LOGINThe next morning which was Sunday, Kaye woke up around eight in the morning. She went to the bathroom, brushed her teeth then washed her face to wake up herself completely. After washing her face, she walked toward the refrigerator and took out four eggs, four pieces of ham, a fresh lettuce, a tomato and mayonnaise. She got six loaves of bread and placed all of them on the table.
She looked toward the other room to see or hear any movement. 'I guess he isn't awake yet.' she commented mentally regarding Ivan's room being quiet.
She broke two eggs and put them inside a bowl, added a pinch of salt and pepper to give it a taste. After she mixed them, she soaked the bread on the mixture before frying them in low heat temperature to avoid burning it. She made a scrambled egg for the remaining mixture. After frying the bread and the scrambled egg, she cooked a sunnyside up using the remaining two eggs and also fried the ham right after.
When everything was cooked, she placed a sliced of bread on a clean plate, put a leaf of lettuce on it, two slices of tomato, spread a good amount of mayonnaise, a piece of ham then a tablespoon of scrambled egg. She added another piece of bread, a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato, spread a mayonnaise, a tablespoon of scrambled egg, a sunny side up then another piece of bread. With the remaining ingredients, she made another sandwich.
After she making the french toast sanwiches, she poured a glass of warm milk and sat down. It was very quite so she thought that Ivan was still sleeping. When he walked out of his room, she was stunned and couldn't take her eyes off from him.
He was wearing a simple black jeans from Levi Strauss, a white shirt from Gucci, a black jacket from Zara and he was holding on his hands a pair of black leather chelsea boots from Saint Laurent Wyatt. His hair was just left naturally after combing it. No hair gel or hair wax.
'Why does he look like that when his clothes are plain black and white?' she thought to herself while following him with her line of sight. 'Look who's talking, a person who has a wardrobe of turtlenecks.' argued the other side of her.
"Ahh. This is crazy!" she yelled and put her glass down before realizing she said it aloud.
"Why? What happened?" he asked from where he was standing when he heard her yell.
"Huh? Ahh? I was reading something and it irritates me." she told him and drank the warm milk again. "Going somewhere?" she asked him the obvious just to divert his attention from her embarrassing outburst.
"Hn. I need to buy some things. You need anything?" he put down the shoes and went to the sofa to put on his socks. Seeing him walked around like he has a normal vision made her admire him of his strength and belief in oneself.
She waved her hand to let him know that she has it was nothing, but when she realized what she did, she still opened her mouth and speak, "No, I was just asking." She stood up and walked toward him with the plate of sandwich and her milk. "Eat your sandwich before going out. I don't have coffee here, will hot chocolate be fine?"
"Yes, thank you." he didn't raised his head but continued putting the socks on. She walked back to her fridge and took out some chocolate bars, she added half cup of water and heat it. She looked at him with worry thinking how will this day end for a blind person to go shopping.
"Are you in a hurry?" she asked him again and put the chocolate drink on the table. "You said you would buy some things and I was planning to go to the supermarket as well. If it's not a bother, can we go together?" She didn't really have plan to shop for groceries today, but looking at him she couldn't help but sigh. 'When will you finish buying your stuff? People might take advantage of your blindness!' she yelled at him internally but she was very quiet and composed outside.
"Are you sure? We might take some time." Ivan told her after successfully wearing the socks.
"Which takes more time, you buying alone or you buying things with me?" she didn't really want to say it but her mouth just keeps on blabbering on its own. 'I'm so dead.' but when she saw him smile at her she took a deep breath and exhaled sharply. "I didn't mean it that way..."
"It's fine. I'm actually glad that you could come. I need help on some things."
"That's it then. Wait for me here, I'll just take a quick shower." before he could take back his word, she rushed back to her room, took her bathrobe, dashed to the bathroom, brushed her teeth and took a quick shower.
Ivan could hear her running here and there getting ready for their shopping. He sat leisurely on the sofa while eating the sandwich Kaye made. 'This taste really good. I should really do something to help her.' he nodded to himself when he thought of something that could help really help her.
Kaye pulled a white turtleneck shirt from Burberry and a flowy knee length floral skirt from the same brand. She checked her shoe racks to see anything that could go with it from the same brand, but she could only choose the flat brown slipper shoes from Gucci and a brown sling bag from Gucci as well.
After blow drying her hair, she combed it again and let it down without any ornaments. She put moisturizer on her face and a little lip gloss on to avoid looking pale and dull. Next, she grabbed her phone, wallet, keys and sandals before going out of her room.
Ivan was also done with his food when she ran out. She took it from his hands and put it on the sink. "I'll clean it once we get home. Let's go." She changed her indoor slippers to her sandals and waited for him to finish wearing his shoes.
Once they're out, she locked the door and walked with him to the elevator. The guard saw them emerged from the lift and was shocked, 'Sir Ivan goes shopping with someone now?' It's known to everyone who works for Ms. Harley that her nephew didn't like going out with someone after he became blind.
"Do you want to take a taxi or a bus?" this question confirmed the guard's lingering thought if these two are going out together. What shocked him more was the answer of the man. "Let's take the bus. I want to try it as a blind." The guard didn't know what to say. 'Isn't his driver waiting outside?' To confirm it, he checked outside the gate but there was no driver in sight. 'This master is changing.' with that, he completely ignored them and went back to his room.
Kaye and Ivan was walking on the sidewalk slowly. They look like they're admiring the environment in fact, they're leisurely walking because Ivan didn't bring his walking stick.
"Would you like to shop for clothes? Toiletries? Groceries? I mean, we need to plan where to go so we would not waste more time." Kaye asked him with her eyes on the road but her side vision was on him.
"I don't need new clothing. Let's buy toiletries then groceries."
"Wait. I did ask it but why do you need groceries? We have plenty at home." Kaye was now confused as well.
'Home. It sounds great coming from her.' he smiled with his thought of a home with her. Strange. He thought it was strange for someone like them to become this close. He couldn't hear judgements coming from her or annoyance in her voice. She sounded geniune to a blind man like him.
"We need to buy more groceries. Before it was just you, but now I can't continue freeloading your food."
"Oh. That makes sense." she nodded her head to express her understanding. "Move two steps to your right else you would trip over." she reminded him seeing a hole excavated on his left side.
When they arrived to the bus station, they rode the bus going to the nearest supermarket. It wasn't that big but you can find almost all the things you need.
She took a push cart and guide him to where they can buy toiletries. "Do you want to change your toothbrush?" she asked him when they passed the brush section.
"Yup. I need a spare as well." His hands were on the cart while Kaye checked for good brands he can use.
"Do you have any brand you like and what color?"
"Blue. Just buy whatever brand you're using." answered Ivan to her two consecutive questions.
"Aren't you afraid I have a cheap taste of style and brand and it is not to your liking?" she still asked him though she's holding three blue toothbrushes on her hands from the brand that she likes.
"Base on the fabric of your clothes and your bag, I don't think your taste is cheap." she was about to agree when she realized something off.
"How did you know my clothes are not cheap?" her eyes were wide open and she sounded betrayed.
"I couldn't see but I felt the fabric of your clothes and bag when it brushed my arms. I know a lot of expensive clothes because of my sister." he explained to her to clarify the matter. He didn't know why but when she asked him the question she sounded scared and betrayed.
"I'm sorry for the sudden outburst. I...I really thought you could see." She places the toothbrushes and started pushing the cart with him again. "I did doubt you before. The way walk inside the apartment, the way you wash the dishes, the way you use your phone and other stuff. You don't look like a blind person doing these stuff. I really thought you could see." she told him her thoughts honestly instead of keeping it while looking around for other things they might need.
"Why does it sound like you wouldn't accept me if I could see?" Ivan chuckled lighly. It was meant to be a joke but he was stunned with her response.
"You are right. If you are not blind, you wouldn't be able to live with me under the same roof." She was very straightforward with her answer that he could tell she wasn't kidding at all.
Ivan didn't react to what she said for a while. She continued buying things for him like shampoo, soap, toothpaste and many other things. When they arrived at the towel area he asked her suddenly, "Are you going to shoo me away if one day, I would regain my sight back?"
"Definitely. Didn't you say you wanted to live there because you want to experience the life of a blind person? If you are no longer blind, why would you still stay there? So, you better be not bluffing this whole thing or you will find your things packed and ready to go."
Her response rendered him speechless.
After getting all the toiletries, they didn't speak about their circumstances again. Kaye had now believed that he couldn't really see after Ivan gave his reasons and proof. Two hours later, they got all the things needed including the groceries that they would most likely need in the next 2 weeks. Since she bought some few days ago, Kaye mostly bought vegetables, meat, cold cuts and fruits."Let's proceed to the counter area. I've got everything we need or do you need anything else?" she inquired while pushing the cart towards the cashier. Ivan was walking beside her silently pondering if he forgot something when he stiffened."Babe, should we buy this or this? You can choose whichever you like." the voice sounds sweet like candy. It seemed that the person didn't see him. He clenched his fist on his side and walked again.Kaye noticed that Ivan stopped walking so she turned to face him. He was looking pale and a little upset. She stopped for a moment and

When she went back with two glasses of juice in her hands, he was also walking back to the dining table from the living room after getting his phone."Let's take a seat. I'm hungry." she told him and grabbed her own chair. "We still have sweet and sour fish, just tell me if you want some. I'll grab it for you." she waited for him to sit down before she placed some rice on her plate. She was about to eat her food when she felt awkward eating on her own while the person in front of her was still checking which food was place on which side."Just grab your spoon and fork." she told him then she grabbed his plate to her side and she put rice and the sweet and sour fish fillet on his plate. "Eat this first." she returned the plate back to him so he could start eating."You don't have to do this. I can manage." he said with a little sadness on his voice for being treated like a handicap. Well, he's indeed one but he didn't like being pitied or getting sympathy from an
Kaye woke up at five in the afternoon from being hungry. 'A stomach of a glutton is troublesome.' she thought as she put on her slippers and robe before going outside. The living room was peaceful and there was no one in sight. She was about to turn on the light when she saw a pair of feet. Her heart accelerated and her breath quickened but realization hit her before she could scream.'Goodness gracious. I'll die early because of this guy.' she looked at him lying on the sofa while hugging one of the pillows. When she caught him shivered due to the air condition, she went back to her room, took a clean blanket and draped it over him.'Hey, you're like a wife taking care of his husband.' teased the mischievous side of her brain. 'I'm just being kind. Look at him curling his toes due to cold air.' replied back the kind side of her to herself. She walked to the kitchen and pulled up the blinders a little to let some light in. She opened her fridge and took a
After work, half hour past nine in the morning, Kaye got home safely. She put her coat on the coat rack and changed her boots into slippers."I'm back." she said when she saw her roommate walked out of his room. For no reason, she felt that this apartment is not boring anymore."Welcome home. I ate breakfast already and I left some for you. Just heat it up." he reminded her before taking a seat on the couch with his phone and tablet on each hand.'He isn't using his walking stick anymore?' she asked herself when she observed him walked without the stick tapping on the floor. "You don't really have to bother yourself and you have to stop buying take outs. We have food on the fridge. Nevertheless, I'm still thankful because you save my time.""Did you forget that I can't cook?" he said turning his head so he can face her, though not really seeing her clearly."Oh right. Sorry." she said upon realizing her mistake. She opened the food cover and saw a
As part of her daily routine, Kaye woke up at nine for work. She checked her phone first for any unread messages which would sometimes come from her friends, from workmates or sometimes none at all. That's how boring her life is.With her mind in a mess from grogginess, she went outside of her room and walked directly to the kitchen. When she opened her fridge, she found someone moving in her peripheral vision. She stiffened and slowly closed her fridge."Lord, please help me. I still want to live my life." she whispered while tiptoeing back to her room. She didn't turn on the light earlier since she knows every nook and cranny of her place. She saw the black figure moved toward her. 'Don't come near me. Please go away. Lord please help me!' she was basically yelling internally with her closed eyes. She gathered all her strength and courage before dashing back to her room, locked it and hid under her bed."Lord, don't take me yet. I don't want to die. I d
