The new vampire lord

I unlike many others of my race was born a vampire, some of those turned call it a curse, and sometimes they are right, it can be a curse, but the reality is they should be honoured. What we give them is an eternal life, we give them strength, we give them speed, they have heightened senses because of what they have become. Curse? I think not. The only thing that is a curse is watching those you love and care about die. The pain we experience watching that become tenfold, yes experiencing family and friends die can hurt but when you die that pain ends. For us that pain doesn't end and we have to watch it happen over and over again. And before you ask, yes we have human friends and sometimes family. 

But anyway, my name is Therion, and I am a born vampire, there's one twist to my tale, I'm the next in line to become the new high lord of vampires. My mother is the current ruler of our people, she's a good woman but she will be going in to an eternal sleep soon, after many years in charge we step down as rulers and our children take command. I'm a hundred and sixty seven years old but I only look around twenty four, because yes we do age a lot slower than humans. Which reminds me let me tell you about a few myths and truths about our kind.

No we don't burst in to flame in the sun, we can go out during the day, no crucifixes do not bother us in the slightest, nor does garlic, a stake to the heart does not kill us, the only way for us to die is be decapitated. We don't need sleep, we do sleep at times, but unlike humans we don't need to, we do need to drink blood, but we can and mostly do feed on animal blood, not human. Human blood doesn't make us more powerful or anything else, animal blood quenches our thirst, our hunger for blood. Yes some vampires do feed on human blood, these are usually people that have been banished from the vampire legion, ones who go against our laws.

One of our laws is only a council member can turn a human, and that is only if there is no other option, I'll give you an example, if a child has cancer and it is not curable, and the parents approach us we may change that child in to one of us, only after explaining to the family what that would mean for the child and for them.  There are many pureblooded vampires like myself, though in this day and age there are more who are turned due to being bitten by the banished, once we hear of a bite we act accordingly. If we can turn them, we do, if we can't because we don't think they'll survive the transition then we ease their passing.
