Chapter 1

Birth Day

I woke up as soon as my alarm clock went off. Today was the day. Today was my 18th birthday. I ran down the many corridors and stairs as fast as I could. There was only one face I wanted to see this morning. Only one person who I wanted to share my excitement with.

"Jacob!" I whooped as I swung open his chamber doors. Jacob was in the process of getting dressed for the day.

"You really must knock, your highness." He said with an air of professionalism. "or you're gonna get me fired, Hen!" He chuckled. There he was, my best friend. Of course, it's always been interesting trying to strike the right balance between us, he is my manservant after all. The one person assigned to be with me as I grow, to tend to me. Typically they don't grow so close but Jacob and I are not typical. In more ways than one actually...but I'm jumping ahead of myself.

"Jacob! Do you know what day it is?!" It was all I could do to hold in my excitement.

"How could I not, Henry? It's only all anyone has been talking about for months. The ball tonight, the coronation just around the corner"

"Please, don't remind me"

"Hey, You will make a great king!" Jacob made sure to emphasize that word. Great. But how could he know for sure? I've never been King before , how does He know I won't mess the whole kingdom up. Of course, I didn't want him to know what I was thinking.

"You suck-up." I joked, hoping to steer us out of this vulnerable sea.

"I'm serious." He doesn't let up. "You're kind, compassionate; you care so deeply about all of your people. I've never met someone with a bigger heart then you. And of course, how could the ladies resist--this--face" He finished as he suqeezed my cheeks.

"Not just the girls apparently." I half-joked as I pushed his hands off of me. We both laughed but we both knew I was being serious. I had been sensing it for the last few days, well, the last few months if I'm honest. And then last week happened.
