CHAPTER 8

Alessandro’s back was to the door when she barged in, she hesitated for a moment when she saw the unclothed upper half of his body, “What are you?, why I’m I here?”, she barked.

“What do you think I am?”.

“Well apart from being a jerk, an ego maniac and a cold blooded murderer, I think you’re a monster who drinks blood to survive!”, She screamed her reply, tears gushing out of her eyes, “Is that why I’m here?, Did you suddenly have a craving to drink royal blood?, Is that why my parents were killed?”.

“Hey slow down”, he turned to face her, “There’s more that goes on in this world than you". He watched as she slowly dabbed at her eyes, her eyes strayed from his face and rested on his chests.

He smirked, “You want to go back to the conversation we are having or you have found something of interest to keep you busy".

“It’s hardly something of interest”, she shrugged.

“I read your mind", he said matter of factly.

“What are you?”.

“I am a vampire and you’re in a vampire kingdom”, he replied, “Not like it wasn’t so obvious".

She looked at him like she had seen a clown and burst into laughter, this was new, he thought, he had never seen her laugh, not like anything about her life recently was funny. Her laughter kept him rooted to the spot. 

He watched her slowly recover from her fits of laughter and when her eyes met his unamused ones, hers hardened probably realising he was serious about every word he said.

“You’re not joking?”, she asked bewildered.

He moved to a chair in the room and sat reclined in it, he observed her for a second, “You know for a princess you’re pretty dumb", he pointed towards her like he was thinking, “No make that flat out dumb".

She fumed and folded her arms across her chest, “At least I’m not the murderer here", she shot him a glare.

“It wasn’t supposed to be that hard to figure out. Vampires are the most dominant species in the universe. It baffles me that you had no idea”. He said.

“I didn’t know vampires existed or...or that...that they were real", she replied stuttering, “I thought it was a myth, I thought it was a story...I”.

He stared intently at her, “What other things did your father keep from you?. Turns out you were one of those very protected princesses who did nothing for themselves, pfft", he snorted.

“And I’ll still be one if you hadn’t come and snatch my life away from me!”. She retorted angrily.

“No regrets whatsoever, I’ll do it over again if I got the opportunity to, this time I’d make sure you witness every last moment of it". He spat in anger.

“You have huge psychological problems and they are much bigger than your ego", She retorted her chest heaving, “You’re not human, that explains it, that explains a lot of things, you drink blood and all so what else do you do?, Eat humans??”, she questioned, “That would explain why you’re a shitty person!!”.

He shrugged nonchalantly, “There are many things that I am but a teacher is not one of them".

“Teachers are very wise people. You can’t be one”, she answered, “So I’m supposed to believe all those scary tales of vampires my nanny told me as a kid actually happened. That there are real life creatures and not mythical?”.

He studied her, “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with your ignorance”.

“I need fresh air”, She stated.

“You look like you need a lot of air”, he studied her pale expression, “You’re more ghostly than I am".

“I think I’m go...”, she dropped to the floor.

Alessandro sighed, “Humans, pathetic...”.

“Hello?...”

Isabella ran across the field, it was lush green. She looked as far as her eyes would let her but she didn’t see anyone in view.

“Anyone here?”, she shouted, “Where is this place?”, she asked no one in particular however her voice echoed with no response. 

Lovely flowers added beauty to this green field, she picked a white daisy and tucked it behind her ear.

“That’s a very pretty flower”, a lady’s voice behind her caused her to turn in fright.

“Its alright", the pretty lady cooed, she had very long black hair.

“Where is this place?”. Isabella asked.

I can’t exactly say where this place is or why you’re here", the lady answered, “I’m not sure I’m supposed to see you”

“Who are you?”.

“I am...”.

“Isabella...Isabella!”.

The sound of her name drowned out the woman’s voice she felt herself being roused and her eyes fluttered open. Her vision was blurry until she could make out Cecily’s face hovering over her. Cecily’s scared face relaxed when she saw Isabella’s opened eyes.

“You’re awake, I was worried sick about you", Cecily said breathlessly. 

“Where is Alessandro?”.

“He left, he asked me to come check on you", Cecily answered.

Isabella sat up, “Vampires exist. They are vampires”.

Cecily nodded.

“I thought it was just a myth. I didn’t make meaning of any of the stories. I had no idea whatsoever, no one talked about them, none of my professors. I didn’t know they had a kingdom... I...I had...no...idea".

“Cecily took Isabella’s hand hesitantly, “You were a princess, you had yet to be inducted into the society. You never got out except inside the castle walls. I think that explains it".

“If my parents knew something why would they keep it from me?”, she questioned rhetorically. 

“I cannot answer that but vampires are real, they do exist. They have five territories, this is the largest of all five", Cecily answered.

“What else do you know about these creatures?”

“There are five Original bloodline Vampires, history has it that they were the first vampires and out of them other vampires were formed. They have lived for over a very long time. It is impossible to tell how old they truly are...”.

“Immortality?...”.

“Yes”, Cecily answered, “It is perceived that Isles is the greatest vampire kingdom and King Malcolm is the most powerful, however that is highly in question after he lost his mate”.

“His mate?”, Isabella asked in confusion.

“His wife”, Cecily stopped for a bit, “That is why Alessandro takes care of almost everything around here and that’s why the King needed blood".

Isabella thought for a while, “Is there a library around here?”.
