For the past twelve years, I grew up without a father. Truth be told, that's what I thought was normal. So, you can imagine my surprise when I figured out that my mom was in love. She was radiating, and her happiness was somewhat contagious. I wanted what's best for her, and if David, her new boyfriend, makes her happy, then I'm content, too.I sat on the bench at the school’s yard, during the lunch break. It was a rather hot and sunny day, despite being the last days of November. I was supposed to meet with Izzie, my best friend, but I guess something stalled her. I wanted to keep my thoughts away from my mom's personal life, for a moment. That's why my mind flew back to the day I met Izzie almost two years ago.

I couldn’t believe what Chris had just said. My breath hitched at the back of my throat, my face turned red, not from embarrassment but anger. No one had never dared to call me like that. He looked at me with a satisfied smirk plastered on his lips, and all I wanted to do was to wipe it off his face. My mouth opened to say something, but my mother beat me to it.“Chris, welcome! Please come in. I see you met, my daughter, Ophelia,” my mom said, unaware of what that little punk called me a few seconds ago.“Thank you, Ms. Tramell. I had a lot of questions, but my mom or my grandparents explained to me all I wanted to learn.Throughout the centuries each supernatural kind organized its communities and set its laws. That night I slept as soon as my head hit the pillow. For once, it was a dreamless sleep, and I woke up the next morning very refreshed. A bright light was illuminating the room from the slightly opened curtain, and I guessed it was going to be a sunny day. I looked at the sofa and noticed that Chris wasn't lying there. I checked around me once more, and that’s when I heard the bathroom door opens. Chris strolled out and raised his eyebrows when he noticed me sitting on the bed.“Good morning! You’re awake!” he said, his voice laced with enthusiasm.“'Morning. Did you sleep well?”
