LOGINMr and Mrs Andrew invited all their sons and families to their house. The house was filled with people and children calling and shouting 'Grandma, grandpa' which made Mrs Andrew so happy.
The large family sat in their living room ,chatting and laughing. They were indeed happy. The children ran around the living room while playing.
"Oh,I am blessed," Mrs Andrew would say when any if the children run to her. She suddenly shifted her gaze from the children to where James was seating beside Leah,Paul's wife, smiling at their conversation.
"I want more children, James," James' mother suddenly declared.
"Mum,don't start, please," James pleaded knowing what his mother was implying.
"Don't start what? You're even sitting beside your brother's wife. Leah, come here," his mother ordered and Leah smiled and went to her.
James was obviously pissed off. "Mum,I —," James tried to say.
"Go and find a girlfriend, at least. Aren't you fed up of being a bachelor? At your age,I already married your father," his mum mentioned. That was not her first time saying that so it wasn't new to him.
James rested his elbows on his knees and covered his face with his palms. He was abashed. His brothers laughed at him teasingly. Leah and Cecilia also smiled.
"Will you stop that?" James cautioned but they yielded not except their wives.
Peter cleared his throat and faced his parents. "He has a girlfriend, mum, dad," he lied.
James abruptly raised his head. "What!" He exclaimed in shock.
"Her name is Joyce Donald," Peter continued and casted an evil grin toward James whose eyes looked as if they would pop out of their sockets anytime soon.
James rose and shouted his brother's name. "Peter, what are you saying?" He asked but Peter eyed him instead and smiled mischievously. He turned to his parents, "Mum,dad, don't believe —"
"I've heard about her," Cecilia interfered. "She's the one you told me about, right?" She asked her husband, Peter.
"Yes,honey," Peter answered.
"I've never heard about her," Leah admitted.
"I have but once," Paul informed.
James sat back on the chair, not knowing what else to do. "Mum,dad,it's a lie. Joyce is —"
"I want to see her," his parents chorused in surprise.
"What! She's just my P. A. No intimate relationship, mum," he explained but no one listened to him. They were convinced that Joyce was his lover. How could Peter do that to him. Why?
Mrs. Andrew announced the birthday party she would be celebrating that weekend. Her sons and daughters in-law promised her special gifts and she smiled as they mentioned them. James was about to say his own when she stopped him. "The best and only gift you can give me is your girlfriend, Joyce. I want to see her. Nothing more than that," she announced and he became terrified.
How could he bring a woman he had no relationship with to her parents? And as a girlfriend? He wondered how he would approach her and say such words. That would be foolish. Total baldadash.
That was what he thought of when he got home. He took out his phone to dial her number but he couldn't do it. What would he say to her? He would see her at the office the following day, anyway. He tried yo dismiss the thoughts of her in his head but they wouldn't budge. He collapsed on his bed and tried to sleep but the image of her keep appearing whenever he closes his eyes,so he opened them wide gazing up at the ceiling.
James rose suddenly and dialed Vivian's number. He told her to meet him in the bar they usually meet around his neighborhood but he would still need the help of his car. He got dressed and went there. He headed to the pub and started drinking to clear his head.
Vivian arrived some minutes later. "Why do you suddenly call? Anything wrong?" She asked and he nodded negatively, obviously getting drunk.
"No,no,no," he answered repeatedly. "I just need someone to keep me company," James said with a wry smile.
"James,I won't stay long. I have to go meet my fiance," Vivian said.
"Are you also making jest of me because I have none? Your fiancé ?" James said sadly. So,she's gotten herself a man. He suddenly wished the won't last. He smiled at the thought.
"No,James. I can't do that to you. I understand you," Vivian assured. She was about to add to her words when her phone rang. It was her fiance calling. He had called her earlier before James did that he wanted to see her but she had decided to come and see James first before going to meet him. She had the feeling that whatever they were going to discuss won't be pleasant. "I have to go. I'm sorry," she announced and paid the bill of James including the one she has ordered but hasn't touched and warned the bar tender not to release him until he was sober. Then, she hugged James and departed.
He was alone. Alone with his thoughts. He gazed up at the bar tender and requested for a trustworthy person who could drive him home and not kidnap him. The bar man smiled and appointed a man who James gave his car keys and described his house to him.
The young man drove him home and was paid by James after hr retrieved his key from him. He thanked him and went inside his house and fell asleep on the couch in his large living room.
He was really alone in his world.

James got to his office late the following morning. He had overslept and had a bad hangover. How could the person who preached punctuality overslept on a working day?Joyce got to his office and smiled. "I thought you won't be coming. Why are you so late? It's not part of your policies?" She asked calmly.
"I had a bad hangover this morning," he simply said in explanation, knowing she would have understood his plight without saying it exactly. And she did.
"You've been drinking?" She asked and he nodded once. "I'm sorry about that. It's okay, but can you tell me the reason you got drunk?" She questioned in a luring tone.
He was about to explain everything to her but stopped and cautioned himself. "Sorry,I have to conceal that," he replied briefly with a smile. You shouldn't know it was you.
"Alright. Miss Abe was here. She cane with the cheque balance of the contract we did. She was impressed and looking forward to doing more business with you in the future. I've given the cheque to the accountant. He knows what to do with it," Joyce expounded.
He smiled broadly. "Okay. Thank you," he appreciated.
"You're highly welcome. I'll take my leave, then," Joyce informed and rose to her feet and started leaving.
James rose too and went to sit on the couch in his office. "Joyce?" He called.
She turned to him. "Yes?"
He looked straight into her eyes and started tapping his left foot on the floor as she planned how she would react at the question he was about to asked her. He had to spill it out anyway. "Do you have plans this weekend?"
She was taken aback by the question and didn't bother hiding it. "Yes,why?" She answered.
"Oh!" He was disappointed. "Of course, you should. Ladies are always busy going on dates every weekend," he muttered to himself but he wasn't giving up just like that. Not until a few more trials. "Can you cancel them?"
"No,why?"
"Please,be frank,Joyce," he pleaded and showed the seriousness in him.
"Just kidding, sir. I've got no plans. I'll be free but why do you ask?" She questioned. He wasn't the type that ask about her whereabout outside work so that made her figure that something was going on in that pretty big head of his. She smiled at the thoughts.
"Here, have your seat first," he offered and stretched to the chair before him and she made no delay in doing as he said.
"It's going to be my mother's birthday and the whole weekend will be used for celebration, starting from Friday night," he commenced.
"Woe! The whole weekend for a birthday?" Joyce exclaimed, not hiding her surprise. Who exactly was his mother? Queen Elizabeth?
"Yes,the whole weekend. She's the type that loves partying and all that and she — No,I want you to be there," he said with all seriousness and courage he could gather. He wouldn't tell her about the girlfriend stuff so that wouldn't scare her off and make her refuse.
"It's okay but why are you so serious about it?" She asked smiling. He only wanted to invite her to a birthday and was acting as someone who wanted to ask his enemy to marry him.
"Does this mean you'll come?" James asked impatiently.
"No," Joyce declared. "My parents must give their consent first. After all, we won't be alone there. There will be a lot of other people," she said.
"I will talk to your parents. Thanks a lot. I'm so grateful," James said with a broad smile.
Joyce smiled too. "You're welcome," Joyce said and went out of his office, wondering why he was acting in an unusual manner.
"How could you be so dumb to let yourself get injured? It doesn't seem to me like you love yourself at all. See how the innocent fingers are bleeding all because of your carelessness,"Joyce nagged as she treated her boss's wound, but refused to spare him a glance. She should just help with the injury, reveal the truth to his parents and leave his life for good. She had some savings from the salary she had earned. Maybe she would just set up her own hair salon. She had learnt the work even before she got admission into the university and she was quite good at it. In fact, very good. But, she had to admit that it would be so hard to forget her boss. She had thought it would be easy not until she saw him now. All the feelings she thought she had buried in her heart resurrected at his sight and even became stronger. She was still head over heels in love with her boss. And that's why she couldn't look him in the eyes now, afraid of what she woul
Joyce got home and started pondering about everything. She should just try to forget everything about her boss and move on. After all, she had submitted her resignation letter. She didn't need to go to work anymore but what would she do now? There is only one option and that is to go out and look for job. Philip, who could have been her other option, was now out of the game, all thanks to her amazing boss.Something popped up in her mind and she was immediately filled with remorse. James's parents. She lied to them. She deceived them, made them believe she was together with their son. She touched the necklace that was given to her by his mother. She had to return that and reveal the truth. She could not bear keeping it from them, especially Mrs. Andrew. She was too nice, although somehow cunning. She made a mental note to visit the Andrews the following day.She exited her room and went to the living room and saw h
"Can you at least hear me out?" James pleaded in a calmer tone. He used a hand to rub his neck and paced a few times before taking Joyce's hand and took her to his living room. She couldn't say anything. All she found herself doing was looking at him go about before settling on the large table at the center of the room before her."Joyce, I really don't know how to explain this to you for you to be really convinced,"he started and met her eyes, but she didn't utter a word so he continued," Vivian and I are just friends. Nothing more. I don't know what she has planted into your head but they are all lies,"he said, and when she opened her mouth, probably to protest, he made her swallow her unspoken words by holding her hands. He must confess,he loved the feeling. "Joyce, I love you," he revealed and watched as her gaze shifted from their hands to his face and he nodded in confirmation that he meant what he said. "I really do
James lifted her chin with his right index finger and made her to look at him while he stared at the luscious twins beneath her nose that were trembling, possibly out of fear.He smiled. "I'll recognize those lips anywhere,"he mentioned and her jaw dropped." But, I'll have to confirm, "his voice came out as a whisper now.Joyce's mouth opened and close more than usual. It seemed she suddenly forget how to talk. She couldn't make words out of her mouth. What was he trying to do? What did he mean by confirming? She was curious.James leaned his head downward slowly with his finger still under her chin. He raised his eyelids to see that she almost had her eyes closed and also leaning toward him, although with hesitation, as if she was unsure about it.Gently, but seductively, his lips touched hers but moved away too quickly. He started acting sluggishly when she suddenly seemed impatient to be connected with
Joyce opened the metal door widely and rushed in. She looked at her boss on his king sized bed and thought he was unconscious. With fear, she climbed the bed and started calling his name. She was beginning to sweat in her palms but as she lifted one of his hands in hers, he made a turn around and rested his bonce on her thighs. She hissed aloud. "Gosh, I thought he's dead. I've forgotten he sleeps like one," she complained to her relief and then pushed him gently to awake him. "James?"No response."Hey, James," she shouted but he could only snuggled closer and circled a hand around her waist. Her mouth formed an 'o' as she exclaimed, "You've got some guts, haven't you?" She uttered as her eyes drifted to where her phone was on the far edge of the bed. She would have to stretch all her body to reach it.James turned with his chest facing up. He was still fast asleep or so she thought.
When he closed at the office, he went home to have a nap. He was very tired but all he planned was a few minutes nap before he would eat and return Joyce's phone. He got to his large living room which has a few painting of his pictures on the walls. The colors of the curtains and chairs are the same which was chocolate brown against the cream colored walls. He dropped his briefcase carelessly on the sofa, took off his suit, tie and shoes and let them assemble on the tiled floor as he walked to his room, almost with closed eyes. He fell softly on his bouncy bed and his planned nap turned into hours of sleep with Joyce's phone in his hand as he sprawled on the bed. Joyce got to his living room burning with anger from what Vivian had told her. She didn't know where she got her address from but she had been there to confirm all her fears and doubts. She wasn't surprised at all. She c
