Sensing the noises coming from the backroom. He skulked to where the fuse box was, turning the power off. In the shadows he prowled like a panther waiting to pounce on unsuspecting enemies. Sticking to the wall, barely making any sound as he trudged through the gore-filled hallway. From what he remembered, the decker cult was a cult that worshipped the machine, sacrificing their bodies for steel ones, they had realized the weakness of their flesh. Enabling them to pursue a body that would only rust, but not die.

Even in the end of the world, they persisted. Witnessing the end of Aured City when the belua eventually turned against them. Jakob didn't know what happened at the end of the world. He wondered if the rest of the cities persisted, fighting a losing fight, but not letting the flames of humanity die. Jakob hated how he started thinking of the coming future. Everything has been going to fate's hand that someone like him could not change.

Jakob's heart went cold. His face became a blank piece of canvas. He snuck on the backs of the enemies, not letting them squeal as he stabs them right between the ribs, gouging the point of the vibrant blade to their hearts. Leaving a trail of blood, he saw the rest of the cultists searching through the room, pouring bullets on anyone who was alive. A complete purge was their purpose, and why they would do this was not something Jakob would fathom. Or he would pretend to know what was happening in their sick minds.

They scrubbed most of the rooms clean. They sprawled the staff members on the ground with their heads blown to pieces. Some had their torsos blown off. The rest had their sides shredded and backs riddled with holes. From the distance, Jakob heard the whirring and whining of machinery. Closing in to the source of the noise, he run vertically up the wall, crawled on the ceiling using the pipes, and dropped them with two quick blows from the vibrant blade. Landing on the floor, he held a wound, bit his lower lip and spat out a mouthful of blood. Tearing one clothing of the fallen staff, he crafted a makeshift bandage around his wound. Forcing his body to move, he arrived to where the star room was. To his surprise, they laded the room with turrets that killed the cultists approaching. The turrets destroyed, and from the looks of it they were entering to drag Angela out.

Jakob stayed silent as he puts them down. Not uttering a single word to the cultists. The room was a mess, but the walk-in closet remained firmly closed, and from the looks of it doubled as a safe room for the Miss. Standing in front of the door, he beacon the camera, then realizing that his face drenched in blood, he wiped his face and showed it on the camera. The gears and motors of the room whirred as it opened, revealing Angela standing up with a pistol in her hand.

"What happened to the Miss?" Angela said, eyes looking around.

"Safe, but she won't be if we stay here."

"Your job was to protect the Miss!"

"Yes, but she won't leave without you. Jakob turns his back on Angela, brandishing the vibrant in front. "Looks you have to stay back for now."

"I thought they were taking too long. Hmm, you killed most of them, that is impressive."

Jakob eyed the slight glow on the person speaking. An etherian nearing the third layer of ether. Jakob lamented how unprepared he was, considering that they hired him because he killed an etherian. Then again, these conditions were nothing new to him.

"Angela," Jakob said without a tone in his voice. "Run fast, don't look back and leave your back to me. Understood?"

Angela nodded. Before the Etherian could speak a distasteful retort Jakob shot a plasma round. The etherian reeled and threw a palm that shattered the concrete wall behind him. Angela ran to the side. The Etherian was about to throw his palm when Jakob shot the etherian just above the navel. Holstering the plasma shooter, Jakob threw himself into a dance of death, leaving him tangled with the Etherian. Angela ran to the door. Her figure gone from his sight.

The Etherian produced a shockwave using his body. Jakob rolled to the side and slammed his elbow below the armpit of the Etherian. Throwing the Etherian using his shoulder, Jakob sprinted out of the door. Angela was not far, but a cultist greeted her. She opened fire, opening four holes in the cultist's chest. A shockwave blasted the room open. Jakob threw the vibrant blade like a throw knife, the Etherian dodged, and was about to blast Jakob .

Throwing his right leg around, he kicked the Etherian thrice in the check, and followed it with a knee right in the chin. Pushing the Etherian on the wall, he started slamming his fist on the eyes, the nose, the throat, and slapping the Etherian's ears to disorientate him. When the Etherian fell on the ground, Jakob slashed his thighs, only for the vibrant blade to groan under the ether protecting the etherian's skin.

Giving four or more slash at the etherian, Jakob got flung away by the shockwave, his nanoweaved suit finally breaking from the damage done to it. Ripping his suit off, he threw it to the side, and followed Angela, leaving the etherian releasing shockwaves, shattering the room's walls and ceiling.

As much as he liked to put a hole inside that Etherian's head. Jakob needed to escort Angela out. She reached the stadium, but the cultist had her surrounded. Picking up a rifle on the ground, he started taking crack shots, gunning down the cultists were after her. With the cultists dead, Angela waited for Jakob before they started heading to the limousine.

Chaos blazes under the rainy night of Aured City. The cultists surrounded the limousine, if it wasn't for the defenses of the limousine then they wouldn't be able to hold on. Angela ran inside the limo and huddled inside. Jakob braced his body on the limo as he spat out another mouthful of blood. His vision had lost all colors. His heartbeats became slow. Inhaling and shaking his head. He straightened his back. Gaul threw a shot at Jakob, and he didn't hesitate to inject himself with the adrenaline shot.

The Talos Machina fought in the distance. All over the district there was only firefights and bombardment coming from every direction. Jakob thought it was far from over seeing vehicles coming for the limo.

The orbs of light hanging on the circular tower not far from where he was lighted Jakob's face. The veil of rain splits the lights. On the community, there was a group of people opening the hatches so that the floodwater whirls down the drain. From the second-floors of the buildings, there were men and women dressed in thick gray clothing.Jakob rested his back on the bench. He looked up. The flyers of Aured City numbered about hundreds a day. The city consumed fuel than any of the bastion cities. He had been ignorant of the world. Jakob did not have to know about the city. All he knows back then was how to survive a day outside of the city.Jakob clenched his fist. He had done something to change something. He did not know what it was that made things turned out this way, but he could not understand the empty feeling. The feelings he had while in battle were like momentary and fleeting."I really cannot do it," Jakob said. The rainwater was like spray hitting h

Jakob stood behind Helga. She wore a sharp business suit with a red tie. She had gloved her hands and tied her hair into a ponytail. She spoke to a man armed to the teeth. Though he looked intimidating, Helga did not show any stiffness or being overwhelmed. How could he, when Jakob was standing behind her with such an expression? The two talked for minutes. Helga shook the armored hand of the man and started strutting to the pad. The Karnifex was on the landing pad. Helga stood. She took out a cigarette from her pocket, lighting it up. She looked up at the Aured Sky."Just a drizzle of rain," Helga said.Jakob folded his armored arms. Helga snickered."You are getting used to that suit.""Hard to take it off when it seems like you are making use of me too much.""Can't help it, you are a good at what you do. Also, the Boss wants to personally make sure that my safety is secured."Jakob surveyed the area. The personnel from the buildin

  • The Outrider   Chapter 47: A Moment For Dona

Dona liked to mix drinks. She had become a better mixer than ever. It seems she had a natural talent. Helga had praised her drink, and when Jakob comes home, she would give him a stiff one that would ease his muscles. They had not done it for a long time, though she did not mind it. He was always full of thoughts and his mind would wander. Not that it matters to her as long as he comes home safe from his missions. He had become one of the terrifying people that Haven knew after his recent works, which made him quite an important person. Just by association, they treated her with respect. Dona knows she was riding on his coattails. It did not bother her that there are those who would call her hurtful words.Jakob was not someone who was a restricting person. For someone who started the relationship with cash, he was someone who did not bother too much about it. He was not a wasteful man. He was thrifty, and he liked to eat nutritional food with fondness. He acts like an

The move alongside the appearance of Commander Blackwell, supported by both human and etherian made the Leaders accept Commander Blackwells' status as one of the protectors of Aured City.As for where Sanctum and Haven stands in the issue, they answered by showing their neutrality in the matter. The first request that Karl made was to take back Gharasu and the steelfort. The government moved to prove that they are accommodating. T

The beluaman raises the ground, forcing Jakob to use the grappler stake to swing around the beluaman's attack, using the momentum created by the weight of the greatsword to hasten the swing. He turns around to smash the greatsword down on a 15m belua."Still alive, J," Helga called, "you are making Dona worry.""Got to buy time, Hel," Jakob flattened the greatsword to block a root spire. He grappled on the 15m belua, threw the greatsword, caught it, and pummeled a belua pouncing at him. Landing on top of a belua, he stabbed the greatsword's tip."Your suit is a mess," Helga said, "the amount of repairs it'll need is going to cost you. Nonetheless, the ether forge,

Her opinion towards humans were low. Anastasia will not work with these humans if she had the chance to do so. Blackwells changed her opinions of them. This time she had to admit. Humans were not as inferior as she thought. Their technology were keeping them alive. Even their medicine and drugs have started evolving. The suit this Outrider was wearing and the ability to lift her Blackwell's sword was enough to indicate.Still, it was odd in a sense that she did not see the usual side effects. He did not even take the usual syringes that one would take. Her and her Blackwells have been part of the many meetings and experiments. They share the burden of turning their fellow etherians into good soldiers. Therefore, she did not recognize any signs of modification other than the well-made exosuit. Deep in the swamp, hit by the rain, and surrounded. Anastasia kept her calm while pulling her Blackwells away. Blackwells conserved his energy. His eyes lacked light. There is an
