  • Me #1   Epilogue

What exactly did her mother know? It was Christmas eve and her mother had forbade her from leaving the house. They were to spend the day as a Family, Christmas was about Family. Her mother believed it was best to spend their Christmas night with her multiple cousins and other relatives. She didn't believe that though. To her, Christmas was about fun, outings and lots of food. That was why she'd proceeded to convince her father into approving on her outing. She hadn't mentioned that she would be the only girl amongst the group or that she would be home late. All that mattered was that her father had said yes, so she left. Dressed in her skinniest black jeans and a peplon top, Maureen grabbed her new multicolored sneakers and put her hair into a pony tail, letting a couple braids fall out in the front at both edges. She looked cute and she knew it. When she arrived in front of the building they'd all

I placed my hand onto the metal handle and sighed, I needed to do this. The more I hid things from her, the heavier my heart got. She didn't deserve this, not at all. I pushed down the handle and pushed open the door, my eyes searching the room, only to fall on the two girls who seemed to be embracing each other while laying on the floor. I furrowed my brows in confusion and almost laughed as they both scrambled onto the bed. I recognized one of the girls as my disheveled daughter and sighed for the umpteenth time today, this girl just kept surprising me. "Daddy? Do you need something?" My daughter managed to sputter out awkwardly while her cousin apparently found a sudden interest in the flower print note book beside her. If not for the love I had toward them both, I would have cut the awkward tension with a laugh. But teasing the children was my sole purpose as a parent so I kept my face neutral.

It was my idea to watch a movie. It was also my idea to sit inbetween Kolupo and Emeka, but it was not my idea to have this nervous feeling welcome itself onto me. That feeling of something being wrong or when something was missing or I just couldn't put my finger on it. Until my eyes fell on Kolupo giggling like Spongebob with Daniel whispering into her ears. This movie wasn't a romantic comedy, this was action, full on action, there wasn't any reason to blush like Kolupo was doing currently. They hadn't told any jokes so far, this was a fight scene. I found my fists clenching and my nose flaring ever so slightly. That was the feeling. My body couldn't rest until I'd figured out Daniel's intentions, that's why I couldn't enjoy the movie that I'd convinced everyone else to watch. Dumb ass Daniel and his stupid Face.Forcing my eyes back towards the giant screen before me, I was lucky enough to get lost in the movie. B

I didn't believe in coincidence. To me, everything that happens must have been calculated and worked out by Baba God above. Yes I was a Christian. Most times, people mistook me for some atheist idiot who had no morals but shocker, I wasn't. It wasn't a coincidence that she had stumbled into my life again. I had changed schools multiple times but how could it be that she managed to be in the exact same one my dad had promised would be a permanent placement till university. This had the Lord's doing written all over it, I was sure. "What are you thinking about now?" Aliyu was quick to knock my blue face cap off my head, throwing a cocky smile my way, like it was a huge achievement. "Is it your business?" I shot at him, roughly forcing the cap back onto my head. I grabbed my phone off the cream coloured circular table and checked the time. The cafe in the mall right beside the cinema was pretty rowdy, as it was Christma

"I have decided that you no longer need to follow that bus again.""Why?""Are you asking me why?""No sir. Sorry sir."I lowered my eyes to my half empty plate of fried rice that I had prepared for us this evening. Dad and I were currently on the dinning table having dinner together. This had become a daily thing, ever since my mother left. Dad had been looking for ways to connect with me for some reason I wasn't still sure of.But it wasn't that I didn't like spending time with my dad. I did. It was just weird. Before, I'd eat in my room while he watched TV in the living room with his own food. Mum would have finished off her share first, even before the rest of us started eating and then she'd be in her room, working on the next work project. That's how things had always been. But now, Dad was trying to change it up. It wasn't all too surprising, I had expec

Have you ever had that feeling of triumph, when your hard work isn't in vain and you end up reaping what you've sown, yeah? Well, that was what I'd been feeling over the past few weeks. You see, after the little incident with Maureen. More people were now aware of who I was. That's right, I was noticed now. A million different views on the incident were being shared almost every day for a whole week. Some people said I was the one who jumped her, some people said we were both fighting over Daniel, worse ones were that we were lesbians and I had finally cheated on her. A whole lot of nonsensical theories that were far from the truth. My friends, well ex friends still weren't talking to me. Instead after school or during break or in rare occasions where we had few periods together, I now hung out with Daniel, Ebuka, Emeka, Mercy, Stephanie and Aliyu, sometimes Oreva joined in. Honestly, they were real
