A week ago, Philipp had called John and told him that he was ready to return to the company. Philipp would now have had enough time to think about how things should go on for him. But he didn't want to talk to John about this delicate matter in the company, but on neutral ground, where there was a relaxed atmosphere and where neither would be exposed to stress or distraction from the company.

For this reason Philipp invited his brother to go skiing in Jasper this weekend. Both were excellent skiers, one of the few things they shared in common. The snowfall had started quite early this year, so the conditions for helicopter skiing were just ideal.

Even though John didn't actually have time to ski, there was no way he wanted to turn down Philip's request.

He urgently needed Philipp in the company so that he could finally concentrate on research again. Perhaps it was really good that he had a physical distance from the pending problems of the company. In the past few months there hadn’t been a weekend that John hadn’t spent at the company.

As so often before, he thanked God that he had found in Pamela a woman who understood his problematic situation at the moment.

Not once had she blamed him or pouted for not having time for her. John was genuinely grateful for her patience and insight. During this difficult time in particular, she had proven that she was 100% committed to him.

With so many troubles going on, the journey had passed faster than John had expected. But it was also due to the fact that at this hour the streets were still pretty empty and John was making fast progress.

Philipp had already booked the helicopter for the late morning, so John had to be at the landing site by 11:00 a.m. at the latest.

But if the traffic kept going as well, he would be there much earlier now. In the higher elevations, the snow had not melted away. It now covered the rising landscape like a thin, white fluff. The closer he got to Jasper now, the thicker the snowpack became.

Japser was not necessarily a dreamy wintry place as one is used to from other mountain villages. The street was lined with a sober row of houses that was not very idyllic.

The ski area in the middle of the national park was awesome. In the past, John had often been here with Philipp. They took the helicopter up to a mountain peak, where they enjoyed a three-four-hour descent.

John doubted that the fun of yesteryear would still come up today. He was much more interested in what Philipp would suggest regarding his return to the company.

If Philipp found out that in his absence there was not only no progress with the slimming pill, but that the RVN3 project was suspended at all for a moment, that would not necessarily contribute to the joy of reunion.

John drove slowly up the serpentines of the mountain road. The snow had wrapped the conifers in a thick coat, so that the branches with their heavy load hung down quite low.

The clouds of the heavily overcast sky did not let a single ray of sun through. Dark, almost threatening, they covered the mountain peaks. It looked like it would start snowing again soon.

In John there were justified doubts as to whether it would make sense in this weather to actually pull through this approx. John and Philipp weren't the youngest anymore. Besides, John didn't feel particularly fit after the hot night with Pamela.

The ski season hadn't really started yet. The inns, as if scattered around the area, looked pretty deserted. The ski lifts were also not yet operational. At regular intervals, the T-bar lift bars swung like crosses on the thick steel cables. The area gave an extremely deserted and slightly morbid impression, which did not have a particularly positive effect on John's already troubled mind.

Right off the bat, John had found the new landing stage for the helicopters. He parked his jeep next to Philip's old Aston Martin. When he got out of the car, Philip came running up to him.

John was surprised to find that Philip's hair was cut. The pomadized ponytail had been his very special trademark for many years. But now he wore the same short haircut as John.

"Hello brother! Here you are at last. I thought I'd have to file a missing person report, ”he greeted John with a smile and hugged him. Then he took off his sunglasses and John stared at him a second time in disbelief.

"You are amazed, aren't you?" Philipp continued and tapped his finger on his formerly cross-eyed eye.

John felt a little offended. The changed appearance of his brother and the unexpectedly warm welcome shook John a little.

"Hi Philipp. Where has your silver eye gone? ”He asked astonished. “I thought this muscle contraction was irreparable.”

“Yes, I thought so too, until I met a surgeon in Johannesburg who used a certain laser technique to solve my problem. It wasn't completely safe, because the chances were 50 to 50. But as you can see, I caught the half-full glass. ”

“ And where has your other trademark gone? ”

Philipp ran regretfully through his short hair.

“Slowly it was time to say goodbye to the youth. My braid was, so to speak, the first concession to the advancing age. ”

While the two brothers were having a cup of coffee in the small coffee shop, John voiced his concerns about the weather.

The general assembly then went completely different from the way Philipp had imagined. The unexpected setback that the monkey died in the test phase just before the shareholders' meeting destroyed all of his hopes. Now there was no way to escape the Mafia's stranglehold. If he wanted to stay alive, he had to do whatever they asked of him. And Pamela didn't hold back long after the change was due.As an enterprising woman, Pamela knew exactly what she wanted. It was also in their interest that RNV3 should go into production as soon as possible. So Pamela had hatched a diabolical plan that lived up to her evil character. After the terrible scandal during the general assembly, the time was extremely favorable to take Philipp out of the company and send him to a diving station. Due to Philip's sudden failure, as sole managing director, John should quickly have got into trouble to continue the company profitably. Pamela had expected a rapid decline in business, so that John w

  • The Clever Girl   The study

In the course of the next few weeks, Philipp had more and more trust in Pamela. He told her about the problems in the company, the study that was commissioned, and the vast sums of money the research devoured. In this context, he had also told her about the problems with his brother and that he had no idea how difficult it was to raise this money, when the company was nowhere near as much as the research was currently devouring. And investors were in short supply anyway. In addition, the banks did not want to grant any more credit increases. On the contrary, they were even considering calling the loans due if the necessary progress was not made soon.Without being aware of it, he had given Pamela exactly the information she wanted. Pamela had made it appear as if she wanted to help Philipp out of a tight spot and offered him a change in the amount of the loan amount to cover the loan. Seen in this way, he would have been creditworthy again and more time could have been given t

  • The Clever Girl   Other woman

Philipp had deliberately dropped into the snow and was waiting. He could still take out the radio and warn John. Or he simply failed to raise his ski pole and wave that the signal for the two explosives experts was to detonate the dynamite to set off the murderous avalanche. The two men had already been looking for the right places yesterday where the greatest possible exit was guaranteed. They now lurked hidden behind a protruding rock and watched Philip with hawk eyes. Philipp had no choice, he had to sacrifice his brother for his own life. With incredible effort, he raised his stick and waved it. Immediately afterwards the earth began to shake and a tremendous thunder and rumble filled the mountains.A huge slab of snow had come loose and was moving at high speed straight towards John. But John reacted immediately and drove rapidly down the mountain. Philipp watched John's shot drive tense. Without realizing that he was screaming, he cheered on his brother vi

  • The Clever Girl   Last prayer

“Do you think that it really makes sense to do the descent in this weather?”“You don't need to worry. According to the last weather report, the weather remains stable. The pilot also confirmed to me that it would not start to snow, "said Philipp soothingly.“There should be great powder snow in the upper half of the descent. The route is new and only opened up last year. It leads through a wonderful area. I hope you are rested and in good shape, because this descent is really only for experts. ”John nodded confidently, although he wasn't really sure whether he would be fit today. But he didn't want to show himself naked in front of Philip and appear weak."Who else is there?" Asked John."Nobody, just you and me.""Isn't it a little dangerous when only the two of us are on the road?""Come on, where is your sense of adventure?" Replied Philipp challengingly. "We're not wimps, we're real men," he continued euphorically and patted John encou

  • The Clever Girl   Research work

The shareholders had considered John's concerns to be justified and decided against trying the drug on people. The side effects had to be reduced to such an extent that there was no danger to life and permanent damage was also excluded. After the session ended, a heated argument broke out between the two brothers. John had thrown Philipp's incompetence and greed for profit at the expense of others, while Philipp had described his brother as a coward, procrastinator and fearful rabbit, whose willingness to take risks was zero. Philipp was fed up with being put off all the time, while other companies were a lot further with the development of the drug. He wanted to finally get results and not just watch as vast amounts of company money were pumped into research that was unable to finally develop an efficient drug. Here he had met John at a sore point, because he was only too aware of how much money this project cost and how much his meticulous work was thrown back again an
