The Lost Princess

CRASH!

I wake up drenched in sweat as the nightmare I was having is still fresh in my mind.  I want to think it is only a dream but I know better.  For the last month I have been having dreams that seem to come true the next day.  Most of them have been small things like the power going out at school and us getting the rest of the day off, or our Alpha calling my dad away to do some project for him.  My dad is the pack architect and the Beta but he always there when I need him.  

This dream, however, what not a small thing that could be pushed to the back of my mind.  In the dream my dad was sent on an errand for the Alpha to the neighboring pack, but on the way home he was hit head on by a semi truck.  I woke up to the crash of the semi hitting my dad's car.  So maybe he will be okay I tell myself. 

"Ever," my dad, Thomas, calls from downstairs.  "If you do not hurry up you will not be able to eat before school."

"Okay, dad." I reply while getting out of bed and trying to shake the bad feeling I had.  I have not told my parents that I am having the dreams again since the last time they freaked out and took me to see the pack doctor who looked worried, told them that I needed to see a special "healer".  The healers name was Sorcha, and she told my parents that I needed to wear this bracelett at all times or the dreams would come back.  She then took my parents aside and had a private conversation with them that I, to this day, have no clue what was said but my mom looked terrified afterwards.  When I met shifted for the first time my parents looked releived like they were worried I was not going to have a wolf at all. 

"You know its the last day of school, and only a half day at that. I don't think it matters much if I eat." I say as I come down the stairs checking my watch.

"Maybe I want to eat with you, did you ever think of that my little siog," he said wrapping his arm around my shoulders and giving me a kiss on the forehead. I always loved it when he called me his fairy.

I loved both of my parents but my dad always seemed to be the one who understood me more.  I look a lot like my dad, we were both tall with dark brown hair and high cheek bones.  However, he has brown eyes and I have bright glass green eyes, that I was told was passed down from a distant relative.  My mom, Maggie, on the the other hand, is shorter with strawberry blonde hair, an oval face and brown eyes.  She is always there when we need but works a lot for the ad agency in the city and is always gone before I get up.

As we sit down at the kitchen table to eat the pancakes my dad made this morning, he looks tired and his usual happy eyes look worried. "I have to go meet with the Alpha after we eat but I should be home before school lets out." he says.

"Okay. Cass said something about hanging out after school but I can come striahgt home if you want"

"No, you guys go have fun. So, what are you planning on doing?" 

"Well, she said something about going to the mall after school. Something about new shorts for the summer." I say as I roll my eyes. My dad laughs, "What you do not like shopping with your best friend?" he says.

"You know I do. Or did.  Now she brings Derrick along and we never get to spend any real time together." I tell him. "But it will be okay, that just means its easier for me to sneak off and go to the book store without hearing her grip about." I smile.  As I leave the house to go pick Cass, I try not to think about the dream I had and tell myself I will see my dad in a few hours.

   As I pull up my best friends house she comes running out of the house in a yellow sundress.  We have been friends since second grade and she is just beautiful.  She is just a hair shorter than I am with black hair and blue eyes.  As she gets in the car she says "Guess what?" 

"What?"

"I told Derrick he could not come this afternoon so you and I can spend some girl time together." As a werewolf we find our mates starting when we are 17 years old.  You can be around someone your whole life and never know they are meant for you until you become of age.  That is what happened to Cass.  She and Derrick lived next door to each other for five years before she turned 17 and then realized he was her mate.  I, however, turned 17 last year and still have not found my mate. I am not too worried though, my grandmother did not find her mate until she was almost 20. 

"Really!"

"Yep! You and I are going to get our hair, nails, and toes done today, as well as getting a few new outfits for the summer."

"Awesome, I cannot wait."

When we get to school we are told to go to our homeroom class so they can give us the usual end of the year spill. Mr. Brunner starts by saying that we need to pay attention this year since we will be seniors next year.  Cass, is sitting with her mate, since he is not coming with us after school, and not paying attention as usual. 

"As seniors, next year, it is no reason to slack off......."

I can hear Mr. Brunner in the background but I suddenly in front of me I see the highway and my dad's music playing.  I look down and its like I am my dad.  He reaches down to turn the radio station and I hear the blaring horn of a truck.  When I look up all I can see is a truck headed straight for me.  

"NO!" I yell just as the truck slams into the car.

"Ever, wake up." I hear Cass saying. I open my eyes and the whole room is standing over me looking worried.  "What happened?" I ask.

"You screamed and then passed out." she says, "Are you okay?"

Just then the principal walks in and whispers something to Mr. Brunner.  He tells me I need to go with her and I know something awful has really happened.  When we walk into the office there is a police officer standing there.  He tells me I need to go with and that my mother is waiting for me.

We head to the hospital and the whole time I am trying to come up with something else that could have happened, but it is no use.  I know as soon I walk in and see my mother that my vision has come true. My dad had died.
