Mag-log in
Isabella frantically rubbed her palms over her cold legs that was drawn up to her chest in an attempt to rid herself of the cold.
The hard concrete floor was not helping matters neither was the fact that she was scantily clad in a silk dress which was definitely not fit for a prison, especially when you had no idea how long your stay would be.
She clenched her fists in a bid to stop the tears from flowing but like always her tear ducts seemed to have a mind of their own and soon after she was sobbing uncontrollably.
In a blink of an eye, her world had turned upside down and she had done nothing other than stand in the side-lines and watch as an onlooker as her world crumbled before her.
It was just like yesterday when the palace was alive buzzing with a flurry of activities in preparations for the grand ball that was planned for her.
She wasn’t elated about the ball, no one would be thrilled by the idea of getting engaged to someone you didn’t know but if she had to chose again she would chose her past life over this without batting an eyelid...she stared of into space and soon she was lost in the thoughts of her past...
“Father...”
“Isabella it is important that a lady is married off". He stared at her, his hands clamped behind his back, in his all familiar stance that was peculiar to him.
“And as princess you should be rest assured you will be married off to someone renowned...”.
Isabella groaned loudly...
King Frances managed a short laugh, “Isabella that is definitely not very princess-like especially now that you’ll be representing the whole kingdom. You need to be of good behaviour".
Isabella stared at her Father, there was no talking her way out of this one, her father had never asked something of her. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to try do something for him, she thought. How bad could it get?, “I will not disappoint you, father".
He straightened up further if that was even possible, “Of course you won’t”. He walked towards the exit with long strides, “I trust I’ll see you in the ball later”.
“Of course father”, she replied solemnly.
When he was out of earshot Isabella groaned loudly, it was always about duties or the other. She had never made decisions for herself and right now she had no say in the matter, she would have to do as her father had asked. Their relationship wasn’t one where she could argue with her father.
She spent the rest of the day in her chambers, it was only when it was time for the ball, much later in the evening did her mother come to her. There was a brief knock at the door and then her mothers voice called out to her from outside the door, “Isabella”.
She got up to unlock the doors, “mother?”, her eyes turned to her hands, when she noticed the dress she was holding, a reminder that she had an important function to attend.
She rolled her eyes, “Of course my bachelorette party or engagement ball?, I have no idea what it is".
“Isabella dear...”.
“How could I forget my own engagement?”, Isabella retorted sarcastically, “Oh right it’s because I was only informed yesterday. If i didn’t know better I’d say it’s almost like you want to get rid of me...”.
Her mother quickly laid the dress on the bed and turned to her, “Your father’s decision is probably for the best”, she encouraged.
“Mother this is a gamble, I have no idea the calibre of men that would be out there and I’m supposed to pick a suitor...”.
“On the bright side you get to pick the man you want”.
Isabella’s shoulders dropped in defeat, “How do I even know I’ll make the right decision, for all I know these men would only be putting on an act”.
Her mother sighed in exasperation and sat on the bed, she gestured with her hand for Isabella to sit besides her. Isabella dragged her feet to her and quickly embraced her.
She placed a kiss on her head, “I trust that you’ll make the right decision and if it makes you feel any better you can refuse to choose your suitor today”. She placed a palm on her face, “However I know you’re strong, strong to stand by whatever decision you make”.
“Mother...”
“It will all fall in place my dear, you should get ready quickly now”, she called out and almost immediately two maids rushed in. Her mother stood up, “They’ll help you get dressed”.
“I love you mother”, Isabella blurted out.
She smiled brightly, “And I you”.
When the maids were done fussing around her, she looked at herself in the mirror, despite her current mood she smiled, she did look beautiful.
They had somehow managed to arrange her long black curls on top of her head, her jewellery was a striking blue matching the colour of her eyes. The black evening silk dress complemented her hair, of course it was her favourite colour.
She was quickly escorted to the throne room where the ball was held, she was joined by her parents soon after. The courtier bowed and quickly opened the doors and in a rehearsed manner cleared his throat to gain the attention of everyone, “King Frances the IV, escorted by his wife Queen Violet and their daughter Princess Isabella”.
There was a light round of applause and just then her brother walked in from behind. The courtier briefly acknowledged him with a short nod of his head and announced again, “Of course, Prince Louis has decided to grace us with his presence". Isabella could have sworn she heard a hint of sarcasm in his tone. The applause continued, she leaned into her brother and whispered in his ear, “Way to go elder brother".
He snorted in response. They proceeded towards the ball room when the courtiers voice rang out again, “...all of the kingdom of East Angles”.
Her parents like good hosts that they were began to waltz around the hall greeting guests that were present. Isabella held her brother’s arm, “please don’t leave me here all alone". Louis gave a mock bow, “I have princely duties to attend to". She rolled her eyes, “of course duties...”
Her fathers voice rung out interrupting her musings, “The ball is in honour of my daughter, princess Isabella”. She curtly nodded as a hundred pairs of eyes fixated on her. He continued, “She is to pick a suitor today and whatever her decision may be, it will be respected. Her decision would further strengthen the bonds between the two kingdoms and we will be open for whatever treaties there would be to sign in the future".
All the while her father spoke, Isabella plastered a fake smile on her face as she watched most people expressions lit up at the mention of treaties which could be economically beneficial to their kingdoms, gold diggers she snorted quietly.
“...cheers everyone”, Isabella was jolted back to reality as her father rounded up the speech, “Enjoy the party".
“Long live the King", there was the resounding noise of clinking glasses.
Not long after many men were already by her side offering her a dance, prince and noble men alike. This was indeed going to be a long night...
Five dances later, many fake smiles, lame conversations, reasonable conversations, after incessantly turning down the offers of a dance, Isabella decided she had had enough. She was going to sit at an unoccupied corner of the hall and nothing was going to deter her, she snatched a glass of wine and as she brought it to her lips, a deep baritone voice behind her interrupted her...
Isabella could not deny the fact that her conversation with Gwen rattled her. As the days had passed a small part of her had hoped he saw her in a different light.Overtime she had begun to feel things for him, when she wasn't focused on the fact that he had killed her parents she was beginning to see the little things about him that she found cute. She tried to wave them off but she felt bad. She didn’t want to attend any ball that would demean her not like she had a choice and she knew she couldn’t confront Alessandro. He made her feel so uneasy in so many ways and that left one option Aunt Marie.Which was why she was in kitchen playing with her food and looking for a comfortable outlet to share her fears with Marie. However Marie made it harder as she was walking about, ordering the servants in preparation for the evening.Isabella took a slice of pie and blurted out, “What does it mean to be a vampi
She had resumed eating in the kitchen with Marie and the other staffs. It was quite obvious she wasn’t a guest here but a prisoner so she decided to do well to stay in her limits. She flipped the pages of the book that Marie had lent her to read, she was bored of staying indoors all day alone by herself.Alessandro walked in with Cecily and another lady. Isabella’s eyes stared fixatedly on Alessandro he was nothing like the prim and proper prince that she knew. His dark long hair was let loose and it draped against his shoulders. He was in casual clothing, nothing like his usual royal regalia. He looked almost normal until he flashed his fangs.“It seems like you’re already adjusting to life here”, he remarked, “Well that’s good since you will be my escort to the ball of a lifetime", he came to sit besides her on the couch, she moved away slightly in a bid to create room between them, however that didn’t deter him as he nudged forwa
Isabella sat in the dining room with King Alessandro and Kieran. After her and Alessandro’s conversation in the past week, things between them had been different, they had been able to come to a mutual understanding. She could never understand why there were wars and killings, she didn’t know why her father had killed the queen, thinking about it clearly she realised she didn’t know him well. She couldn’t justify Alessandro’s actions, many innocent lives were put on the line for him to achieve his revenge. However she fully understood the reason why he did what he did. She would have done the same if she was in his place. She hadn’t forgiven him but she knew plotting her escape was impossible. She had just two options, live this new life or as she hoped one day be whisked away from this life. Her breakfast of Cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate was placed before her. The king chose that mome
Alessandro pushed open the kitchen doors, he could perceive her exotic scent from outside the door, it was a mixture of flowers, sunshine and a scent that he couldn’t quite place his finger on. He saw her go rigid as she noticed him walk in, the smile on her face disappeared, she looked like a lost deer, so...”.Aunt Marie sneaked up on him before he knew. It was almost impossible to take any vampire unawares, especially one of his calibre but he had been completely focused on her.“You deserve to be outside in the scorching heat of the sun", Marie whisper yelled, “How could you?”“Marie please...”“You should never have done what you did Andro, you’re not that kind of person and now you’ve scared her to death...”.“Marie!”, Alessandro interrupted, “ I lost control...”“Does she not remind you of your mother?...”“She does”, Alessandro answered gravelly, “She remind
Isabella had pushed him beyond his limits and there was no escape for her. He drank from her neck, the rush of blood into his mouth made him feel lightheaded. Her blood was intoxicating, it had been a while since he fed from a live host. Her screams fuelled his desire to feed more. She tasted divine...The doors flung open and he could make out the scent of Kieran and Gwen. Kieran tackled him from behind, he tried to pull him off but Gwen joined him and he could feel himself loose the battle.Other guards rushed to restrain him, after so much scuffles they were able to disentangle him from Isabella. Kieran quickly moved and placed his tongue on her neck to stop the bleeding. Alessandro let out a ferocious growl, at that point, he couldn’t tell if he was angry for being taken away from his feed or the fact that Kieran had his tongue on her.☆
The guard gave Isabella a quick glance before he reluctantly left the room. Marie turned to her, “You have so much hate for him".Isabella chuckled clearly unamused, “I don’t know...maybe it’s because he came to engagement ball or whatever it was and killed my parents, took me captive and made me his pet. What does that even mean?”. She shouted, “And now...for all I know he is hunting down my only brother. What is the fate of my people without a ruler?”.“He not only destroyed my life, the life and fate of my people are destroyed. My whole life is at standstill with no purpose whatsoever", she ranted on, “I don’t even know why I’m here, why I’m I here?”.Marie took her hand led her to a chair at the far end away from the servants who were scurrying around trying to prepare lunch for the occupants of the castle.“Isabella you ever wonder why we are here?. I mean humans work
