Destiny

Destiny had rushed from school to the gas station to review who was working and might look for changing out their schedule so she could get more hours. She’d brought in her book bag so that she could start on her school work before her shift; as soon as she entered the building she found an empty stall and threw her bag onto the table with a loud thump. She’d leaned back and stretched in the seat. It was a long day at school and she was rather behind in her studies at this point.

Thankfully, she had a few minutes before work to catch up on some of her homework. She would also finish up the reading as she fixed supper once she got home. That was another thing, talking to her boss about an advance in pay for food for them and Devon.

She pulled out her homework and with a long sigh began on it. It’s not that the work itself was hard, but there was so much of it to do and as the year progressed on became all the more tedious. She closed her eyes briefly as she daydreamed about holding Devon close and ravishing in his green eyes.

She had drifted away in her studies and daydreams that she didn’t realize that her Aunt Jo had come in and snuck up behind her. She crept into the stall behind her and rested her head on the seat looking over Destiny’s shoulder.

“You know,” she said after about 5 minutes or so. “There is osmosis, then there’s just fantasizing. Which one are you partaking on today, Little Dove.”

Destiny nearly jumped out of her seat, knees banging on the table and she blushes embarrassed apologizing quietly to the others around her who turned to see what caused the ruckus.

“Jo,” she said startled trying to get her heart to start racing. “I thought you were out of town.”

Jo shook her head and smiles reaching over to pull stray hair out of her face and behind her ears. Destiny closed her eyes enjoying the gentle touch.

“I was, but I’m back,” she said softly to Destiny. “I can’t stay away from my favorite niece and great nephew.”

She took a long sigh and looked at Destiny shaking her head. “I can’t believe you made me an Aunt so young, child.”

She leaned forward and kissed her forehead. “But no matter,” she said reassuring. “Auntie Jojo is here. Speaking of, what happened to you having today off. I went by the apartment and no one was there. Not even Dom.”

Destiny shrugged. “Mrs Wong has Dev and I got out of class early and came here to pick up some hours and catch up on some work.”

Destiny’s tone changed ever so slightly as she thought about where Dominic was and why he wasn’t at home. He was normally at home resting or sleeping when she got home. Features of her face flexed as she mulled over what Jo had said about nobody being there.

Jo noticed this changed and pulled her chin up to have Destiny look at her directly.

“Destiny Ann, what is going on?” She asked quickly.

Destiny tried to shake her head and pull back, but Jo had a tight hold of her chin.

“Nothing,” she said with a much softer reply. Yet, her eyes lied against that word.

Jo gave her a look that Destiny knew that she couldn’t just deny for a long time. It was her “I’m about to...”.

“It’s Dominic,” she said finally. “He’s acting differently. Has been for the past couple of days.”

“Well,” Jo said, letting go of Des’ chin. “You both are new parents. You just moved into a new place. I think it may be that he’s starting to feel the stress of being a new, young parent.”

Destiny shook her head slightly. “Not, Dominic. This is not like him. When he’s stressed he zones out to music. This is more like my dad’s behaviour when a court case isn’t going well. Irritable, hostile, and lack of respect for anyone.”

She pauses and looks around briefly. “It’s kinda scary. He slammed the door as he left this morning so hard it woke Dev up.”

Jo cocked her head to the side and shook it. “Well, I can’t honestly say, unless something has gotten under his skin that he can’t let go.”

She looked to her niece and pulled a stray hair from in from of her face behind her ear. Now mind you, I’ve never been a parent, other than helping raise you, but raising a kid is a big job. You guys are still ‘kids’ yourself.

She raised her fingers to emphasis kids. She lifted Destiny’s chin up with a finger to bring her daydream gaze to her own line of sight.

Things will work out, she said promisingly. You just have to give time for the puzzle pieces to fall in place. You’ve got the outline partially put together, now work on the inside. You’ve got this kid. You’ve got a big heart. A loyal heart. A strong head on your shoulders. Hey! You’ve got the best damn Auntie on the Earth.

Destiny lowered her eyes, even if she’d have preferred to lower her head. She gave a light chuckle. Part of that is right.

DestinyDestiny leaned against the frame of the doorway that lead into her father's home office. She raised her head to look down the hallway anticipating someone coming down it, but only shadows filled empty spaces that furniture, pictures, and vases did not preoccupy. She took several shuddering breathes to hold back an onset of emotions that lay waiting at the surface ready to explode at a moment's notice. Strained and angered voices could be heard in the office behind her even if they we're trying to retain some modicum of professionalism. She wondered why her mom wasn't home and where she could be. It was bizarre that she wasn’t home this late in the day. There was a loud thud and cursing in the office that had her quickly turning around to see the cause. Her personal attorney and father, a lawyer and statesman himself, arguing and Stephen sliding across the floor towards her. You couldn’t see from the front entrance any part of the house with all the trees that were place on the property. Once they got further along the drive the outline of the house was starting to become more apparent. The house itself, was not a house. It was more like a an olde english castle on the edge of a large city. Its architecture was magnificent in its own way. With the high arched steeples on either corner and curved, colorful plated windows in the front of the house and else where. But what made it such a modern palace was the three to two to even a single car garage randomly placed on the back and side of the house. From the looks of it, the living quarters were in the front of the house and upstairs, because the back and part of one side of the place was garage and parking spaces and lots of trees and shrubbery. It could almo

Jaxon and DestinyThe rain had finally stopped as they walked down the damp sidewalks stepping out onto the foggy streets. Destiny had pulled the camera out of the back of the van before they got in Jaxon’s ’65 jet black Shelby Mustang and headed to their destination. He still hadn’t told her what the phone call was about and she was becoming quite flustered. Looking over at him for the final time she decided to confront him about the call. “So are you finally going to tell me what we are going to be doing?” she asked hesitantly. He glimpsed over at her grinning evilly as he looked back at the road. “Wondered when you were going to ask me that question.” He looked again over at her quickly several times to see the pout upon her face from his smart aleck remark. &

He knew she was good at writing her deepest thoughts and ideas vividly describing anything and everything. That journal, there was something about it, he just looked back with his photographic memory, he knew that there was something that she was holding back. He knew it had to be her emotional pain she was holding onto. She just wanted to spill her guts out and let all the pain and torture that she had been going through out. There was no possible way that she could do it, especially since she didn’t know him that well. She still ceased to trust him.He looked at the clock on the wall realizing that thirty minutes had passed; it was time for him to call Sean and inform him of how the meeting went. It was the usual routine, Destiny would leave and he would wait to make sure that she had enough time to leave to call Sean and infor
