Was the Liu Family’s third master not Liu Longting?

My painting from last night was stolen after all. Who would have thought that the painting would result in a marriage proposal for Liu Longting?

I was just regretting not marrying Liu Longting at the start after listening to Jiao’er, so I should be pretty angry that someone was there to snatch my husband away. However, I was actually feeling very amused thinking that the Liu Longting that was always showing off his masculinity and his chauvinistic ways was being proposed to by a girl. If he was there in person, even I would be embarrassed in his stead.

“Huang Sanniang, what bullsh*t master do you have this time? You want my third brother? Let’s disregard your status for now. If your master is interested in my third brother, get her to come here herself. Surely she’s not some third-rate skank of a sage.”

Facing Liu Lieyun’s ridicule, Huang Sanniang did not get angry. Instead, she replied with even more gusto, “My cultivation might not be as high as yours, but my new master is a sage that was conferred a title directly by Nurhaci, the first Khan of the Later Jin dynasty himself. She was even an imperial consort who handled palace affairs, so she’s definitely suited to your family.”

“It seems she indeed has some merit to her. No wonder even the dog she feeds is so ferocious. Go back and tell your master that my brother has no interest in some woman who has been an emperor’s toy.”

Just as Liu Lieyun finished what she had to say, a strong gust of wind suddenly blew through the front door. A young girl adorned with flower petals on her head walked in carrying a thin and long bamboo pole. She guided a majestic floating palanquin in which was carved with dragons and phoenixes.

Huang Sanniang and the group she brought with her scurried aside to make way. The palanquin stopped in front of the Liu family’s main hall and halted facing Liu Lieyun. Out came a lady with her hair decorated with pearls and jade. There was a veil covering her face, adorning clothes akin to a woman from the Qing dynasty, and looked to be around 25 or 26 of age. If not for the people around me, I would have thought that I had teleported into an ancient chinese drama.

“Big Sister, please don’t be mean to me. Last night I accidentally stumbled upon the third master’s painting and I was immediately infatuated with your brother. Could big sister please play the matchmaker, and consent to our marriage.”

I wanted to laugh at Liu Longting earlier, but looking at how fast this girl moved, coupled with the fact that she seemed to be quite good looking. Her status was even higher than the Liu Family, yet she was still willing to humble herself when talking to Liu Lieyun, calling her big sister. D*mn, this girl could meet anyone’s parents and gain their favor!

Liu Lieyun saw how courteous the girl was and mellowed out as well. She called her imperial consort and told her Liu Longting was currently a criminal and could not marry.

“If he’s currently unable to marry, I’m willing to wait for him. All I wish for is that you give us a chance. If we manage to tie our two families together through marriage, then we would hold power over more than half of the northeastern sages.”

Liu Lieyun did not put much thought to what the girl had said. Instead, she glanced at me and thought for a while before replying, “This matter is not one that I can decide myself. How about this... I’ll discuss with my brother today and if he’s willing, the Liu family will prepare betrothal gifts and send them straight to your residence.”

The girl nodded her head in agreement, but before she stepped into her palanquin, she suddenly recalled something and turned around toward Liu Lieyun. She dropped her voice a little and said, “Last night I saw Liu Longting being intimate with his shaman on the bed. Big sister, you should be careful. If anyone else sees it, Longting’s future could be affected.”

I did not know if this girl deliberately wanted me to hear it, since she said it next to Liu Lieyun’s ear yet I could hear them. I felt awkward for a while because it was as if I had ruined Liu Longting’s future. Liu Lieyun also had an awkward expression on her face and told the girl she would take note of it.

When the large party finally departed, Liu Lieyun told me to continue eating. She then went and looked for Liu Longting to discuss the matter.

I no longer had an appetite after what happened. I really wanted to eavesdrop on Liu Lieyun to see what she would say to Liu Longting, but I did not dare to; all I could do was sit idly in the hall. When I saw Longteng pushing a small car in front of me, I pulled him over and asked what kind of women his third brother liked. Would his brother like the woman who visited?

Even though Longteng was the same age as Jiao’er, he was not as intelligent or mature as her. He had his toy car on one hand and used the other to rub away some snot that was dripping out his nose. He said, “Third Brother likes the small and cutesy types, and doesn’t like those that are stronger than him. Also, whoever Longteng doesn’t like, Third Brother won’t like either.”

“Then Longteng did you like the girl from just now?” I asked him.

“Nope.”

Hahaha! I was unable to hold back my laughter. I acted a bit like a gossip and told Longteng how pretty the girl was. Then after hesitating for a bit, I shyly asked Longteng, “Then do you like me? See, Big Sister Jing even bought toys for you to play.”

Longteng sniffled again. Even with snot dripping out of his nose, he still looked cute. I took out a tissue to wipe it, and he fixed his eyes on me. They were a bit like Liu Longting’s but were a lot more innocent than his. He said naively and innocently, “I don’t like you, Big Sister Jing. You’re too ugly.”

I almost took that tissue I used to wipe his nose to stuff it in his cute little mouth, but I had more class than that. I told Longteng to go play by himself, not wanting to hear him call me ugly anymore.

Liu Lieyun’s conversation with Liu Longting took more time this time round. The lights were still shining bright even after I finished my dinner and headed back to my room. Even though my room was next to Liu Longting’s, I could not catch anything they were saying. Sigh… Looking at the bed that Liu Longting and I were messing around in last night, I recalled what that woman said to Liu Lieyun earlier. If that could really affect Liu Longting’s future, does that mean he would not want me in the future?

The whole night, my mind was busy sifting through all the worst-case scenarios. If Liu Longting really wanted to marry then he should just do it. He and I did not have much of a future anyway. If he makes a decision now, at the very least it would be before my feelings could deepen, so it would not affect me that much.

I put the lights out and went to bed soon after. At midnight, I suddenly heard rustling next to my bed. I jumped in fright, wondering what had come in and used my phone to illuminate my surroundings. What I saw was a big snake about half a meter in thickness with its head raised next to my bed. It opened its mouth and said, “Put on your clothes quickly, we’re leaving. You’re quite cold-hearted, aren’t you? I’m about to be married off to someone else and you can still sleep so soundly. Have I been too good to you? Pack up quick, we’re going.

Listening to what he had to say, I did not know why but I was momentarily speechless. Seeing as he was rushing me, I did not think too much and hurriedly put on my clothes before asking him where we were headed.

“Back to your house. Where else?” Liu Longting said. He asked me to get onto his back and crawled out of the window, bringing me into the moonlit forest outside.

The moonlight pierced through the leaves, casting a motley of shadows on Liu Longting’s pure white body. I asked Liu Longting why we were leaving so soon. Did he not plan to spend the new year at home?

Liu Longting looked at me as if I was an idiot as he stopped and asked, “If you’re fine with me marrying that girl, then we can go back right now.”

Holy f*ck, was Liu Longting bringing me back so early just to test my feelings?

I felt a sudden warmness in my heart, and quickly pet his head saying it was fine and that we should just go home.

Hearing what I said, Liu Longting continued downhill. As I lied on his back, I asked him, “Liu Longting, is it too late to say I want to marry you instead of being your shaman?”

Before he could answer, a very strong wave of animal smell suddenly wafted by us. Dozens of yellow weasels suddenly surrounded Liu Longting and I. One weasel that was bigger than the night ran right in front of us and transformed into the woman that visited in the afternoon, Huang Sanniang!
