every day, ”Nora snapped. I am aware that now you spend more time outside the home than inside it. I just hope it's at least worth it.

He let out a sigh and moved closer to her, trying to avoid any poisonous words she might throw at him. He wanted to kiss her on the forehead, but Nora wouldn't let him. She was away in a second and looked away, her arms crossed over her chest and her tears practically on the verge of spilling.

"I hope you have a good day, Nora."

She saw him walk away slowly, and despite wanting to tell her the truth, despite wanting to immediately end all this farce of which he was also being an accomplice in some incomprehensible way, love blinded his intentions to remain unperturbed.

"Wait," she whispered, knowing she couldn't let him go like this. She walked over to him and stood on tiptoe to kiss him. Goodbye. He gave her a short but intense kiss. A direct way to say goodbye, to say goodbye to those lips that surely he would never touch again. Without knowing it, he had shared them with Angy, but from that moment on it would be his sister who would have the privilege of staying with them.

The front door closed behind him and she was left alone, imaginatively suspended in her paper world, awash in the delusional amount of tears she no longer even bothered to avoid. She had been left alone, abandoned, cut off from everything she knew… She dropped to the ground and hid her face in her hands. She felt the metal on her ring finger and, unleashing her anger, she took off her engagement ring and wedding band and threw them far away. Then she kept crying until she ran out of strength, to the point that it was difficult for her to breathe. He staggered to his feet, one thought in his head: fill his veins with alcohol. He walked in the direction of the kitchen, but when he was about to leave the living room, his mind sounded the alarm so that he would fix his gaze on an element that was damaging to the eye. He positioned himself in front of the solid wood bookcase where all those photos he borrowed from his parents' house were placed. He would have been able to destroy each one of them, but his fury focused on only one, the one that provoked the most hatred.

The photo behind the silver frame was not the same. It could not be viewed in the same way. Now it represented a high percentage of someone who didn't want to remember. Picking up the frame, she dug her nails into the glass, pressing down on the image, going mad to see Angy's green eyes turned to paper, staring at her, mocking her. He couldn't take it anymore. He raised his arm and, with all the force of which he was capable, threw the photograph to the ground, shattering the glass, tiny glistening fragments that flew in all directions.
