Chapter six

last update publish date: 2020-08-21 17:24:10

I woke up expecting the usual pains I get from sleeping on our hard bed at home, I also expected to hear the loud chatters of the compound children fighting for who to is to use the tap first.

But the silence around me and the fact that my back wasn't aching but was rather relaxed on the softness beneath me made me leap up in fright.

Eventually realizing that the purple room I was in was where I slept in last night made me relax. I quickly knelt down by the bedside, and said a quick prayer thanking God for being alive and asking God to bless my benefactors, I also asked God to help me take care of my mum in heaven, funny right.

After my prayers, I lied down on the bed and Snuggled into the soft pillow willing for sleep to take me once again. But the sleep wasn't fort coming, at home in it as hard, I was used to waking up by four in the early hours of the morning to either join the yard children at the tap or help mum supply ogi to her customers.

My mind drifted to the incidence of yesterday and I found myself chuckling at the slap Fola got from her mum yesterday, that girl is a devil.

After much contemplation on what to do in this huge house this morning, I stood up and went into the bathroom, I dabbed at my face and rinsed my mouth with water realizing I didn't come with a toothbrush. I made a mental calculation to ask Aunty Bola for one.

I rushed out of the bathroom, quickly made the bed, swept the room and opened up the windows. I looked out of the window and found out it had a wide view of the estate, I stretched my hands wide and decided to take in the fresh morning air and the solitude around me.

I didn't know for how long I stood there looking out the window until a knock on the door brought me out of my reverie. I rushed to open the door and found Aunty Bola behind it.

"Good morning MA " I greeted kneeling in the popular Yoruba traditional way.

" oooh! Anjola, you don't have to kneel down to greet me, get up jare, good morning and how was our night?" she berated jokingly.

" It was fine MA, how was yours too? " I asked.

" It was good my dear, I wasn't expecting you to be awake so early, couldn't you sleep? " she questioned.

" I actually slept MA, am just so used to waking up early" I replied.

" That is really good of you, I actually came to clean up your room" she stated.

" oh, there will be no need for that, I have cleaned it up already" I said surprised she actually came to sweep the room I slept in.

Like I don't have hands to clean it up I thought.

Looking around with her mouth wide open, " you really didn't need to do this, that is what I am employed here to do, am really surprised at how neat you did it, that's really nice of you" she said pulling me into a really tight suffocating hug.

"Um! MA" I said struggling for breath, she has a really voluminous breast almost twice that of Dorothy one of the new housemates in BBN and she had my small head trapped in between them.

" I need a tooth brush, I didn't come with any, can I get one please" I said after she had released me from her suffocating hug.

"Oh dear, did you check the draws, I always make sure to stack in new ones for guest" she replied dragging me into the bathroom and pulling out some drawers I didn't even notice were there before.

She brought out a tooth brush which she handed over to me and instructed me to have a bath and prepare for the rest of the day.

" Thank you, I'll meet you downstairs as soon as I am done" I muttered to her retreating figure.

3RD PERSON POV

Mr. Bolarin couldn't sleep all night, he was troubled, he kept seeing the image of his elder sister and he couldn't but see the driving resemblance the young girl had to her.

" she couldn't be lying about such a thing" he thought.

"Oh God, what have I done, why didn't I at least check on her, she is my only surviving family after our parents death, why didn't I even check up on her. I am a jerk for not even knowing if she was alive or not." he lamented.

"She also didn't reach out to me, what could I have done. I doubt if I remember the way to itasha, omo alé ni MI sha" he thought

" How do I break the news to my wife and daughter?, how will Joshua react to this when he gets back from the states?" he Cerebrated moving to the dressing mirror.

" what if they don't want her to stay?, what if they send her away?, where will she stay? " he kept thinking.

" well I have no other choice but to tell them, I am the man of the house and anything I say is final, i am her uncle so she is staying." he concluded moving back to the bed.

Minutes after lying down, he couldn't sleep, he kept tossing left and right, he was restless. Summoning courage, he decided to wake his wife and tell her about it.

" Jessie!, Jessie!, Jessie!" he called her name whilst taping her hands lightly, she is a deep sleeper unlike him who would wake up at the slightest sound, he usually jokes that even if a mosquito scratches the gate outside, he would hear in their room.

"Jessie! "he called again using a little force this time.

" Yes darling, what Is it this time? " she asked sleepily much to his relief.

"At least I didn't have to use water this time around" he thought.

" I hope you didn't wake me up for your pleasure because as I am ehn, I am really tired. More so, today is a weekend, don't you think I deserve all the rest I can get" she grumbled.

" well sugar plum" he chuckled, " I didn't wake you up for pleasure, like even if I did you wouldn't be interested" he teased tickling her lightly making her erupt in fits of laughter.

" OK then, why did you wake me up? " she asked hiccuping, she didn't like being tickled, it makes her laugh a lot causing her to hiccup.

" I woke you up to discuss something very serious with you" Mr. Bolarin said sounding and looking serious.

Seeing the change in her husband's mood, she stopped laughing and rested her head on his chest waiting to hear him out.

" So what is this about, I am all hears" she said stroking his stubble.

" Honey, do you remember I am from Itasha village?" he asked.

" yes I do Ademi" she replied

" And am sure you heard all the young girl said"

" Yes I did, she said she is from your village that she was sent to come and stay with her uncle by her mother"

" Do you remember Aunty Romoke" he asked.

"Yes I do, your only surviving family member, your elder sister" She stated.

" wait! " she exclaimed " how come I didn't see the resemblance since, I actually thought she just look like someone I knew, I didn't even know she was family" she said much to Mr. Bolarin's relief, he was confused as to how he would make her understand.

" Yes she is family, am glad you understand. She is the daughter of my Elder sister, Sister Romoke, she is my neice" he stated.

" So Angola is your niece, where had she been all this while?, where are her parents?, why is she here?, How come she came all the way from Itasha all by herself?," she asked.

" Which of this questions do you want me to give answers to first" Mr Bolarin asked jokingly.

" well as for her being my niece, Yes she is. As for how come, she is my elder sister's daughter but for the remaining questions, Only her can give answers to them."

" All right then, I think we'll just have to ask her" she replied sitting up.

" yes we'll ask her, go back to sleep now then when you wake up, we'll just have to ask her" he said.

" Am no longer in the mood to sleep, after all you just said, you still expect me to sleep, you must be joking" She said trying to make her eye bulge. " But anyways, we can keep ourselves busy" she winked.

" See you" Mr. Bolarin teased, " So you are no longer sleeping, you want us to keep ourselves busy abi, you that I was begging to wake up before" he chuckled.

" like you weren't the one disturbing my precious sleep" she retorted kissing him all over and at the same time pulling at his pyjamas.

" You this woman" he said in mock surrender, " who would believe after seeing you now that you weren't the one against this minutes back" he said pulling out her buttons and enveloping her lips in a fierce manner.

The sound of the door forcefully pulled open startled me at first but got me angry seeing as the intruder was no other person but Folakemi."What guts she has" I thought raising my eyebrows and masking up a bold face, her presence slightly intimidates me."What do you want here" I asked with a fake smile. She totally ignored my question and sashayed into the room. She walked towards the wardrobe and locked the doors rather too loudly, she moved to the shoe racks sniffing at them, she moved to the window and looked out before finally moving to my bed side table. She picked up the novel I earlier placed there and flipped through the pages before dropping it back. "I presume you have a flair for reading" she began. Mean while, I stood surprised and partly scared as to what bussines she had in my room."So the
