LOGINI look at the three men in front of me clueless. They seem in pain, but I didn’t even touch them. How is this possible? Am I the cause of their struggle?
I have to act quickly. That’s my only chance to run away from them. And I do exactly that, I turn my back to them and start running.
“You aren’t going anywhere, little girl,” I heard one of the men shouting.
I stopped dead in my tracks and turned back to look at them. The men were slowly getting back to their feet like they weren’t in any pain just a few seconds ago.
“Give me the necklace and I promise you that we won’t hurt you anymore.”
“You’ll get my necklace over my dead body,” I said through greeted teeth.
“Give me the damn necklace,” he shouted this time while he pointed me with his gun.
My breath hitched. They had a gun and I was very tired to keep fighting them. I nodded slowly and I signaled them that I would follow their demand. I brought my hands behind my neck and unclutched the necklace. The pendant’s little diamonds shone under the moonlight. A stray tear escaped my eyes and roll down my cheek. I had made a promise never to let go of that necklace. And here was I, miserably failing to protect what was mine.
I extended my hand and gave the necklace to the man in front of me. From what I’ve figured till then he must be the leader of the gang. He grabbed the necklace and brought it closer to his face so that he could value it’s worth. Before he could observe it better, the pendant vanished into thin air, leaving both of us speechless.
“What the fuck?” the man cursed under his breath and gazed me in disbelief.
“Where the hell did it go?” the other man behind him asked.
“I don’t know. Now leave me alone, I kept my end of the deal. It’s not my problem that the necklace vanished,” I tried to act indifferent. I was pretty sure that I would be able to find my pendant, if I made it out alive of this nightmare.
“We are dead if we don’t hand the necklace to Him,” the other man whispered terrified.
“If I’m going to die, I’ll make sure to take that bitch with me,” said the man in front of me giving me a sinister look.
Before I could even realize what I was doing, my fist made contact with his nose and a terrible cracking sound filled the air. The man stumbled back, and I made a run for it one more time. A loud bang was what I heard before a piercing pain made me fall to my knees. I lowered my gaze and noticed a red patch on my jeans.
“That’s your last chance; give me the necklace,” I heard the man shout from somewhere behind me.
“I don’t have it,” I said, my voice below a whisper.
Another gunshot echoed and this time my abdomen hurt like hell.
“That’s for punching me and that’s for almost killing my partners,” he said while the bullet this time pierced through my chest.
My back hit the cold pavement while I desperately tried to breathe. The blood running through my wounds formed a little pool underneath me. I was feeling drowsy. With every passing second, it was harder to breathe. I stared at the twinkling stars unable to hold my tears back. I wasn’t ready to die. Not yet.
“Why did you kill her?” I heard someone ask in the distance.
“He said that if we couldn’t retrieve the necklace, we should kill the witch. This way no one can find it. Now, get up. We must leave before someone calls the police.”
My vision became blurry. My whole body hurt. My eyes finally shut, but instead of darkness, a bright light illuminated a golden path in front of me. I was pretty sure that I should start walking, but my legs were rooted to the ground.
“I’m not ready…” I whispered breathlessly.
“You must be the only one who cried in there,” Ethan remarked as soon as we stepped out of the movie theater.“Next time we go to an adventure movie, make sure that the protagonist won’t die at the end,” I said, wiping the stray tears that rolled down my cheeks with a tissue.“Next time, you’re going to choose the movie,” he sighed.I rolled my eyes at him and headed towards his car. It was like our little routine; we went for dinner and then to th
I vaguely remember that Ethan helped me get inside the car. I told him the address, and he started driving at full speed. The throbbing pain inside my head was getting worse with every passing minute. I was struggling to fight back and not let that witch get inside my head. The chanting kept going, and it was hard to concentrate on Ethan’s questions.“Are you sure you don’t have to go to the hospital?”“Yeah, just drive me to the address I gave you. My grandpa would know what to do.”
“Ophelia,” I heard him whisper, and he grabbed my arm to pull me towards him. I turned around perplexed, and before I even know it his lips were on mine…Our lips locked, and despite the many men I’ve kissed before, this felt different. It was like a million butterflies were flying inside my stomach. My limbs went numb, and I brought my arms around his neck. He bit my lower lip; the gasp that escaped my lips gave his tongue the perfect opportunity to enter my mouth, explore it. I tried my best to keep up with his rhythm and held back the moans that were about to escape my lips. His one hand roamed freely on my back, while his other intertwined between my dark locks.
The next day, I was super nervous. It’s not like I haven't been on a date before, but it's been ages since the last one. I was so consumed by my work, that my private life, or to put it better, my love life was nonexistent. Work did its magic again; hence my morning passed by quick. During my lunch break, I gave Ethan a phone call, and we agreed to come and pick me up from my house at eight-thirty.After work, I went straight to the gym to cool off a bit. Once home, I had a relaxing bath and then started getting ready. I paid extra attention to my hairstyle and makeup. The most difficult part was finding something to wear. Although I had a wardrobe full of clothes, nothing seemed appropriate to me. That’s why I called Izzie for he
Life at university was even better from high school; parties with alcohol, dance, and many hot guys. It was pretty much the definition of what young adults considered as paradise. I went into parties, got drunk sometimes, although my high tolerance on alcohol made it really difficult, I had numerous hot make-out sessions with sexy guys. And that was all the fun I had during Friday and Saturday nights.Because the other days of the week, I was the definition of a nerd. I attended all my classes, read a lot until late at night, went to the gym, and practiced so I can keep my shape. Some afternoons I went to help with the service at my family's restaurants, so I could earn some extra pocket money. In my free time, I painted and joined a club for aspiring young artists. Sundays were devoted to my family; I went to visit them, and we had lunch or dinner all together.Mom started to make amends with the fact that I would be a Police Officer, or she believed that maybe my stu
Christopher was two years older than me and back then I was so grateful for that. He was the first one to experience everything in our family; he was the first one to graduate from high school, the first one who applied for college and got accepted. And not in any college; he got accepted to study Medicine in one of the best Medical Schools of the country. I couldn’t be prouder for him.He studied really hard and gave his best self to achieve what he wanted; it was admirable. Chris chose his future career because he wanted to be able to help other people in need; he wanted to fight cancer and save humans from dying. I looked up to him, but at the same time, I realized I wanted to do something completely different.
