But there is a distinctive difference between a narrow mind that refuses to distinguish that being a lower class born can be changed. Edna sympathies with the street born who feels discouraged to be strong. The novel reveals from the onset the life of a lower class people and the chaos that goes on in the street. It further reveals the search for a better life only for fate to get twisted as it reveals her root. The unplanned birth of Edna makes it predominant for the rejection by her father. But it never ignited in her a resolution to find her father. The story further explains how life tough edges can be straightened if faith is kept alive. Her beloved grandmother who feels discouraged about the unending troubles that comes with catering for her children but feels relieved as Mrs Coker appears as a saviour to her distress. But not long after, Edna becomes part of the Coker's calamity as trouble comes knocking on the door again with it's unending woes, but there seems to be a light out of the tunnel.

For sometime now, she felt safe and had obediently worked for them but things had turned around so soon as she became a part of them, but Mrs Coker had let her stay with them despite the circumstances surrounding their lives. Having lost her job, she decided to go sell some wares at the street market down the road but already she had made some contacts with people to notify her when a vacancy for a job is on. She also dropped some application letters in some of the companies that had vacancy. The day was a sunny one with the sun emitting it's scorching rays to the earth, they both stood as they called in a low tone for people to purchase their wares. Chapter TwelveThe seasons for the rains had come and it seemed to Edna like the gate of heavens were open as rain fell down heavily. She heard a sound but could not detect immediately if it was her mind playing games with her or a reality.
