Synopsis

Jade Redfern never did manage to make Zephaniah Owens warm up to her even after three years. Once she saw through the truth of all the unendurable shame she experienced, she decided to give up and handed over the divorce papers. “Since you don’t love me, file for a divorce.”She did not expect that she would have another life growing in her after the divorce. When her ex-husband saw her emptying her stomach, he stormed over and trapped her in the washroom.“Whose is it?”“It’s less than a month. Don’t worry, it’s definitely not yours, Mister Owens.” Jade Redfern smiled faintly.

Chapter 1 Why Did He Come Back Suddenly?

She blinked, and she wanted to get rid of the sting in her eyes. The number of messages he sent to her in just half a day was more than the total number of messages that she received from him over the past four years.

As she scrolled through them carefully, she suddenly received a call. The caller ID was just one word—Zeph. She had amended the remark for him not long ago.

Martin stared at the caller ID from her side, and he subconsciously clenched his fists.

Jade’s finger trembled at the top of the screen, and she nearly answered it by reflex.

Before Zephaniah departed, he habitually called her number. But he did not expect the call to be connected, and he much less expected that it would be answered. His heart subconsciously calmed down a little.

“Jadey?” His voice was hoarse, and it sounded exhausted and even a little tentative.

Jade opened her mouth, but she did not say a single word. But Zephaniah could sense that it was her.

“Where are you?” he asked as his expression turned dark. “I’ll go and bring you back.”

Gemarya started to locate her the moment the call was connected. After it was successful, he made a hand gesture to Zephaniah.

“There’s no need for that. I’ve told my parents that I just went out to get some fresh air.” She then frowned slightly. “You also need to think carefully whether there is any need for us to continue coming into contact with each other.”

Zephaniah almost lost his rationality. He had been looking for her so hard these days, but she just casually said she went out for some fresh air?

“Of course we should…” His smile did not reach his eyes, and his tone was extremely cold. But he still acted relaxed. “Jade, no matter what you think about me, you can’t change the fact that we have children together. You can never get rid of me, no matter where you hide.” He then sneered and continued saying, “As for Martin, when we meet again, I will thank him for looking after you these few days.”

Jade’s face turned pale when she listened to the front portion of his words, and her face became dark later. How could she not understand his threat? “What do you want to do? Haven’t you done enough?”

Zephaniah made a gesture to Gemarya before he got up and made preparations to go out. But he did not hang up. “Jade, you’re already five months pregnant. Can you even consider yourself responsible to the children with what you’re doing? What can’t we solve in person? Why must you throw a childish tantrum?”

She was throwing a childish tantrum? Suddenly, she laughed out of anger, and she mocked him, “Yes, I can only run away from home, something only a loser would do. Unlike you, when you’re not happy, you don’t have to hold it in. You can just attack that person.”

Jade suddenly felt a little short of breath because of how long she had been laying down. But it was highly likely that she lost her breath because she got mad at this man. She pushed herself up with her left hand because she wanted to get up. When Martin saw that she was going through a lot of inconveniences, he immediately reached out to help her. He showed his concern and said, “Your body is heavy, be careful.”

Zephaniah immediately heard the male voice on the other side, and he pursed his lips tighter. But he knew that she was still angry, so he said softly, “Pass your phone to Martin, I want to talk to him.”

Jade was puzzled, and she blinked slightly. She suddenly registered something, so she explained, “I was the one who asked him to bring me here, so it has nothing to do with him. You can just talk to me.”

Martin supported her with his hands. When he saw her dark face, he met her gaze, blinked, smiled, and comforted her. “Does he want to talk to me? Pass the phone to me.”

Jade’s eyelids twitched. In just the blink of an eye, he gently extracted the phone from her hands. She could not help but become scared that Zephaniah would say something outrageous.

Martin continued staying, and he greeted Zephaniah cheerfully. “Mister Owens.” His eyes were bright and clear, and he spoke frankly, “Miss Redfern is a very good condition now. She… probably stayed too long at home, so she wanted to come out and get some fresh air. I’m taking care of her now, nothing will happen.”

Zephaniah came out of his personal elevator. Gilberto had already parked his car at the entrance of the building, and he saw his boss’s dark face from afar.

“Martin, I underestimated you. You managed to take her away undetected from right under my nose, and I couldn’t find her even after three days. I need to say that we have to get to know each other again.” Zephaniah did not speak loudly, but his voice was filled with animosity. His ghastly and cold tone could be heard clearly even through the phone.

Martin was stunned for a moment before he frowned and said, “Mister Owens, you might have misunderstood me. Miss Redfern was not in a good mood, and coincidentally, at that time, I knew that the environment here was quite good. So, I brought her here. I don’t have other intentions.” He glanced at Jade. “When she feels better, I’ll bring her back immediately.”

When Jade heard Martin’s reply, she knew what Zephaniah had said. He was used to thinking about people in a bad light.

“It’s not your turn to get involved with Jade, and I have the final say as to whether you have any other intentions. If you really don’t have one, tell me your address now.” Zephaniah was too lazy to continue wasting his breath, but he was scared that Jade would hide again after knowing that he knew where she was. So, he could only act as if he did not know.

Martin felt troubled, and he looked at Jade in the eyes. “I’ll let Miss Redfern decide…”

Jade knew what he wanted to say, but she was still seething in anger. Her heart had ached for him when he made so many calls to her, but because of just a few words from him, all that heartache was gone because of her anger. She shook her head slightly.

“I’m sorry, Miss Redfern is not willing to meet you yet,” Martin said seriously.

Zephaniah hung up immediately without answering. He threw the phone, and it hit the insulated glass, but it bounced back instantly. Gilberto was shocked by the noise suddenly, and his hands trembled.

“How long will we need before we reach?” Zephaniah asked Gemarya with a dark look on his face.

Gemarya was stunned for a while before he immediately sat up straight and answered, “One and a half hour at the fastest speed.”

“We need to get there faster. Reach there before the sky gets dark.”

Gilberto became serious. He held the steering wheel tightly, and he stepped down further on the accelerator.

Martin passed the phone to Jade before he thought for a while. He sat across her, put his arms on his knees, and said softly, “He should be here tonight.”

Jade’s hand—the one holding the phone—moved slightly. She pursed her lips and slowly closed her eyes. “Yes.” She sighed. “Let’s pack and leave.”

Martin’s bright eyes turned a little dark. He got up and went to the garden behind them. At the moment he turned around, a cunning light shone in his eyes, and he stopped. “I’ll go get you some water. The weather is too dry, you can easily get dehydrated after staying too long over here.”

Jade was currently absent-minded. She did not hear what he said clearly, and she subconsciously nodded.

She narrowed her eyes and felt dazed. When Martin came out again, she was almost asleep.

“Miss Redfern, drink some water before you sleep.” He touched her arm.

“Put it there first. I’ll drink it later.” She forced herself to open her eyes, and she said lazily, “Oh yes, I have some money in the bag. Go get some and give to the old man. He is raising two children, so it’s not easy for him to plant fruits and earn money.”
