The battle continued as the rain poured. The lights shined down. Puddles made ripples as they fight on the labyrinth streets of Aured City.

Dion Bismark had been able to lessen the firepower of the enemy by making him waste his ammunition. Not only that, but he was also sure that the boosters of the assassin should have run out. Battling for minutes had weakened Dion Bismark. As an etherian, he could fight long battles, but his consumption of ether made him feeling empty.

"Not yet," Dion Bismark told himself. Firing another round of ether bullets at the enemy, Dion Bismark abandoned using air steps. He stayed in cover, making a lot of noise as possible. He wasn't going to rely on the 'police force' of this City. His only hope was now Diana.

Sprinting through alleyways, he dodged the gunfire of the small arms of the assassin. He didn't let his guard down even though he wasn't firing his anti-material rifle. One thing that was in his mind that as long as he didn't throw that gun out. He's going to use it.

The rain dampened the noise. Dion Bismark growled as he fired an ether arrow at the enemy, electrifying the area around the assassin. The assassin was stunned by the trap laid by Dion Bismark. But he immediately rolled to the side, drew his pistol, and shot at Dion Bismark. Most of the shots didn't miss. The shield reacted, his skin glowing purple as the ether rushed in as he inhaled.

"Shit," Dion cursed. He had noticed that he was a walking target with his skin glowing of ether in this hard rain. He decided that the enemy was an etherian, but there was no 'ether glow' around him. Not even through that full mask of his.

"What kind of monster is hunting me, damn it."

Dion Bismark thought that the bounty on his head was not that high. Although he was an etherian and made a few enemies, no one would be foolish enough to face an etherian like him in battle. The benefits and rewards were less. Dion Bismark made sure to pay Haven as a way to lower his bounty.

"So either this person has a grudge or sent by those bastards who want my assets. It's unlikely for them to send someone now that I have the agreement of some of the Etherians."

"Who sent you!?" Dion shouted. It was in vain. The assassin didn't stop attacking, replying words with gunfire. But Dion wasn't going to stop.

Time passes, and Dion never felt so tired in his life. The enemy was determined to kill him. Although he had neutralized the booster of the enemy, the enemy was shameless enough to use bottles, cans, and trash bin covers. His ether withered to the point that he had to rely on his pistol for cover fire.

When his ammunition ran out, he dedicated the last of his ether to strengthened his body. He broke a pipe from a wall and waited for the enemy to come over. It was then that the bells in head rang out loudly.

The cover he was hiding got blown apart, ringing his ears and dazing him. Looking up, he saw a cutter sword coming at him.  Blocking with his pipe, he threw a kick at the armor plating on the assassin. Rolling back to his feet, he smashed his shoulder at the assassin's torso. Landing three blows at the shoulder, but the exosuit's plate glanced the blow, softening Dion's blow even with his enhanced strength.

The enemy retreated two steps and started thrusting his cutter sword at Dion. Dion blocked the cutter sword with the pipe. It was a pathetic resistance for an etherian, but seeing that the cutter sword was a problem, he didn't hold back, took the strength he used to strengthen his body to slam it on the sword.

The attack stunned the assassin, he gathered another strength, his hands shaking, and slamming his hands down on the body of the assassin. The assassin backed off, took a southpaw stance, and jabbed Dion on the face.

Dion's felt his ears ring. The assassin followed with a knee and elbowed Dion on the neck. Roaring, Dion felt the adrenaline rush as his ether held on, punching the exosuit, and making the ether on his hand fire like a cannon.

The assassin flew backward, his body armor shattering, but he landed on his feet, rushing in, and tackled Dion. Dion kneed the assassin and tried to electrocute him only for the assassin to throw him down with a shoulder throw.

The assassin retreated, unslung the rifle on his back, loaded it with a bullet, and aimed at Dion. Dion raised a thin shield, the bullet shattering it, taking a bit of Dion's flesh.

Stumbling to the side, spurting blood from his mouth, eyes tearing up, he stood back to his feet. He raised his shaking arms and didn't bother taking to account his ether consumption. He blasted the assassin with his ether. A shockwave meant to stun the enemy.

Like a cornered animal, he grabbed on to a bottle and attempted to stab it on the assassin's throat. The assassin pushed him back with his shoulder, took another round, loaded it into the chamber of his rifle, and aimed it at Dion.

Dion roared. He made a layered shield only for the bullet to explode into a green mist where he felt his body slowly lose control of the ether he was holding. Before he lost his ether completely, he blasted the poison cloud above and attempted to flee.

Then he heard the sound of a bullet loaded into a weapon. A gunshot sounded, and Dion fell face-first on the puddle. He felt blood pouring out of him. His heart rapidly thumped at the sound of a loaded weapon.

Rolling to his back, he saw the assassin point the barrel of his six-shooter at him. He glared at the assassin, not caring about the tears in his eyes.  Dion Bismark did not go gently. He wanted to console himself with that as the bullet entered his skull.

The orbs of light hanging on the circular tower not far from where he was lighted Jakob's face. The veil of rain splits the lights. On the community, there was a group of people opening the hatches so that the floodwater whirls down the drain. From the second-floors of the buildings, there were men and women dressed in thick gray clothing.Jakob rested his back on the bench. He looked up. The flyers of Aured City numbered about hundreds a day. The city consumed fuel than any of the bastion cities. He had been ignorant of the world. Jakob did not have to know about the city. All he knows back then was how to survive a day outside of the city.Jakob clenched his fist. He had done something to change something. He did not know what it was that made things turned out this way, but he could not understand the empty feeling. The feelings he had while in battle were like momentary and fleeting."I really cannot do it," Jakob said. The rainwater was like spray hitting h

Jakob stood behind Helga. She wore a sharp business suit with a red tie. She had gloved her hands and tied her hair into a ponytail. She spoke to a man armed to the teeth. Though he looked intimidating, Helga did not show any stiffness or being overwhelmed. How could he, when Jakob was standing behind her with such an expression? The two talked for minutes. Helga shook the armored hand of the man and started strutting to the pad. The Karnifex was on the landing pad. Helga stood. She took out a cigarette from her pocket, lighting it up. She looked up at the Aured Sky."Just a drizzle of rain," Helga said.Jakob folded his armored arms. Helga snickered."You are getting used to that suit.""Hard to take it off when it seems like you are making use of me too much.""Can't help it, you are a good at what you do. Also, the Boss wants to personally make sure that my safety is secured."Jakob surveyed the area. The personnel from the buildin

  • The Outrider   Chapter 47: A Moment For Dona

Dona liked to mix drinks. She had become a better mixer than ever. It seems she had a natural talent. Helga had praised her drink, and when Jakob comes home, she would give him a stiff one that would ease his muscles. They had not done it for a long time, though she did not mind it. He was always full of thoughts and his mind would wander. Not that it matters to her as long as he comes home safe from his missions. He had become one of the terrifying people that Haven knew after his recent works, which made him quite an important person. Just by association, they treated her with respect. Dona knows she was riding on his coattails. It did not bother her that there are those who would call her hurtful words.Jakob was not someone who was a restricting person. For someone who started the relationship with cash, he was someone who did not bother too much about it. He was not a wasteful man. He was thrifty, and he liked to eat nutritional food with fondness. He acts like an

The beluaman raises the ground, forcing Jakob to use the grappler stake to swing around the beluaman's attack, using the momentum created by the weight of the greatsword to hasten the swing. He turns around to smash the greatsword down on a 15m belua."Still alive, J," Helga called, "you are making Dona worry.""Got to buy time, Hel," Jakob flattened the greatsword to block a root spire. He grappled on the 15m belua, threw the greatsword, caught it, and pummeled a belua pouncing at him. Landing on top of a belua, he stabbed the greatsword's tip."Your suit is a mess," Helga said, "the amount of repairs it'll need is going to cost you. Nonetheless, the ether forge,

Her opinion towards humans were low. Anastasia will not work with these humans if she had the chance to do so. Blackwells changed her opinions of them. This time she had to admit. Humans were not as inferior as she thought. Their technology were keeping them alive. Even their medicine and drugs have started evolving. The suit this Outrider was wearing and the ability to lift her Blackwell's sword was enough to indicate.Still, it was odd in a sense that she did not see the usual side effects. He did not even take the usual syringes that one would take. Her and her Blackwells have been part of the many meetings and experiments. They share the burden of turning their fellow etherians into good soldiers. Therefore, she did not recognize any signs of modification other than the well-made exosuit. Deep in the swamp, hit by the rain, and surrounded. Anastasia kept her calm while pulling her Blackwells away. Blackwells conserved his energy. His eyes lacked light. There is an
