Chapter 19

>Lucas´s house. Living room. Night<

“I want to thank you all for everything. For fighting beside me. I´ve learned a great deal from you guys. Right now--” Suddenly, there´s a flash of blinding light. Not again!

We prepare ourselves for anything that might happen, as someone materializes before our eyes. “Seven!” I am prepared to defend my pack. “What are you doing here?” Seven drops her knees in genuflect. “I come in peace, First Wolf.” I begin to relax, although I remain warry of her presence. “What brings you here? Did Old Mia send you?” Seven shakes her head. “Old Mia is no longer our leader. The Blood Moon was powerful enough to knock all of us unconscious, except for Old Mia. Once we regained consciousness, some of us, including myself, received a vision of what had transpired between the two of you. So we detained Blind Mia in the deepest dungeons of the Citadel. I have come here to extend an olive branch. We don´t wish to make an enemy of the First Wolf, who is blessed by the Blood Moon.”

“That´s still no reason to trust them, Laura. It simple means that they are fearful of you.” Jack has a point. Although, how can I not give peace a chance? “Stand up, Seven. Seven has come to us, bearing no ill will. Who am I to refuse peace? It´s time that we end this madness. It´s time to end the violence. So many lives have been lost, and for what end? If it wasn´t for hate, for greed, for hunger to become more powerful, none of this would have happened. She who crave eternal life is now dead. She who had a vision of a new world where she reigned supreme is now blind. We will not go down the path that they chose. It´s time to forge a new path. A path where peace has a chance, where life can once again breed hope. The war that was initiated decades ago never really ended. However, it ceases today. I wish there was a way to bring back all of the lives that we have lost. Although we all know that it´s impossible.” “There is one life that we can bring back.” Everyone stares at Seven with surprise. “Who?” Lucas asked curiously. “That´s impossible. No one possesses that kind of power.” Amelia added. “Even if you did manage to resurrect someone, they wouldn´t become back the same.” Jack pointed out. “This is different.” Seven´s eyes glow white. “An ordinary human´s death resulting from a supernatural conflict may be reversed. Granted that they have a powerful anchor within this realm. I´m talking about Robert, Laura.” I stare back at Seven´s white eyes. She´s reading me. “Based on the powerful bond you have with him; we can carry out a ritual to bring him back. He doesn´t have to remain dead. We can rewrite his destiny. We can bring him back.” Momentarily, I am unable to find my voice. “Robert always provided a connection to my previous life. My life before all of this happened. Nolan asked me previously that if there was an opportunity for me to return to my previous life, would I take it? I didn´t know the answer then. I told him that perhaps I´d know the answer when the opportunity is right before me. And now I know the answer. As much as I would like to bring Robert back, I know that it will come at a high price. If I bring him back then I will be no better than Old Mia. I have to draw a line at some point. We can´t just play around with destiny like that. We are no gods.” “I understand where you´re coming from, Laura. And I admire the wisdom you´ve acquired since we last saw each other. I respect your decision.” “Rest assured that this is not due to an ill-will I feel toward your kind.” “Thank you, First Wolf. And with that, I must take my leave.” “Farewell, Seven.” “Farewell, Laura.”

Lucas walks up to me, putting a hand on my shoulder. “I´m proud of you, Laura. You have really grown after all this time. But you still have one decision left to make.”

I give Patrick, Liam and Amelia a look. Patrick then steps up to me. “I know how hard these decisions must be. You don´t have to make the choice right now. Think about it. But once you´re ready. You know where to find me.” Patrick walks away and heads out into the gardens.

Liam then steps toward me, holding my hand. “You do what you have to do, Laura. To choose a mate is not a decision to take lightly. When you finally make up your mind, and there´s a chance that the person you choose is me, then I´ll be waiting for you. Meet me at Brightmoon Lake, then.” Liam gives me a soft smile before turning away and heading out the front door.

“I´m leaving the pack. I´ve realized that perhaps the best way to forge a new path is to go on a path on my own.” I am surprised by Amelia´s decision. But I can´t bring myself to stop her. It is her life after all. “Mely. I hate to see you go. But if that´s your decision, then I will support you.” “Thank you, brother. I´ll just be in my room to pack my things.” She´s about to go when a voice inside me tells me to call out her name. “Amelia.” Amelia stops in her tracks. “You know you´re always welcome to join me.” “You know i can´t just leave the pack.” “I know. I guess this is good-bye then.” Amelia saunters over to me and gives me a warm embrace and I hug her back. “Good-bye, Amelia.” Amelia lets me go and walks out of the living room.

“I guess that´s my cue to leave as well. I wish you luck in all your future endeavors, First Wolf. As much as I want to join your pack, I believe I´m too old for all this shit. It´s time to enjoy my freedom.” “Thank you for your help, Jack.” Lucas moves to clasp his hand. “Thank you, Old Man. I wish you all the best. Don´t be a stranger, though. You are always welcome to visit.” “Thank you, kid. You be good.” Old Man Lobo leaves.

“I guess it´s just you and me in the end, Laura.” I smile at Lucas. “You know it, Luc. Thank you for staying by my side. You do know you are the love of my life, right?” Lucas puts an arm over my shoulder. “Let´s keep it between the two of us, though.” We smile at each other and laugh.

Now I have to make the toughest decision yet. I have to choose which one to take as my mate. So my mate is going to be...

My Thoughts are interrupted by a sudden shake running through my whole body. “Laura? Are you all right?” I´m unable to respond to Lucas. I just stare into his eyes, scared as hell about was is going to happen. I hear Lucas scream in fear.

“Laura!”
