Hickey?

The corridors of St. Theresa High were rumbling with commotion as the sun shone brightly over Mumbai. Students were running about, chasing each other. Some were busy chatting away, gossiping the latest gossip. A few were liking and commenting on the latest prank video posted on the Junior class Instagram page.

Samarth on the other hand was lost in his own thoughts. His mind was occupied by one person: Mayra.

How was it that he couldn't see her running towards him, ready to give him yet another slap? Or rather, a mouthful of cuss words?

Aditya was told to post the video on their page. Had she seen it?

Picking up his phone from his jeans pocket, he opened the account. It was co-owned by him.

Damn! Aditya and his forgetful brain!

He hadn't posted the video yet.

Samarth wanted to get back at her. His cheek had stopped hurting but everytime he thought of her, the scene replayed in his mind all over again. His blood boiled with anger. He was glad that at least none of his friends had witnessed that embarrassing and insulting scene. And they were never ever going to find out about it.

His thought-process came to a sudden halt when he saw Reanna approaching towards him, swaying her hips. The wind blew into her hair, making the brown locks fly in all directions. She looked like an actress from a TV commercial. He thought of Mayra. A giggle escape him when he imagined her and knew for once she would pass for a daayan.

Reanna seemed to be preoccupied, her gaze was unfocused. In her hands she carried a folder which was pressed tightly to her chest.

Samarth saw the opportunity and quickly hid behind a turn against a wall, waiting for her arrival.

She approached towards him, oblivious to what was awaiting her and gasped when she felt an arm grab hers, pulling her towards the isolated, dim-lit corridor.

Samarth pinned her against the wall and peppered her with soft kisses on the face. For a moment, she was too shocked to react but then recovered quickly. She eased herself while gently putting an arm on his chest and giving it a slight push.

Now, it was Samarth's time to feel astonished. Although, he felt more disappointed. He looked down deep into her eyes and whispered, "Hey."

She smiled back at him, a smile which didn't reach her eyes. Stroking his cheek with her thumb, she confessed, "I wish we could do this now, babe. But I'm really busy at the moment." She raised the folder in her hands to his eye-level.

He moved away from her, his heart felt like it was sinking deeper and deeper. With a muffled voice, he said, "Okay. But, this weekend, my farmhouse. Only you and me. How does that sound?"

The hope he had built up crushed and turned to dust when he heard her reply, "Like something which is not possible." She then added a frown.

"Why?"

She raised the folder again, "I'm participating in a beauty pageant which will take place in Delhi. I'm going this Friday and I won't return for two weeks." She frowned again, "These are the permission papers I'm supposed to get signed from the HOD."

"You didn't tell me!" He accused her. Deep inside he knew though, she doesn't need to tell you everything.

"I was going to tell you yesterday at the movie theatre but then the rest of the gang showed up too...?"

He knew that was no fair excuse. It was in no way valid. She was only shooting arrows in empty air hoping it would strike a target somewhere but failed terribly.

He looked away from her eyes, unable to see into them without feeling anger surge higher into himself. His eyes lowered to her neck and he found something on it. Something he hadn't given her.

"Is that a hickey?" He asked, unsure.

It was one of the disadvantages of being fair. Every time you blushed even in the slightest it would show. Even if the reason was embarassment. Or spilling of  a hidden truth.

"What, uh?" She touched her neck and pulled her hair forward, making an unsuccessful attempt at hiding the love bite. "I-I really gotta go, babe." She briefly kissed his cheek and scurried away into the corridor.

A groan escaped his mouth as his fist collided with the wall. The pain traveled from his knuckles and reverberated throughout his body, finally settling into his chest.

He knew the person behind it. The college guy from the canteen and as much as he wished to smash hit head against the wall and poke hot iron rods through his body, he stayed calm. Because, she had done it with consent. And that broke a part of him, leaving him shattered.

Was he not enough? Will he ever be enough for her?

Samarth had a toxic trait; he hurt in silence and prayed that someone loved him enough to notice he's not being himself.

And he did just that. For the whole day. He got through, keeping his words to a bare minimum. Terminating conversations by replying with single syllables. He wished he could centre his attention on that one reason that hurt him but he seemed lost in his own mind. Then the other thoughts flew in, leaving him more restless than ever.

An hour of kicking around one ball between twenty adrenaline-filled teenagers exhausted Mayra, even though she was only a spectator. She had undoubtedly enjoyed the few goals Shrey had scored and scoffed at some Samarth had managed to execute.Thankfully, everytime the ball approached her way, she'd dodged it. But Niharika, one of the cheerleaders wasn't as lucky, neither was she attentive or had good reflexes. It was good to know that she'd only hurt her arm. Nothing major.Mayra had barely read a few pages of the book she'd freshly issued from the library. A spark of excitement had ignited inside of her and she knew she couldn't wait for the next session. She was beyond enthralled and now understood why there existed so many 'die hard' football fans."Amazing is the word, right?" Shrey asked with a smirk, trying to be cool."Gross is. You're drenc

That week had lasted longer than any Mayra had lived before. The weekend had finally dawned and she couldn't wait to go home and have a good long nap while cuddling with her teddy bear. A yawn escaped her lips. Most of the lights were turned off, filling the long-stretched room with an unending darkness. She doubted for a second whether Samarth was still in there but she hadn't seen him leave and her eyes were on the door all the time."Samarth?" She called out and her voiced echoed back from the walls. The darkness crawled on her skin, making her feel uncomfortable. She wished Shrey had done this instead. She called out his name again but received no response whatsoever. Her feet took her back along the path she came, convinced that he had left without her notice. Suddenly, she halted when her eyes caught the faint outline of a figure. Walking closer, she realised it was inde

After seeing Reanna off at the airport along with Tania and Samarth, Aditya decided to take another stop before returning back to his house. The sun was about the set and the sky was coloured with different shades ranging from purple to orange. However he knew he couldn't end another day without talking to Raina. She had taken to ignoring him during classes. Aadhya had stuck to her same story. But he didn't believe it.Standing outside her doorstep, he took a deep breath before ringing the bell twice. It chimed and he anticipated to see her smiling face opening the door. The door opened slightly and she peeped through the little gap. Aditya passed her a wide grin and she opened the door completely, but with a irritated expression on her face. She was dressed in PJs and a loose tshirt. Her hair was uncombed and her face was natural, not a tinge of makeup. Without the contour, h

"Who's going to write the Schrödinger Equation on the board?" Mrs. Dixit asked, wiping her chalk covered hands on her kurti. She added soon, "Without looking into the texbook."Shrey didn't simply nickname Mayra 'Hermione Granger'. Oh, no. The name suited her perfectly. She was the ardent worshipper of the phrase 'Knowledge is power'. And she didn't fear to show off her power in front of her petty classmates who took everything for granted. Her hand shot up high into the air. Shrey tried to muffle a snort."Come up, quick." The chemistry teacher commanded and she obeyed. She picked up a piece of chalk from the table and started writing the equation on the board."Done." She said and was about to place the chalk piece back but she was interrupted.Mrs. Dixit asked with a raised eyebrow, "Are you sure it's correct?" She turned

"Today is the day Samarth Singhania takes his last breath!" Mayra scoffed and stomped her feet on the floor as she walked past several students in the corridor. They watched her in awe and laughed as she passed them. It didn't take them a lot of time to realise she was the same girl from the recent Instagram prank video posted by the Junior Class.Shrey huffed behind her, trying to keep up with her pace as she stormed out into the campus to look for the person that caused her to fume out in anger."I know, Mayra, I did promise I'd accompany you in all your ventures but going to jail wasn't something I was expecting to be in the list."She took longer strides as her eyes darted from left to right in search of Samarth. The ridiculous glares she earned from the teenagers settled around her only added fuel to the rage inside of her."Maybe, I won't kill him, Shrey! But a few punches will go a
