  • JUST A KISS   16

Monday.-- Isoken was currently in the classroom where she and Emmanuel had that embarrassing encounter, which was a few months back. She would have loved to reminisce about it, despite it being an embarrassing situation, but now was not the time. She and Emmanuel made plans to meet in this classroom, as her mind kept saying she should tell him personally and so she stylishly prolonged her confession till Monday; even though she could have said it on Saturday while they were still on the call. The call began with pleasantries, before Emmanuel asked about what had been bugging him, it went like this… "Hello…" The sound of his deep but manly voice, made her feel jitters. "Hi…" She was shocked to hear her own self speak without stuttering. "Isoken, how are you?" Whenever he called her

In another part of Asaba, miles away from Isoken's house. A gigantic mansion was standing tall on a particular spot, it was a beautiful sight. This mansion could be easily spotted among all the other beautiful houses located in that area. This was Emmanuel's house. Saturday.--Emmanuel woke-up to the familiar atmosphere at home. His parents were not home again, like every other day. He couldn't say he understood them, when he didn't. At least he had a family that provided for him and checked-up on him every once in a while. They barely interfered with his decisions, which was more than what anyone could ask for. Living your life for others, instead of living for himself was the last thing he wanted. He felt like something was going on with his parents but he didn't know what it was.

Saturday.--Later in the morning; Isoken was seated at the breakfast table with her family, excluding her dad and eldest brother, Ayomi. As she was eating, Femi suddenly called her name. "Yes." She said, then looked at him. "Did you scream last night?" He asked. "No, I was just whispering to myself." Isoken muttered what he had said previously while mimicking him. "Stop it! I don't sound like that." Femi said. *Pak*--Isoken was hit on her shoulder by Mrs Johnson, "Ouch, mom!" "Is that how you talk to your elder brother now?" Mrs Johnson asked. "No," Isoken said while muttering "He's just older than me with a few years, not like Tade and

"Hey there! My name is David." After saying this he smiled, but Isoken didn't reciprocate. She was in a bad mood; She just wanted to be left alone and wasn't ready to talk to anybody. "Isoken." She said her name while removing his hand that blocked her view, then resumed what she was doing. He put his hands together behind his back, as it was evident that she had rejected his hand shake, "So I guess that you aren't a fan of handshakes, eh?" He asked. He looked at Isoken who continued on scribbling, all he received was silence. "Hugger then?" He asked but still received silence as an answer. It was quiet again for a few minutes. Isoken relished this silence because it seemed like nature made her bad mood disappear.&n

Emmanuel seemed to be calling her name, but she couldn't hear anything more than that. She clutched the part of her chest which was also where her heart was located; it was hurting a lot. Ahhh...! Isoken woke up from her dream screaming. She was panting and covered in sweat, the pain she felt from her chest that seemed like it was about to kill her also disappeared immediately. 'Why was her chest in pain?' She wondered. She looked around her bed and discovered a book with a hard back. It happened that she slept off while reading and in the course of her dream rolled on top of the book. The book gave a slight pain to her chest due to resting on it. Just that the dream amplified it, then the brain waves blah...blah...blah...worked their magic, you get the gist.

It turned out to be...a teacher. "Why are you still here?" The unfamiliar, middle aged, woman asked. Isoken didn't recognize her, 'She could be a teacher for one of the junior classes.' "My mom is picking me up late, Ma." "So, you cannot greet me again, I've now turned to your age-mate." The woman said, shouting at her. Isoken was starting to get upset, her mood had also worsened at this point. Although she was in the wrong, that didn't mean the woman had to scold her to correct her, saying it without shouting would have done the job. "Sorry Ma, good afternoon Ma." She said while standing up. The woman smiled and left the classroom to God knows where. &nb
