His biggest enemies in town were a few integrist rabbis, with a tendency to Jewish ultra-orthodoxy. These ones regularly reproached him not to keep Shabbat with his family. According to their words, Ray was an enemy to Judaism. Little did they know that Ray applied many principles of Judaism in his daily life, but to them he was 'Ray the heathen, Ray the goy, Ray the traitor'. According to these 'medieval people', Ray was 'worse than a non-Jew'. These long-bearded rabbis in halachic clothes were constantly making attempts to sabotage Ray's brilliant work at the municipality. Ray's intent was to promote tourism, and of course, Saturday was one of the best days to organize activities, because many people were off and wanted to relax

A MYSTERIOUS VISITOR AT THE TOWN HALL

Avi had his ultra-orthodox beliefs, but he also had a kind heart. He knew that he wasn't able to do much, because the whole community would go against him, but he wanted at least to give Ray a hint about what was going on before it was too late. Although he did not agree about Ray's politics and especially about the fact that he was non-observant of the holy Shabbat rest, Avi hated to see a man betrayed and trampled down. He hated gossips and backstabbing, and he knew he had to act promptly, so that Ray be able to heed his enemies. He used a pretext of being in difficulty with his electricity bills to set up an appointment at the town hall with the firm intention to pop up into Ray's office before his appointment.
