View MoreJamie's head was really pounding. He had a great time at the club but he didn't expect the hangover to be so bad. After dropping off a woman he had no recollection of her name at her apartment, he decided that some coffee would help in clearing his mind.
He stepped into a cafe called Lucid and he was happy it wasn't overly crowded. He didn't have the time nor patience to wait for his coffee.
"Good afternoon sir! What would you be having?"
The chirpy voice made his head hurt for a minute. He took a few seconds to compose himself as he massaged his temple.
He looked up and found a waitress in an apron with a bright smile waiting to take his order.
"I'll just have a coffee. Black"
"Anything else?"
"No" he answered a bit sharper and quicker than he intended.
He was really stupid for going clubbing with his best friend Eli.
Eli always took drinking to another level.
But after breaking up with Ashley, his former girlfriend. He thought he might have needed it a bit.
And his guy friends wanted a victory party. They would make any excuse up to drink. And his breakup with Ashley was a perfect excuse.
Ashley and Jamie dated for a little over two years. Their parents were elated about their relationship. They thought they were endgame. But they were wrong. Jamie hated the fact that he was being forced to be with Ashley.
And having parents who felt like they had to influence or be a part of every aspect of Jamie's life didn't make things easy for him.
They tried to set him up with almost every and any girl they deemed was on his level. He didn't really mind when his parents introduced him to Ashley because it wasn't unusual for them to introduce him to young unmarried women.
She was gorgeous and also the daughter of a politician like Jamie's father was. Jamie didn't mind. They had their fun for the first few weeks. Their few moments of bliss.
Well that was until she started showing her true colours. Demanding.
Ashley and Jamie's relationship slowly turned from a happy relationship to a toxic relationship. Ashley suddenly became a very demanding person, she chose to ignore Jamie's feelings or privacy and made his life a living hell when he denied her anything or even the slightest bit of attention.
It was a complete mystery that their relationship lasted for two years, even his friends weren't fans of Ashley.
He never said anything about marriage to her but then Jamie found out she was planning their supposed wedding behind his back because his mother insinuated that Jamie might get married to her.
When Jamie finally "grew enough hair on his balls" like Eli his friend would say and broke up with her, She blew up.
And spilled all about how he ruined their future. He was more than dazed hearing that. He knew some girls were sneaky but Ashley deserved an Oscar for the stunt she pulled off. Planning their wedding behind his back thinking their family would emotionally blackmail him into marrying her.
Thinking about it all just made him wish that he could get another drink. He had to turn off his phone since he was already receiving several calls from his family and Ashley in particular about their untimely breakup.
Jamie stayed in the cafe minutes after he had finished his coffee. Watching people go in and out of the bar with a cup of coffee on their hands or just sitting down and enjoying their coffee.
He felt his stubble and decided that must have looked unkempt. After the wild night he had, he went home with a woman whose name he couldn't remember and he had to drop her off back at her place early in the morning. He didn't have time to properly dress up or shave.
He didn't even take a shower, he just rushed to get her out and got in the first cafe he saw before he fell asleep on the wheels.
He would never admit it to his guy friends but he was a pretty light drinker. He didn't want them to see him as girly or something. He knew how much fun they were going to make of him if he told them he was a light drinker. So anytime his friends wanted to go out for drinks, He avoided it as much as he could since his hangover could last for a whole day.
He looked around the cafe. Everyone was busy with someone or the other. He spotted a lady in a corner. She looked like one of those really nerdy girls Jamie used to know back in high school.
She was wearing a frilly black dress and a light pink cardigan over it. She has raven black hair that was in a cute messy ponytail. She was wearing large glasses that was covering half of her entire face.
He chuckled as he saw her gasp and her eyes went wide. She was really engrossed with the book in her hand.
Jamie had seen his fair share of pale women in his life but the girl had a smooth porcelain complexion that reminded him of Fine China. She was so pale he could see the red tinge in her cheeks all the way from his table.
Her complexion was almost powder white.
She starter laughing and Jamie fell in love with how cute her laughter was. He didn't know what she was reading but he knew no book could get his attention for that long.
When was the last time he read a book?
Probably during college because he couldn't remember.
Her laugh was beautiful to watch and pleasant to listen to. Her cheeks looked apple bright red from just laughing. She was cute. Very cute. Her lips were plump and dark. Like a cherry's.
Jamie couldn't stop watching her. Her facial expressions were so interesting to watch. The waitress came up again.
"Sir, do you need anything else?" she asked, looking a bit impatient.
"No. Thank You"
"If that will be all Sir, some people are waiting for a table....."
She didn't finish but he knew whats she meant. Jamie had finished his coffee and paid for it, a few people on the other hand were waiting for a table.
He nodded his head. "Sure."
He paid and left the table. Heading straight to the nerdy girl's table.
He didn't even realise what he was doing as he slipped into the seat right across hers. She looked mortified for a few seconds before her sweet face relaxed into a smile.
Jamie flashed her a disarming smile. Eli always called it the million bucks smile. It was the smile girls couldn't resist.
She stared at him. Long and hard with ice blue eyes. Jamie had never seen a blue so intense and it was like staring at two mini ice glaziers.
"Hi. I'm James. I hope you don't mind me sharing your table. I got kicked out of mine"
She shrugged. "That's fine with me."
She had a tiny little gold necklace with a beautiful pendant and it looked so dainty on her creamy neck.
"So what are you reading?"
She smiled and shrugged.
"Morgan Cresswood. Just a romance novel. It's a funny one though"
"Tell me more" he didn't really care about the novel in all honesty, he just wanted to hear her talk.
Her eyes lit up as she heard his statement.
"Well, it's about this guy who falls in love with an alien. But the girl is a spy sent to see if earth was conducive enough for aliens of their breed to stay there. So she's torn apart from doing her duty or falling in love."
"That is pretty cool. Sounds better as a movie though."
He said as he relaxed in his seat.
"So what is a pretty girl doing here alone on this beautiful morning"
Nerdy girl shrugged.
"I was supposed to meet up with a friend but she had other plans"
He nodded his head slowly. "I didn't get your name."
She raised an eyebrow.
"I never told you."
"But it's Cherry" she added slowly.
His eyes widened. Well that was a pretty convenient name.
"Very nice. You don't hear that kind of name often. It's unique"
Cherry shrugs.
"My parents love unique names. My elder sister is named Apple. Apparently they thought it'll be cool to name us after fruits. I'm just happy my Mum didn't let my Dad make my first name America like he wanted."
Now that got Jamie chuckling.
Cherry laughed along too. Jamie noticed that her laughter was cute, not the fake high pitched laughter that his ex girlfriend Ashley was accustomed to giving.
"America would have been a cool name."
She looked down shyly.
"It's actually my middle name. Cherry America Watson"
"Woow! What's your sister's"
Jamie braced himself for the worst.
"Apple Roseanne Watson"
"Hey that's not bad. Why was yours different?"
"My sister was named after my Grandma. She died months before she was born."
"Well. I'm sorry about your Grandma."
"It's okay."
He checked his watch. He had to meet up with Eli later in the day.
"Well. Nice to meet you Cherry. I gotta go."
Cherry smiled.
"Okay bye" she gave a small wave.
Jamie stood up for a while, hastily debating in his head whether or not he should get Cherry's number. She seemed like a pretty nice and beautiful girl but Jamie wasn't sure he was looking for anything serious at the moment.
He decided to leave, if he met her again, then he would ask for her number.
He knew it could be impossible, the chances of them meeting again were very slim.
"Cherry. Hey!! You should be back from work now? How about dinner this night?"Jamie asked and her heart skipped a beat. She didn't know he was so serious about it. It had been a few days since the wedding and she didn't expect him to really mean it about dinner."Sure. I would love to." She replied with her voice a little chirpy than normal."Cool. I will pick you up at eight. Wear something casual." He said before ending the call. What did he mean by wear something casual? She asked herself as she didn't quite understand that. She decided that whatever word Jamie used didn't matter since he was at
"Hey!! Cherry how are you doing?" he asked with a heartbreakingly handsome smile and she smiled back shyly, slightly surprised that he somehow remembered her name and her face. He didn't look like the kind of man who kept track of faces or names."I'm very well, thank you. It's nice to meet you here James. Do you know the Groom or the bride?"James shrugged. "The groom. Tobias and I come from the same inner circle. Plus he's a business associate. He can be annoying as hell though.""Well, I don't know him personally. I'm kind of a friend of the bride."Cherry explained and James nodded along as he slipped into the empty seat next to her.
Cherry never knew Dana that much. She was just her older sister Apple's friend. Nothing more. But Cherry knew she must have been really desperate to replace her as her bridesmaid last minute. She was even more lucky Cherry agreed. Cherry wanted to spend her weekend quietly reading romance novels but a wedding wasn't too bad either. She pulled the bridesmaid dress she was wearing. It was about two sizes small, it was the former bridesmaid's dress. She looked at herself again in the mirror. Her boobs were pushed up and almost bursting from the thin lavender silk. The dress fell in soft silk and gently wrapped around her figure but it was way too small for Cherry.Since it was almost three sizes small it was also tight. Cherry wondered if the former bridesmaid was a size six.She started to reg
