His head was heavy. A thick pain could be felt on his forehead. His veins pulsated as he started to move. He was dizzy, disorientated. He felt as though the wind had been knocked out of him. He struggled to pick himself up with one arm. When he mustered up the strength he only crumbled in pain. He hadn't noticed the wound protruding from his side. And he hit the floor with a painful shrill. When he looked up, he remembered.

Dona was all he thought. He remembered his phone was in his back pocket. He wiggled about to only be startled by something looking at him down the hallway. It cracked the door open, ever-so-slightly. He knew it was there, he was there. He thought it a man, a human. He nearly called out to it in a rage until the door flung open with a thud. His heart rate did not need time to respond, it immediately grew in pace. His fingers felt buttered as he tried to grab his phone. Its hand appeared first, out of the darkness of the room.

If you could call it a hand... It had no skin, no nails. It had freakishly long fingers, that could curl around a man's neck. The forefinger started to tap on the floor. Like a deadly hymn, its tapping echoed down the hallway. His phone was near his ear now. He was about to say something, about to blabber his misfortunes. Until it's head popped out of a void. Its faceless, bloodied head. The words got caught in his throat. He tried to scream but he stuttered. His eyes were locked onto the figure, transfixed by it, paralyzed by its hollow eye sockets.

It made a different sound. A cracking sound. Its neck started to do a 360, and its bones chirped on. Its body appeared twisted, his legs stood out like a crab's. It had the body of a man, and yet no man could bend in that way. He suddenly knew what he was dealing with. The operator was on the phone. The only sound audible to him at that moment and yet he was frozen.

"Hello", he was able to whisper. It stepped closer, contorting its body as it walked. "Dona", he said.  Typical Harry, he thought. It walked like a broken tarantula.

"They took Dona."

His pupils dilated, he started to tremble. When the operator started asking too many questions, she turned into background music. It was a few feet from him now, churning its head at him. He felt tense. It brought with it an odour that made his eyes water.

"Hurry".

He tried to slide away from it, clenching his wound. When its saunter turned into a full-on crawl he screamed. His voice suddenly renewed and he told her everything.

His eyes drifted to the door behind him in a split second and by the time she asked," Is he still in the house?"

He turned back and the creature was gone. It left its evidence behind in lines of red across the floor. Blood-stains, not of his making.

  • The Painters Death Wish   His dying wish

She was wearing a classic trench coat, with a fedora and that hid most of her red hair. Sitting across from a concerned family, she stated."Like any private detective, I have seen many things in my years, even previously as a former agent."She took her hat off and entwined her fingers. "But nothing could have prepared me for what was to come." As the husband held his wife in his arms, she wailed as the detective continued. "I am sorry for your loss."

  • The Painters Death Wish   Beauty Encompassed

There she was. As a lusting satyr grabbed at a feminine figure, Dona was now the sleeping Hermaphrodite artwork. Approaching her from the rear, Harry thought she represented Venus, but, the front side revealed something unexpected. Why had she been represented as Aphrodite's son and not Aphrodite herself? She was stark naked, posing like a doll with no expression. He wanted to touch her, to stroke her cheek and feel the urgency of the scene in front of him. His chest was caving in, and he found it hard to breathe. The tears st

  • The Painters Death Wish   We were once part of the Earth

The doorknob twisted and a light twinkling of metal came from outside. With murderous intent, Harry flung open the door, clinging onto the arch in need for support. Like a cunning serpent, he entered the garden of artworks. Grabbing his phone torch; he lit his way through the gallery. The air was dry, and his sinuses gnawed at him. He sneezed so hard he stumbled into something near the wall. It was wet paint. The gallery was still in the making, the interior design was incomplete, but there were

  • The Painters Death Wish   Do y*u know who I am

No matter the room, the smell of rotting flesh followed him like a shadow. He had to steady himself on the walls, trying to escape the voices. Fervent wailing and inaudible speech vibrated all around him. He staggered his way to an unassuming door at the far end of the house. He turned his back to it as soon as he fell, rolling down the door with his stomach clenched. He held his head in his hands, shaken and confused he looked up. Looking down the hallway, the paintings and all their tumult ceased. He was now able to breathe,

  • The Painters Death Wish   His studio

*Trigger Warning* This chapter contains graphic contents.Breathless, he stood outside of Tony's residence. His throat was dry, as he swallowed in the sultry rage bobbing around his apple. He kept flicking his forefingers together. It was the witching hour, and he didn't care.

  • The Painters Death Wish   Among the noise

His ribs convulsed with every breath as he sat on the edge of the bed with his hands on his knees. Sweating profusely he tried to stand but rocked his way back to the bed. He felt groggy, a headache, was waiting for him along with the clutter of a new day. He stood and stretched his shoulders, twisted his neck and walked towards the studio. He'd find himself wandering around like a desert wind, without a place to rest. He tried to stay busy with something other than work- he knew that it was a bad idea to be enthralled by the
