LOGINThe little girl looked at her shyly, tears clinging to her long, dark eyelashes. “Secret cookies? What do they taste like? ”She asked hesitantly, wavering between suspicion and curiosity.
"Hm, I have no idea, that's why they're so secret," Faith replied with mock perplexity. “I'd have to try again. - Would you like to help me with that? Something tells me you're a really great secret cookie taster. "
After a long hesitation, Emily finally nodded. "Okay."
Faith smiled satisfied, got up again and held out her hand to the little one. "Come on, let's go over to the kitchen and have a look."
Emily slipped her fingers trustingly into Faith's hand and followed her out of the room.
As Faith crossed the hallway with her, she felt the man's gaze boring into her back, and the hair on the back of her neck rose.
Seconds later, Emily was sitting at the kitchen table chewing, a plate of chocolate cookies in front of her.
“And?” Faith asked with a smile, “what do you think? What kind is it? ”She took a cookie too and took a bite. "I just can't tell."
“Chocolate,” Emily said happily.
"Hm - right, you might be right," laughed Faith.
She licked the sticky chocolate icing off her fingers with relish. Her gaze fell on the man who had stopped in the kitchen door and was watching her with a strange expression in his eyes. She stopped abruptly and a shiver ran down her spine. Hastily she turned around, opened the tap on the sink and washed her hands thoroughly while she considered what to do next.
She expected to meet her aunts. Instead, there was a strange man and a child in her parents' house whom she had never seen before. They were certainly not from St. Albury; Faith grew up here and knew almost everyone.
Before she could think twice, she heard the patter of footsteps in the hallway. She turned to see her mother's two sisters, Polly and Molly Graham, walk in.
The gray-haired, older women looked like one another, it was unmistakable that they were twin sisters. They beamed on their plump, rosy faces and fell one after the other around her neck.
"Faith, how nice that you're here, even if it's a sad occasion," said Molly, hugging her lovingly.
Faith's expression hardened. "It's okay," she said, glancing past Molly's shoulder in the direction of the man who had silently considered the whole scenario.
“Oh Faith,” Polly nodded quickly, “this is Dr. Lucian Clarke. - Dr. Clarke, our niece Faith Havering. "
"Dr. Clarke, ”Faith murmured, drawing a sense of foreboding through her. "What …?"
"And you must be Emily," Polly cut off immediately, and turned to the little girl. "It's nice that you're here, your dad has already told us a lot about you."
Faith's feeling that something was wrong only increased. She frowned, but could not say anything, because Emily now crossed her arms dismissively over her chest.
"He's not my dad," she pointed out accusingly, her large, light gray eyes swimming in tears again.
Christ, what's going on here? Faith shot through her head in exasperation.
She'd been in the car for almost seven hours, driving here from London to attend her father's funeral. Then she wanted to settle the estate, relax for a few days and think about how things should go with her life. Actually, she had planned to discuss everything with her aunts in peace.
Instead, she was now confronted with a man who looked like he had sprung from a cover of Men's Health and whose looks were thoroughly provocative. His little daughter - for she undoubtedly was - claimed he was not her father and seemed more than upset.
On top of that, Polly and Molly were obviously trying to hide something from her, and she knew it was somehow with this Dr. Clarke had to be busy.
"Why don't we have dinner first?" Suggested Molly cheerfully, taking a bowl of potato salad from the refrigerator. "We can discuss everything else later."
"That's a good idea," Polly agreed. She smiled kindly at Emily. "Do you want to help?"
The little one sniffed softly, but then nodded in agreement and crawled off the chair. While she was warming up a few sausages together with Polly, Faith watched with astonishment as Lucian Clarke went to the kitchen cupboard and took out plates with the utmost of course.
She found the fact that he set the table as a man less astonishing than the fact that he behaved as if he were at home here.
A touch of anger rose within her, but for the child's sake she refrained from commenting.
Shortly afterwards they were all sitting at the table and eating.
Polly and Molly took good care of Emily, while Faith poked sullenly at her plate. Again and again she felt Lucian Clarke's eyes on her and resolved to find out what was going on here immediately after the meal.
Disappointed, I go back to the car and then drive off all the things she told me, in the late evening I try again at his house, but again I have no success, because although the light is on in the house, nobody opens the door.Sadly, I look for a hotel for myself and Luca and sleep a little, then I decide to call the pilot and he actually agrees to bring me and Luca back to Kerry. So Luca and I are back on the plane the next lunchtime and have the long flight to Kerry ahead of us. Luca doesn't seem to mind any of this, he sleeps a lot and actually only calls in when he's hungry. But exactly every four hours ...On Saturday lunchtime I land back in Kerry and take a rental car. When I arrive at the yard, I'm amazed, they're making good progress. You can see a house again.Dec looks at me questioningly when I get out completely exhausted and poke Luca in my arms.“What are you doing here again?” He takes Luca from me. “Hello my littl
Never.“Maybe a little bit, my little one, but that you and a little baby can be here so quickly when your family needs you. Sweet, stupid people don't do that ... “he looks at me lovingly."Miss O'Fallon, you can go back to your dad tomorrow, he has to rest now." The nurse comes in and I bend over to my dad."Family is forever." I say quietly and he smiles.I'm going back to the waiting room and we're waiting to go to Dec.“You can now go to Mr. Declan O'Fallon…” she looks at us “He has 2nd to 4th degree burns on his chest and stomach area, he still has great difficulty breathing and we had to sew a number of cuts. If he gets through the night well, then it looks very good. ”A young doctor explains to us, and Sarah and I begin to cry.Once again Sarah and my mum go in and when they come back I walk into his hospital room a few moments later.I sit back in the chair and try to ignore all the
This is your rental car, first for two weeks, should you need it longer, then call Luca." He helps me load everything and I buckle Luca into the passenger seat. It's not even 24 hours since my mum called me when I drove into the yard. You have put out the fire and only the remains of the foundation walls of the large house and the stable are standing. I get out and take Luca in my arms. I get closer and start to cry, I feel like my life is here in ruins. I was born in that house, I hope. I took my first steps in that house, I spoke my first words in that house, I slept with Fin for the first time in that house and it is very likely that Luca was born in this house. Now all that's left of it is a large pile of rubble and a few the foundation walls.I hold him tight in my arms and look around looking for the animals.Buttercup ..."Miss, you mustn't get too close." A voice comes from behind me.I turn slowly and look at Logan's face. He's wear
"I think I have to go to the Beachresort Clinic, if I'm not mistaken, then my water has just burst." I look at him and feel the panic rise in me.So it wasn't planned like that ..."I'll drive it." He puts his arm around me and supports me."Your car ..." I start and look at the rather expensive car-"Alexa." He almost smiles "Please don't be silly." He helps me to sit down and I go through the first contraction. We need just under 20 minutes to the Beachresort Klinik and Dr. Andrews welcomes me as soon as we arrive.“I didn't expect to see you again that soon,” he jokes. I had an appointment with him just two days ago."And is that the father?" He looks at Mr. McCormick."For God's sake no." I laugh exhausted. "This is my boss, Mr. McCormick." I explain to Dr. Andrews."Please excuse me." He looks at him, embarrassed.“No problem.” Waves this from “Alexa, I'll check on you tomorrow.
Not for that." They both wave."I have to go to the office, I have to see how I teach Mr. Hyatt." I grin, embarrassed.“I'll see you tonight!” Luca kisses me again and I get into my car.I take a quick look into my office and Jas greets me warmly."Did you have a nice weekend?" She smiles at me."Yes, thank you, I hope you do too. Do you know if Mr. Hyatt is there? ”I look at her questioningly."Yes and yes." She grins."I'll be with him for a moment." I walk across the hallway and Amanda gives me an angry look.I knock on the door and then enter.Mr. Hyatt is on the phone and I'm supposed to sit down. I wait patiently for it to finish.“Alexa…” he looks at me surprised “Have you heard that Malibu Engine has chosen us as a law firm? Your presentation was fabulous. ”He smiles at me."No, I didn't know that before, but I just got here." I admit and again he loo
"Sailboat." I reply and he goes to the harbor master to let them know that we are leaving.Once on the boat, Landon and Luca set about getting the boat ready to sail while I sit on the roof of the cabin and think.I am going to have a child. It's not like I have a lot of choice now…I'll be a mummy and I'll make sure my child doesn't go wanting.Inwardly, I make a list of what I have to do.Point 1: Keep calm and hope that everything goes well this time.Point 2: Talk to Luca and Landon, I'll need them by my side.Point 3: Looking for a new apartment, something more family-friendly and not so in the center.Point 4: Talk to Mr. Hyatt or Mr. McCormick, I have to adjust my working hours and maybe get someone into my office. I won't be able to do this alone in the long run.Point 5: I have to talk to my mum, I won't tell her about the baby, but I can no longer keep her silent.Point 6: I have to turn my
