I.

It has been a year since Ariel ordeal with Helwing’s cursed son. Now Ariel trying to clean up the mess that was done and she is finding out that there was more that was still unfolding. Still the black mist existed having been crushed by Ariel but not killed. The black mist needed a new body to possess and soon it would find a new vessel. Time is ticking before Ariel will find out that there was more hidden from her; a new mission and others are needed in order to stop the hunt. The Black Mist was closer to home then anyone could anticipate.

Prologue

She made her phone calls and gather her papers together; she had to work fast because there were things going on that needed to be explained. Reports had been going on that there were drugs still be distributed and the mafia vampires have been going silent. Other vampires had been going off grid except for the pure bloods. There was political issues going on amongst vampires turned and pure bloods; rebels were up to something, and she had to get to the bottom of it. She had made a few phone calls till she found someone who knew about magic and curses and things pertaining to the legends of the ancient ones. After making an appointment with the old woman she let her husband know she would be late tonight.

She rode her motorcycle to the Gypsy camp and there a man was waiting on her. She paid the man with gold coins that would compensate him and keep his silence.

“Don’t let anything happen to my motorcycle.”

“No worries, we know what you are and what you can do; it would be stupid of us to betray the granddaughter of Vlad II and niece to Vlad III. Come now we go.”

She got on the black Transylvania horse and headed into the Hoia-Baciu Forest Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She knew the story of this eerie forest of crooked trees. Which was known to mortals as the Bermuda Triangle of Romania. They went off the trails to a part of the woods that was cleared out.

“Our Queen you wanted to meet; here is she is.”

Ariel stepping off her mount walked towards the old woman the Gypsies called their Queen. Her black cloaked was long and her hood covered her face.

“Ariel or should I say, Mihaela Ariel Warrier-Krüger.”

“Ariel is fine, Madame?”

“Madame Kezia, I am over a thousand years old... old like these trees; now why do you seek me child?”

“The Oracle, it’s not a coincidence that everything going and I need to find her.”

“You are right. This isn’t a coincidence. There is much you do not know and things to come that have not be awaken in you. Family secrets and legends will be unmasked before your eyes. You have discovered who you are from the Dracul bloodline. This Oracle you seek is in America. Her name is Emily Buchanan.”

“Others are looking for her too, are they not?”

“Yes. You will need One to turn her but not you. Though you are a vampire, but you cannot turn anyone. The blood that runs through your veins will kill mortals.”

“You’re not going to tell me what I am?”

“It is not my place child. Somethings must be seen at the right moment. Just like when you found out about your mother’s family. Your uncle and the elders will have to change her; not by their bites because her powers will see them as a threat, must be their blood. She too has secrets within her blood. As your daughter Odette; she has a destiny. Do you want to know why you keep searching; you know you are the key to bring creatures together. Vampires and Lycans and witches and a few others; all will look to you.”

“This sounds like a very messed up horror movie; complicates as ever.”

“Rebels are trying to destroy this world; mortals already have done so much, they don’t need any help.”

“Why now then? Why not when...”

Madame Kezia raised her hand, “It was stopped by those who swore to protect humanity. This world isn’t as old as those in society has claimed. I have seen so much and yet humanity is worth fighting for. Love is the greatest weapon and those who willing to die for love can change the future. Your mother’s love kept you safe when you could’ve been used as a weapon in your youth. She knew if you didn’t learn humility and humanity, that the beast inside you would not be stopped. No matter how much you want a simple, normal life; it will be your blue flower. The blue flower representing for desire, love, and it symbolizes hope and the beauty of things. However you as the princess warrior it is intangible ethereal; your strife in the  unreachable tranquility you seek. Like Vlad III you will always have war and blood at your feet; cursed to be the judgement.”

“And my children?”

“You mean are they going to follow down your path?”

“Yes.”

She smiled lightly, “Let it suffice this child, if you do not accept your fate and be accountable . Your great grandfather tried to prevent the union of bloodlines; and yet it still happened. Children tend to follow their parents; peace is when you accept your fate and stop resisting who you are. I must go for now. If you ever need me; I’ll be closer then you know.”

Chapter 1

Moving Day

What can I say but excitement when I found out I had won the lottery. Helping my family and getting some bills taken care; I was moving out of town to start a career. I just bought my first home along with an upper apartment and basement apartment. I got the main floor. My parents drove the moving truck and I followed in my truck; we were headed to my new place. I had already interviewed a few people for both apartments and had a lawyer to draw up rental agreement; so off to start my life. Smiling, 22 years old and already on my way to making myself into something. Growing up knowing what’s it like to be poor; and then hitting it big, you never forget. You try never to be foolish to go backwards in life.

My mother looking at everything staying quiet as my dad and I were moving boxes in.

“Are you sure you want to live up here? You’re so far away from us in Tennessee and....”

“Mom, I’m rich. I got you and daddy a cottage on the lake. It’s already furnished and here are the keys. Stay up here for a little bit and get away from everything for a little while.”

Since I had won the lottery my dad still worked but his full time job wasn’t a necessity anymore. Where once he had to work two jobs and trying to get overtime; now he could take it easy. He no longer needed the overtime; basically worked to keep himself busy. Plus he knew if he stayed home; my mom would find things for him to do, so it was a hobby then anything else.

Which was great because her mom could go visit her family more; and whenever without feeling guilty. They stayed for Chinese take out; and then they left to their cottage. So I finally had my own place and officially out on my own. The next few days I learned the town and drove around; I saw a track that would be perfect to go jogging. I did some shopping for my place, and then some grocery shopping. I ended up getting a new computer system; I was going to attempt playing video games online. I preferred console gaming but what the hell. I noticed the town seemed like old time like something you see on TV. Even though they had so many shops and advances; it just seemed almost too perfect. She saw a statue in the park of a woman named Rachel Becket. She read about the lady and was impressed.

At the local police department there was a few cop cars but not like several; she knew there was a base not too far, so maybe weekends were busier. She found a gym that had an indoor pool; she got excited because it’s something her town didn’t have. After she finished her chores at home she swung by the gym to sign up; she learned it was a twenty-four hour gym. She saw that a lot of kids and teens were in the pool; so tonight she would go swimming. That evening her parents came over and she fixed chicken Parmesan and they told her about the cottage. It had six rooms so family could stay there when visiting. He mother loved the chef kitchen and her dad loved the man cave. She had fixed her mother a private bathroom with a soaker tub for her mother to relax in. They drank some coffee but her mother had hot tea. She loved these times; she wished her sister and brother-in-law were here, but they were preparing for the arrival of their son. By 12 she was getting ready to head out and by 1 am she was at the gym. No one at the pool and a few guys were at the weight room. She dove in; she was grateful that the water was warm.

Kirk was working out with a few friends when he caught a whiff in the air; the scent was roses and honey. He followed the scent to see a female swimming in the pool. His inner wolf was excited but Kirk just watched for a few minutes and went back to the gym. He wasn’t looking for anyone especially since he was trying to get approved to go overseas to join Igor’s army of Elites. Still the smell lingered and soon he saw her dressed in yoga pants and tank top. She was lifting weights and doing squats and soon lunges. She wasn’t by any means thin like string bean; she was thick and curvy, all muscle. He didn’t like thin and bouncy; her body made his inner wolf go crazy. She had headphones on so she was focusing on her circuit training. She knew there were guys there but she remembered most guys wanted thin chicks. She worked out doing sit ups and knew she would never be thin like her sister. She struggled with weight since school. She made sure she appeared on the outside to have confidence; but inside, she still saw the plump chick. She remembered every night crying because guys looked down on her; and when she tried losing weight, all the guys were barking at her. She understood what it meant to be coyote ugly. She was done and decided to go in the steam room; she put the timer on and just relaxed. She took a quick shower and left to go home. Kirk decided to follow and saw she was five miles from the gym and smiled. He would see her again and hopefully get to know her; but he wouldn’t compromise his dream of joining the Elites.

After a month of living on my own and learning to be a landlord; decided to start getting back into jogging. The town I moved to was a military town. So bars and college were not too far away; so it wasn’t too boring. It was 5 am and  I had the whole track to myself. A morning jog then get some groceries and pay a few bills and so on and so forth. Things were going great. I wasn’t looking to date anyone but to have fun and enjoy life. I thought about buying another house and turn it into two apartments; but for now things were fine the way they were.

Once my jog was done went to go do my errands by evening time I still was wanting to get out and have fun. I put on my skirt and dark red top. Slipped into my cowgirl boots and grabbed my small purse. A little make up and a spritz of perfume and I was out the door. The bar was full of mostly uniformed men and a few college students. I headed to the bar and ordered a beer and saw a lot of people kicking back. A few guys were biting on me and I danced to a few songs; but after awhile was getting bored. As I looked down to get my keys I bumped into someone.

“Sorry...”

Looking up the guy was over 6ft 4; he was in his bdu’s and apparently just came in with a small group.

“It’s okay.”

A few more people came in with him and I figured one of them was a girlfriend or a wife. I went to my truck and decided to drive around. For some reason I just wanted out of the house.

The gym seem to be her outlet and working out cleared her frustrated mind.  The only time she could work through her emotions was while working out. When she wanted to cry swimming seemed to purify her soul. When she had nightmares, running and weightlifting helped with her fears. For too long she had so much emotion bottled up; that one day she just started walking. Any time she wanted to release her raw emotions; working out freed her mind from negativity.

She couldn’t believe she bumped into a cute guy. He had looked at her like she was a twit; even now that she had some blossomed, she falter so much with her confidence. She felt he looked at her like she had a snot ball between her eyes. No matter where she went she felt like an outsider; never belonging anywhere, the proof was in the pudding. She had been here and so far being here; she hadn’t made one friend. She could cry but it just pushed her to swim and get the past the memories. Emily changed into her jogging outfit and wrapped up her hands and started boxing. From the shadows other eyes were on her; she froze like something wasn’t right. She grabbed her bag and left. His eyes glowed green, “We found the Oracle. Yes, I’ll get one of the guys to intercept her.”

“We need to get her to Chicago before Esmeralda has one of her people to intercept; because if Ariel is brought in the boss will have our heads.”

The vampire shudder knowing that failure was unacceptable.

“Hello Evan, you’re out of place aren’t you?”

He turned around and Esmeralda suckered punched him. She smiled as she hand cuffed him and lifted him up and threw him in the trunk.

“Tony, I got one of the rebels in the trunk. I’m heading to the base; I’ll be there in Five.”

She had his cellphone and cleaned up. She called Dexter to take care of the gym’s camera. They had confirmation that the new girl in town was the Oracle. Now to find out why the rebels wanted her.

Saturday was my semi busy day. I checked on my tenants and the drove the long drive home. By noon I went walking, burning time before I left. The track had some stairs on the stadium. Why not.... I started moving up and down and then across. For an hour I ran some and jogged then back up on the stairs. Who would’ve thought when I was in high school I was chubby chic, an awkward butterball. Now I’m a hundred and fifty pounds lighter. I could enlist but last time I was still over by three pounds. Then I won the lottery.

I was able to give my parents a couple of hundred thousand dollars and my sister a couple of hundred thousand dollars. Leaving me still financially secured. Investing in a house where I could rent the top floor and basement made a good property investment. For some reason I was looking at a bungalow and loved it. Maybe move there and keep the bigger house only as a rental. She saw the name of the real estate agent and decided to check it out.

Three hours later she got to her parents house and found out they were leaving to my mother’s county down in Costa Rica. I should’ve called but I was able to at least see them off.

My dad even though they were no longer living paycheck to paycheck; still insisted on keeping his job. My mother couldn’t work but invested in a taxi cab; I think it was just to keep busy. Closing up for them I just drove back, and again just wanted to get out.

I sat at the bar and decided to stay in the corner. Maybe I am lonely but then again I was use to being alone. She remembered learning she was rich and people in town knew I had come into money. People who wasn’t there for me when I was struggling; had wanted to be friends. I knew why they wanted me around; money attracted so that is why I left. Thinking of my sister, who was pregnant; with her first son, it would be just a few more weeks before his arrival. My sister and her husband were working the family business; which my sister started her own bakery, right next to the restaurant.

Esmeralda saw Emily in the bar and excused herself.

“Hey Ariel, yes she is here and we have more security set up; did you get more information out of Dexter?”

“Yes. We are making preparations now. Just keep all eyes on her; we should be ready to go shortly. We sent her parents to her Costa Rica and have surveillance on them and on her family in Mississippi.”

“We have spotted a few outsiders; our slayers here are on alert.”

“That’s fine... Alexander talking with some the werewolf packs to keep an eye out.”

Having another drink and relaxing to the music two guys were checking me out. They sent a waitress over; giving me another drink. This was already my second drink and I knew my limits. I thanked her and gave her a tip and politely declined the drink. The same guy I had bumped into was coming inside the bar with the same group of males and females. All of them were in civilians. I paid my tab and walked out the door. I heard the door reopened and the two guys who had bought me a drink were right behind me. I heard my parents say never go alone; but I was a lone wolf, a loner. I clicked my truck and was about to get in when the one guy slammed the door shut.

“Where are you going?”

He had pushed my front against the door as his body was pushed against my backside.

“You don’t want to do this.”

The guy laughing as though she had told a joke. He kissed her neck and she tried resisting but he was a lot stronger then what she thought.

“Yes, I do.”

She waited for his next move but she felt the guy move from her; she turned around to see the guy being lifted up. Her rescuer was the guy she had bumped into. He threw the guy down on the ground, “I told you to leave town. Time is almost up.” She could not see the tall Sgt; his back was to her. His eyes glowed amber at the guy on the ground. The guy pissed his pants and scrambled getting back up. Him and his friend ran away. Taking a deep breath in, “Thank you.”

The tall sgt returned to normal before he turned around.

“You’re welcome.”

Her scent was very strong; no wonder those oust wolves were after her.

“Please be careful out here.”

“I normally am; tonight I just wanted a couple drinks to relax.”

“You were here last night, wasn’t you?”

“Yeah... sorry about bumping into you.”

He smiled, “I didn’t feel a thing.”

“Because you’re like a tank.” She gibbed.

“A tank; I like that.” His group was waving at him to come back in.

“I guess your girlfriend wants you to go back in...”

“I don’t have a girlfriend or wife. I am here with just friends.”

For some reason she was happy as she drank in his blue with gold eyes.

“I don’t want to keep you from a night out with friends; again thank you.” She drove off in her truck heading home. She felt stupid for what had happened; however she didn’t ask her rescuer his name. She wasn’t upfront but maybe one day she would get a spine. Too many years of being bullied took her confidence away.

Chapter 2

New Blood

He went back into the bar with his friends and headed to the back room.

“So Carl and Jesse got the message?”

“I don’t know but Martin you need to take Alexia and do a recon. They were supposed to be gone already. They already got their discharge papers.”

“I guess they wanted one more taste.”

He was still thinking about the girl.

“That girl, do any of know anything about her?”

“Never seen her before; you want us to investigate her?”

“No.”

“She smelled pure. A gem these days.”

He didn’t say anything as he remembered her scent.

Emily went home and went into her jacuzzi along with a bottle of wine. She felt so stupid that she didn’t carry her taser. She had gotten attention just not the attention she wanted. She filled her goblet up to the brim. She wiped her tear away. She hated the feeling of being a victim; always from the bullies to tonight, she was just frustrated because for too long she had pushed and pushed. Another glass and music of some soft rock got her in a better mood. The bottle was now empty and she went back inside. Changing into her baggy T-shirt and fell asleep on the couch. She dreamt of the sergeant and it wasn’t a bad dream but then saw a creature with red eyes. A black mist changing it into a werewolf snapping at her. She woke up feeling she wasn’t alone. She looked out the window and felt something out there was staring at her. She started praying and made sure her doors were all locked and went upstairs and made sure her .357 was loaded. She tucked her gun underneath her pillow and finally went back to sleep.

The following morning she was getting groceries and trying to open the door. She finally taped the button to her suv; putting her groceries in she felt someone watching her. She closed her hatch and noticed a few people watching her and whispering. She stopped and listened in... “virgin blood.”

Odd as it was she acted as normal as possible trying not to let her paranoia kick in.

“Hello stranger.”

She turned to see the guy from last night.

“Hello tank.”

“My name is Kirk but tank has a nice sound to it.”

“I’m Emily.”

“Do you want to have lunch?”

“I was going to go check out a new place but will dinner be okay?”

“Even better... seven okay?”

“Yes that would work. Here is my number to call me later if you like.”

“I get off work at 1800.”

“I’ll make sure to keep my phone open at 1805.”

She drove off as he looked around letting others know he was staking his claim. Word had gotten out there was a virgin blood in town. He was surprised that they allowed a human in town. Since what happened to Rachel Becket, most humans left. The drug rings were destroyed so humans went elsewhere. Mainly monsters ran the town; it was their haven. He went back on base only it wasn’t regular army. The Slayers set up their main base here. The college thanks to Alexander; teens can do higher education. Much has changed in the last two years. He remembered the year Rachel was murdered and her daughter Ariel was hunting down the man who was behind it; from the rumors a summoned ghoul also had a hand in the murder. He remembered seeing Ariel, she was known to be ruthless when it came to hunting down evil. The man charged with Rachel’s murder was sent to a mental ward because he kept repeating a black mist with red eyes had possessed him. Now hunters were allowed in town under permission from Ariel directly. He had walked from the base and headed back; he had paperwork to do which wouldn’t take very long. He stayed on base because he didn’t care too much about going back to the pack house. Her scent of roses and honey was mesmerizing and enchanted him. Something about her grabbed his attention. He would pick up some roses for her when he went to go pick her up. He ordered various colors of roses especially the pink and white ones.

By 6:00 Emily was fixing herself up looking at herself in the mirror when she started getting a headache. She gripped the sink. She had visions before but nothing like this. Before her she saw a teen looking in the mirror turning into a monster and she saw him kill his family. She saw him turning back and freaking out then he hung himself. Behind her she saw the young man. She turned around and he was gone. At 6:05  she heard her phone going off.

“Hello. Yeah I’m okay I thought I saw a mouse.”

She gave him her address and she finally finished getting ready. She felt a pull and she felt a button. A wall moved  and she was about to go in but Emily heard the doorbell. She pushed the button again. Her date looked handsome as ever. Kirk was dressed in black pants and black button up shirt with a dark red shirt underneath. He smiled and handed her a large bouquet of roses which made grin. She loved roses.

“Would you like to come in before we go?”

She was wearing a red dress and her black cowgirl boots.

“Really.”

“You must be a mind reader.”

She laughed, “I’m just a country gal from Tennessee.”

He came inside looking at the time, “We can’t stay too long.”

“I’m just putting the roses in a vase; thank you so much, they are gorgeous.”

He smiled showing his white teeth.

“Would like a drink or something.”

“No but thank you.”

She looked at herself in the mirror once more and she grabbed her purse.

“I’m ready.”

He smiled, “you look very beautiful.”

He held out his hand and she grinned and followed him out. She got a whiff of him, it was a spice and sweet tobacco scent. They got into his Jeep and he had Celtic rock band on which was something she liked.

“I always wanted to live in Scotland and visit Ireland.”

“My ancestors are from Ireland as well as a few other places.”

“Are you from Maine?”

“No. Just live here and being stationed here.

“I just moved here; going on two months in a couple of weeks.”

“I saw you a few times at the gym; why do you go by yourself?”

“I don’t exactly have friends especially being new up here...”

Her voiced trailed off a little, “Thank you again for the other night. I normally carry a taser but that night it slipped my mind.”

“Our town is normally crime free; but those two were dishonorably discharged.”

“You know them?”

“I was their sergeant.”

He took her to a sea side restaurant that was a quaint little place. He ordered a medium rare steak and Emily ordered the surf and turf. She felt awkward, “I don’t go on many dates. Actually this is my first date.”

“Just be yourself. So you’re from Tennessee. You’re a long way from home.”

“Yeah but it’s a reprieve. My parents actually got a place not too far from here. They went to my mother’s country the other day. My sister and her family still live in the South. How about yourself, any siblings?”

He grinned in his world family was referred to as packs. Since he was an Alpha of his own pack his brothers were still at home.

“I have four brothers. My aunt keeps them until they join the army or go to school.”

“How long have you been in the Army?”

“Since I was 19 so for few years.”

In his mind he remembered the years of being a soldier for over fifty years he has worn one uniform and then another. Though he could be her grandfather; he never aged. He took a drink of his whiskey and signaled for another. There was silence and she bit her lower lip. She really was innocent somewhat like a child finding her way. He was like that until he fought in the Korean and then Vietnam wars

“Are you making it a career or gunning for something else?”

He drank his whiskey thinking of wanting to join Igor Smirnov’s Elites but being a Slayer had its perks; plus it was a stepping stone.

“I’m making a career out of the Army.”

“How about you? What do you do for a living?”

She was a waitress at a local restaurant but then she won the lottery. But she wasn’t going to say that; but saying nothing he would wonder how she lived; she didn’t want him to think she was doing illegal things, but at the same time didn’t want him to know she had money either.

“I’m into buying and selling.”

Which was true she went to auctions and bought things that were at estate sales. She either kept things or resold them.

“I go to estate auctions and buy oddities; and resell online.”

She showed him a crystal she bought before she moved up here, “I don’t get into the crystal thing; but this one I thought was unusual. I think I had bought some stuff from a Wiccan. I had this blessed in case it had some negative mojo.”

She laughed but he didn’t and she drank her beer feeling stupid now.

“Are you religious?”

“Religion is made by man; religion causes arguments and I believe in God. I just don’t believe it’s my place to judge anyone. I always believe if someone ask my faith to be careful because I will not sugarcoat it.”

He was curious about her, “What do you think about ghosts and cryptozoology?”

“My dad use to tell us about ghosts and what not; I believe we live in physical but supernatural world.”

She remembered seeing things growing up and knowing things; maybe why she didn’t keep friends. She remembered in school she had experiences that several students witnessed. She was dubbed freak. As one kid who called her a fat ass freak. He tasted sadness coming from her; he must’ve struck a nerve. Their food came and she smiled at him; hiding her sadness. She felt she was screwing up her date; and he would make some excuse not to see her again. She would kick herself later.

After dinner they went to a local pub and played pool. By midnight he escorted her to her front door. He kissed her on the cheek and then her hand.

“I hope we can do this again.”

“I’m going running in the morning but free most of the day.”

“I love running. I’ll call you when I get a break tomorrow.”

Again he kissed her on the cheek. She smiled and went inside her home. He walked to his jeep and sense he wasn’t alone.

“Hey Kirk.”

He turned and there was Tony; he stood at attention.

“At ease. Word is you already claimed her. Why?”

“Her scent is strong for a mortal.”

“She isn’t just any ordinary human. There is an interest in her. We need to talk.”

Tony and Alexander was at the bar with Esmeralda. Kirk taking his seat ready to hear whatever they were going to dish out.

“Okay what’s the skinny?”

Esmeralda took a drink out of her tequila, “She is an Oracle. A very strong Oracle. There hasn’t been one in over a 150 years. So when Emily was born we had been looking for her and when we found her; Ariel set it up for the girl to win a couple of million through a “lottery”. “

“So, I’m supposed to stay away from her now?”

Tony smiled, “You marked your territory, so now it’s your responsibility to watch over her. Vlad’s wife, Elizabeth discovered a sword a few years ago; so we are now ordered to find the other weapons. We are making arrangements for Emily. Since we have intercepted before others, you’re gonna help us.”

“It’s a lot I signed onto without knowing it; what am I helping you guys with?”

“We need her to go to Romania. Ariel and Friedrich are looking for those sites but with Emily it would narrow down the search. So your mission is to be her bodyguard. Because she is a virgin this makes her a target even more. Our sources are saying her blood is needed.”

Alexander looking at the Alpha, “you are not tell anyone especially Emily. Your mission is to protect her with your life. When we get everything set up; escort her to Romania; from there you can stay or comeback here.”

Kirk looking at them, “I’ll accept this mission.”

Tony looking directly at Kirk, “Just keep her pure till we find out why we need her blood.”

Chapter 3

Oracle

Ariel having had some hunters on recon that filled her in on rebel vampires. They too were after the Oracle. She had been informed a werewolf named Kirk had staked claim on the girl named Emily. That reminded her of when Friedrich came into her life; that he too had stake claim that she was his. From the shadows Elizabeth was watching Ariel; she knew Vlad’s niece would sooner or later learn the truth. The secret was still eating her up inside. She wanted to go talk to Ariel for she was more merciful then the Drăculea bloodlines; she was at times an angel. Elizabeth left so that her presence wouldn’t be discovered. Odette looking at her aunt knew her aunts secret; but she was wise enough, not to say anything just yet. Her mother knew there was more to what happened to Elizabeth being captured and chained; however she looked at Odette and smiled; Ariel placed her finger over her mouth, like ssshhh.

“Hush darling, Elizabeth knows that her husband can be unforgiving; however I am hoping he will remember love can make adults do stupid things.”

Odette smiled at her momma and ran downstairs to play chess with Rayburn. Rayburn has been coming around more especially trying to convince Ariel to step up and take her place at counsel. She told him that the only way she would be is if the cause for her to join would be worthy enough. Right now she was doing research on the vampire rebels; like what were they up to; she would wait till the right opportunity before she made her move.

Kirk was at her door at 7am with coffee as the window shades opened he acknowledged they were also Slayers; protecting her and she didn’t know it. He gave the signal and they returned to what they were doing. Emily was lacing up her shoes when she heard the doorbells. He was early but luckily she was an early raiser.

“You’re early,”

“I’m on time. I brought us coffee but I didn’t know what you like in your coffee...”

“Black is fine... in the morning my first cup is black.”

After having coffee they went jogging through the town; he showed her a few sights while they were out. He had a day off so he would spend the day with her; at lunch she made them grilled pork chops with Hawaiian sauce. Later they went and played pool as Esmeralda nodded at Kirk. They played pool when his friends showed up. They all met Emily; a few of the chicks gave off jealousy vibes. She excused herself to go to the bathroom. Sonja looking at the mortal, “Kirk, your aunt would not approve of her.”

“Luckily my aunt is not the Luna of the pack; now Sonja remember your place. A bunch you females wanted the Luna position; but none of you ladies are my mates. I expect each of you to show her the respect as your Luna.”

“Fine.... but.”

Kirk’s eyes glowed, “There is no but’s. If you don’t agree then you’ll be oust and marked as rogue.”

Rogues were treated less than lone wolves; at least with lone wolves they left without being dishonored. He considered himself a lone wolf; he didn’t even want to be pack leader, but his father forced Kirk into the position. Emily decided she was gonna say she wasn’t feeling well and leave; mainly because she had gotten bad vibes from the group. Especially from the females, they appeared to be jealous perhaps she stumbled onto some kind of love triangle.

Maybe he did have other girlfriends and they felt betrayed. She prepared to say she was leaving but she felt under the weather; however the vibe had changed. She didn’t feel overwhelmed by ill emotions or negativity; which put her back at ease. Kirk sat back as she played against a few other of his friends. The mood had changed for the better and laughter made up for the introduction. By midnight the bar was closing up and she didn’t feel like going to sleep. She hadn’t been swimming in forever; she would go tonight.

“You like swimming?”

He looked at her and smiled, “yes, I actually do enjoy swimming.”

“I was going to go to the pool at the gym. I need to change..”

He smiled and drove them to another spot he usually went to in the summer. He took off her shirt and pants and jumped in the water. She felt weird but she took off her clothes except her bra and panties. She jumped in and it was freezing but she adapted to the water. They swam together and he had her laughing. She didn’t feel uncomfortable with him and he picked her up after she had splashed him with water. The moonlight made it more romantic.

They stared at each other and he kissed her. She felt his tongue and kissed him back. He pulled her closer and grabbed her buttocks but then he remembered what they told him. After a few minutes he let her go. She dove under water and came back up. Her first kiss. She wanted him but he stopped maybe he was teasing her; but his kiss was a passionate one, or was it because she was naive. After a little bit he helped her back into his Jeep. He had some towels for them both; he always carried extra clothes and towel in case he ever needed them.

He smiled, “I got a reprieve this week... they actually approved some off time. So I was thinking of spending time with you.”

She froze wondering if he found out she was rich; she knew soldiers didn’t make enough. She didn’t want to be used in any way.

“I thought we could go to my home this week; since you like to go running, my family’s estate has plenty of grounds to go running.

Emily inside was put at ease because she didn’t think he wanted her money; maybe hopefully just as she is.

The drive up was about an hour away but seeing a cottage she looked at him. He smiled, “that’s my home; my father’s home is further up. We aren’t going to my father’s home.”

“I don’t normally do this; but I enjoy traveling. I thought I would be stuck in one state. I tried enlisting but I didn’t meet requirements.”

“You look fit and you don’t look sick.”

“My weight; I’ll never be string bean enough.”

He looked at her and then at her body. In some ways she too was like a tank. She had curves and thickness; her waist was curved but there was nothing chubby only muscles.

“You’re perfect the way you are; I think you needed to hear that. Is that why you’re always running and working out?”

“I wasn’t athletic or popular in school. I was very chubby and after graduation; just wanted to change. When you hear guys barking at you because you’re chubby, it remains embedded.”

“You are perfect; chubby or not. Real women have curves and are healthy. Girls only want to be seen for their outer body but real beauty comes from within. Looks fade character never does.”

He showed her the spare bedroom and the grounds as they walked he and Emily never said too much; she listened to the sounds around her. She heard nature speak and then the burst of energy wanting her to run. She just sprinted feeling the power of her legs picking up speed. He ran catching up to her and the challenge was accepted. He didn’t want to give away what he really was so kept a steady pace. Through the trails and pathways. Kirk loved her energy and he heard her heart. Emily not thinking just put her hand in the water. Soon an otter came up to her allowing her to pet the small animal. Above them was a red tail hawk.

She smiled, “everywhere I go there seems to be a hawk nearby. Sometimes I think they watch over me.”

The otter left them and went back to where she came.

“You can tame animals?”

“I wished; sometimes I see the animals of people. I connect to animals better then people; I think that but sometimes I think people are so quick to judge what they can’t understand. I know I sound weird. My mother calls me an old soul.”

He listened to her and smiled, “I think she is right about you. What animal do you see with me?”

“A wolf but not like wolves we see everyday. I think you have a lot more going on then what you portray. Secrets and strength that a few have.”

She saw his wolf starring at her a larger wolf like a dire wolf. The eyes of him looked right into her soul. She broke the vision and calmed her spirit. He felt for a moment she was looking into his soul; his wolf was aware that she had seen him, and yet she wasn’t afraid of him. He walked a little closer to her then wrapped his arms around her, “I’m sorry you had gotten hurt by boys; you need never to feel embarrassed or ashamed or less than anyone. You have a beautiful gift of seeing people and things around you; a lot  of people are too involved in themselves and forget we are not perfect.”

She felt his warmth as her fingers touched his flesh. She heard war and screams and death; but she saw that he was in battle saw him trying to carry fallen comrades, his pain of losing many men. She felt his many regrets and  few happiness. His wolf could feel her watching the memories. She looked into Kirk’s eyes and saw herself with a little boy, their child. She broke the connection and for a moment he saw what she saw.

“It’s getting late; we should head back.”

They started on their way when her leg gave out; she had over done it again, but worth it. She loved the country but she shudder staring into the woods. She felt something dark watching. Hair on the back of his neck was standing up; he listened in the silence as it became pronounced. Something was on the hunt for a predator knew a predator and he knew something was near by. He caught a scent in the air and knew some rogues were not too far away. He saw them from a distance; they were on the hunt. He looked at her knowing they were on her trail. Kirk picked her up and started jogging. His muscles were far from being sore; plus her body was soft to the touch. He picked up speed but not enough to give away himself away. Out from the woods, he set her down on the ground once they were closer to his home. She limped a little bit but she worked through the pain; she had an injury last year from a fall. He didn’t ask he just picked her up again and set her on the sofa.

He pulled up her pant’s leg and checked out her leg to her ankle. Her leg was smooth and supple but he got his focus back on her ankle.

“You played a lot of sports growing up?”

“Not till after graduation then I got into jogging and weight lifting. I had an accident last year; I went running and I took an off trail and fell. Twisted my leg the wrong way.”

He got out ointment and then bandage her ankle and propped her foot on a pillow. By nightfall he was cooking dinner and she wanted to help. She chopped up the vegetables and sautéed them with some onions and garlic. Dinner was quiet and this was something different. He didn’t have television in his home. Just a computer and simple things. He had a few pictures assuming they were of his family. On one wall he had older weapons; most of them looked like they belonged in a museum.

“They belonged to my family. My family is Nordic and Ukrainian .”

“My mother’s side is Spanish and my father has Scottish and Cherokee... I probably have other bloodlines.”

They talked some more before she called it a night. He on the other hand smelled his aunt outside the cottage.

There she was outside along with his brothers; Samuel, Vector, Garrard, and Jasper. His aunt Sara was a little annoyed.

“Come Kirk let us talk.”

They walked by the stables where he could still see his cottage.

“You brought a human on to my property; why?”

He snarled, “Aunt Sara, this is my father’s land not yours. I brought you here to take care of my brothers. So let’s start this over please.”

“Why is she here Kirk?”

“I cannot tell you that; I’m under orders.”

“She isn’t welcome here; we already had black dogs searching for her; and we are not enough to fight them off.”

“She will always be welcomed here; last I checked you are not an Alpha. If memory serves me right; I am the one, who let you stay in the mansion. I also remember, I’m the one who prevented you from being a rogue. I hate to bring you before the courts to remind you this.”

“Why do you speak to her like this, brother?”

“Do not question me brother; remember this you all have tried to challenge me but what happened? I’m under direct orders from Alexander; so I advise everyone here to play nice. Now there are rogues on the hunt; All of you are on patrol tonight. And every night till we leave. If I need to bring back up; I’ll call the rest of my pack in. Aunt Sara, let’s not have this discussion again. Remember your place.”

With that his brothers transformed and went on patrol. His aunt growled, “if your uncle were alive; he would have challenged you.”

“Do you want to be banished too? Careful my patience grows thin with you.”

He went back into the cottage and went back into his room. Tonight he would sleep lightly.

Ariel took a small trip to Italia; the elder vampire was known as Papa but his name was Ambrosi D'angelo. He had since shunned the mafia vampires once the crimes his offsprings were unforgivable.

“papà sembra un buon vecchio.”

Ambrosi smiled revealing his fangs, “bellissima, when are you going to leave the German?”

“Not any time soon Papa; I’m sure you know why I am here?”

“You’re always on the hunt; I suspect it’s because of the rebels trying to out smart us pure blood. I’m not happy what they are doing; as you can see they are cut off from my bloodline. But you know this already but there is more you want, right?”

She smiled, “when you’re young; you’ll do stupid things.... I know you still keep tabs on them. I know you still try to cover their messes; but they have something going that’s going to blow up and it’s going to affect us all.”

“You are a very sexy dangerous lady; no wonder many are afraid. Every Rose has thorns but you got poison laced thorns. You’re very good but you’re not seeing the bigger picture.”

He handed her some files and a video, “I knew you were going after the rebels; however I have more respect now that you came to me first.”

“I came here to get answers; you know I’m still going after these rebels; I’m letting you know now, that if they are planning a war, that I will do what I’ve sworn to do.”

Emily took her shower and freshen up. Kirk was still outside and figured he was busy. The bed had  never been used. She slipped under the covers and closed her eyes.

That night she tossed and turned, her dreams were taking her through a dark place. She saw wolves that were not like anything she had seen before. Vampires who were talking about her; she saw a vampire change into a beast that caused fear all around her. She the vampire looked back at Emily. Behind the female she saw war and fire; again her dreams showed her swords and armor that had wolves on it. She saw a war where vampires and werewolves were fighting against a black mist. She woke up sweating trying to catch her breath. On her bed was a dog growling at her and it lounged at her and she started screaming.

“Wake up Emily. Wake up.”

She saw blue with gold eyes looking at her and realizing she was having nightmares. She hugged him because lately her dreams were getting stronger like something was changing; especially after leaving Tennessee. Hugging him she started seeing him with others at a bar listening she heard them say Oracle. She felt strange as she felt a strange beast and hearing a howling from within him.

She let go, “what are you?”

“I’m me.” He said as he realized she was drawing power and she could see through him.

“No you’re different...”

Her head was hurting as she felt a high pitched sound. He grabbed her right before a black dog came at her.

“What the hell is that?”

He grabbed his sword from the wall and swung at the black dog. He knew it wouldn’t be smart to turn in front of her besides black dogs were summoned so werewolf formed wouldn’t help anyhow. She grabbed a glass quickly filled it with water. She started to pray over the water. She tossed it at the black dog and heard it whimpering as it ran away.

“How did you do that?”

“I use to be Catholic but I changed faith. Basically I used holy water.”

“I think we should leave. You’re not safe here and you’ll draw attention in town.”

“What do you mean?”

“You have faith right? Then I’m asking you to trust me, please.”

Outside he heard his brother howling that there were too many of them.

“Go get changed and take this; it’s loaded with silver bullets. Don’t open the door for anyone I’ll be right back.”

His brothers came rushing at him and behind them was several rogues. He transformed and howl at the moon. His brothers halted and turned around for their eldest brother, Kirk was bigger and faster. The rogues saw this and backed off still growling. Inside the house was their target. But who would be the first to attack as the giant white wolf growled.

She quickly changed into jeans and a t-shirt. She looked outside to see that Kirk had changed into the wolf; she wasn’t afraid because he was protecting her from several others. She grabbed the gun as she saw one of the creatures leaping at Kirk.

Kirk prepared for the one that was leaping but a shot was fired. The rogue was in the air but suddenly was whining in pain but the bullet had found it’s mark; falling to the ground with a harsh thud. The pack behind them looked and saw Emily holding the gun. She shot the one in the heart. The rogues looked at their fallen member and started to lunge at her; again she fired as Kirk tackled a couple more, before they could even reach her. She held the gun straight forward bracing herself with the recoil. Each bullet fired had found it’s target. It was adrenaline rush even after she ran out of ammo. Soon more wolves were coming chasing off the rogues. Kirk transformed back into human form and got her back inside. He quickly grabbed a pair of cargo pants and tank top.

Emily looking at him, “Can you at least explain to me what is going on please?”

“Where we are going; they’ll explain a whole lot better.”

He led her back to his jeep and drove. He didn’t say where but she knew by his silence that he was following orders. She didn’t want to go to sleep because she didn’t want to miss anything.

“Where did you learn to shoot?”

“My father was and is always Special Forces, he trained his daughters well. I’ve been shooting guns since I was five years old.”

By 3 am they reached their destination. It was an abandoned building that freaked her out.

“Are you going to kill me or something?”

“I’m not here to hurt you; I’m here to protect you. Your protection was my order to follow and protect you, I will.”

“That’s all I am? An order?”

“You are not; I was seeing you before the order came; I took it because I’m starting to fall in love. I never intended to fall in love; but you’re now mine. And I protect what is mine.”

He led her to the building and typed in the numbers into the box.

“Come.”

Inside was not the gruesome image she had thought but an armory of sorts. She got an image of vampires as she walked inside. Other ones were werewolves and then she looked at Kirk.

“So what do you mean I am yours?”

He smiled, “I am Kirk Stolt of the Dark Moon pack. I am son of Volodymyr Stolt and my mother’s name is  Daryna Kuznetsov. I am an Alpha. Everyone here is a Slayer. We protect and defend those who cannot fight. From the moment I caught your scent I had fallen in love. And I’m not the one to easily fall in love. I already claimed you and in my world, once a werewolf marks their mates it’s binding. We will talk more but we need to get going.”

He suited up and order her some gear to put on.

“Here you’ll need this.”

“Are you sure you have the right person; I mean I’m not anyone special. Not a monster or an immortal; just a Southern gal.”

A woman walked up to them, “You have abilities. Ever wonder why you feel different and can feel other people? I am Esmeralda and we have been looking for you a long time. Your great great great grandmother was a Spaniard. She had abilities too. Kirk here is to protect you from our enemies. We are taking you to Romania for a little while. We got your parents under surveillance; and your sister and her family are being looked after too.”

“Wait Romania... like I’m going to Transylvania?”

Her head was hurting and she was feeling light headed. Next thing she was out cold.

The plane landed behind the building. Ariel and Friedrich along with Vlad III, who came to the warehouse.

“I did not think that she would be discovered that quickly. Water is what she threw on the black dogs.”

“Kirk said she prayed over the water and then threw it on the black dog. She took out three rogue werewolves; she is a very good marksman.”

“Good, she’ll need to know how to defend herself when needed.”

Ariel commented as she and the others made their way inside. on that as they walked in; she looked at Kirk, “She threw holy water basically on the black dogs?”

“Yes your highness.”

Vlad looking around, “Where is the girl?”

“Sire, she um passed out.”

Kirk left the room so that the others could talk. He didn’t want to leave Emily alone; especially while she was passed out.

Esmeralda came up to her friend and cousin and they hugged, “I missed you so much Ariel.”

“It’s good to see you too. It’s been what a year and half?

“Yes... much too long. How are Valentina, little Freddy and Odette?”

“They are into everything; we will catch up later. Where is she sleeping?”

In the back room they saw Kirk holding her; he looked up and bowed.

“How long has she been out?”

“Fifteen minuets.”

“Get her and you guys stuff. We are leaving now.”

Once everyone was seated and the plane fueled; they left.

“Rumors are true... you are a very big werewolf. Noticed you put in for Igor’s regiment.”

“Yes princess; my father was one of Igor’s knights.”

“Don’t you have a pack?”

“I would be gladly to give up my pack to my second brother; he wants to have the pack.”

“Why give it up so easily?”

“I never really cared to be pack leader for my pack. They want someone who wants to have roots. I don’t. I can be better use on the field then stagnant.”

Friedrich nodded, “Why I left home. Being on the counsel has its moments but nothing like going on missions.”

“Yes my lord.”

Vlad and Ariel went to talk in the other part of the plane. And Friedrich went to make phone calls. Kirk stayed next to Emily while she slept.

“I don’t like the fact the werewolf already claimed her; once she is changed, they would be forbidden.”

“Changed? When was the plan to change her considered?”

“The Vampire court has never had an Oracle before and she would be an asset to our Elders.”

“Uncle be honest; you’re building back your kingdom, aren’t you?”

“Yes. For too long our kind has been lost and wondering. Having our kingdom back will bring a sense of order. Our army has control back and it has brought back hope. Humans fight each other and that is not our way.”

“Some of their fights have a just cause. But I agree, our people need a beacon. Uncle it will be an uphill battle but we will see it to the end.”

“Esmeralda still collecting information on the rebels?”

“Yes uncle, we got a few sources to question and then have Emily assist. Let me tell her about the vampire order; she won’t understand, and honestly it’s a shot in the dark. Her and Kirk already bonded...”

He held up his hand with authority, “the matter is closed; yes you may discuss it; but no more about the werewolf and vampire.”

hapter 4

l to be just a dream; but no, there was Kirk, and she was now on a plane.

“This isn’t a nightmare is it?”

“No. It’s real. Are you hungry?”

“Yes.”

He ordered for her and for himself food. She was still in shock; everything she ever read would say she was nuts. Vampires and werewolves and next they’ll tell her big foot is real too.

Ariel chuckled, “Actually big foot is real, he was the chief of police but was voted in as Mayor. His name is Frank Wheeler; just don’t call him big foot. He prefers the title Sasquatch.”

Emily freaked out because in front of her was a vampire and she hadn’t realized they could read her mind.

Ariel smiled, “yes some of us can read minds; yours is still processing everything. I am Mihaela Ariel Warrier-Krüger, but you may call me Ariel. My husband Friedrich Krüger; and this is my uncle Vlad Drăculea III. We know who you are Emily Buchanan; your mother’s family has history, which is why you’re here. Has anyone in your family ever told you about Oracles?”

“I know in my family we have gifts but most people have some sort of gift.”

Vlad looked at her, “That is true; but for you it’s rare.”

Great they think I’m a witch or something from their old country. They made a mistake because I’m just a poor girl who lived near a country dirt road. Hell, even my boots are only worth $35.

“We know you’re not a witch or a monster.”

She looked at them and saw something in Ariel, “are you pregnant?”

Ariel smiled, “Yes, I’m due any day.”

“Like tomorrow you mean. Again I just have a gift. It’s nothing so special.”

Ariel looked at Kirk, “You said she can draw animals to her, yes?”

“Yes and she can see the dire wolf within me.”

“Look Emily we are not here to hurt you. Help us and I promise you, we will provide you and your family safety. We need you to accept the truth. As hard as this truth is; know that knowing the truth is better than running from it. I did and honestly it did more damage then good.”

“You never said if I can return to my life.”

Ariel smiled but she showed Emily sadness too, “You never had a normal life but now you’re stepping into an opportunity to be useful and like me, finding out who you are... it’s scary but everything works itself out. And yes you’ll see your family but everything you know will be different from this day forth.”

“As long as I can see my family from time to time; I’m okay. I just didn’t think a small gift like this is needed.”

Ariel day down in front of her, “Your gift isn’t small. I’m over three hundred years old; I never used my gift to it’s full potential because I was afraid of it. When it came time to surrender to my gift; and then, it saved my life. It’s natural to be afraid but never let fear control you; before the end of this journey, you’ll understand what I’m getting at.”

“The counsel is meeting us Ariel. Apparently we have unfinished business. They want to know what happened last year.”

She nodded, “It was only a matter of time before they would want to know.”

Emily looked at Ariel, “is it about the gargoyle in you because it’s dormant now.”

They looked at her with surprise looked; yes Emily could see the souls of people but monsters didn’t really have souls. She saw each of them; saw their history, like veil had been lifted.

“There was a veil in that town wasn’t there? Why I didn’t know the truth. The lottery, my want to move to Maine and etc. It was all a set up wasn’t it except meeting Kirk.”

Vlad handed her a picture, “That’s one piece already found; we need the others.”

Emily looking at the picture and letting the images come to life, “The Wolf Bane is with Igor. The others are scattered; a couple of them are in Chicago, someone calls them the mafia. They had someone to steal it from the museum. Looks like others want to take your place Vlad. With all these pieces they can kill the elders with them. Even the children of Ariel must die.”

He had gotten his confirmation that his agents had found out. Even Igor and Alexander were in trouble because they too are ancient monsters. The younger generation want to take over; which would be detrimental.

Finally reaching their destination and driving through the old country; Emily was getting annoyed. She wasn’t mad or upset but something was bugging her and she kept her mouth shut and blocked her mind from being read. When they arrived at the castle she was getting sick; she started throwing up. So much pain and suffering and death. She saw so much that Kirk grabbed a blanket and covered her; shielding her.

“I got her; it’s okay.” Kirk carrying her while going up the steps to go inside. Servants greeting them in and going back to work when three children came downstairs. Valentina ran to her mother and then to her dad; Freddy grabbed his mother’s legs and looked at Kirk. Odette looking at woman in the blanket. The little girl raised her hand up to calm the lady down, “It’s okay Ms. Emily, you’re seeing things that had to happen and things that have happened. Our uncle and our parents keep us safe. It will be okay.” The little girl telepathically told the lady the simplicity of the energy she felt.

Emily calming down a lot was able to step down on the floor. Odette hugged her parents and three kids hugged their great uncle. Two kids ran off playing but Odette reached for Emily’s hand. They connected which helped Emily stay calm.

Vlad talking to the servants for the counsel members would be here soon enough; one of the servants guided Kirk and Emily to their room. One room had two beds and it’s own bathroom. She needed a shower and she heard the servant saying dinner would be ready in an hour. She took a quick shower and came in the room in a towel. Kirk looked at her but quickly went into the bathroom. She got out red slacks and matching sweater. She slipped into her white boots and was ready when Kirk came out. He had a towel wrapped around his waist and she saw his chest and abs. He had a few scars but he reminded her of Vikings with his long wet hair and yeah she had to look away. Even though she spent a few days with him; she had learned so much that confusion was still wrapped around her mind. She was upset because everything was a lie. Was Kirk lying too; in her mind images were racing with conversations going a mile a minute. Being here in this castle she got so many pictures and so much emotions. She held her head. He handed her a Tylenol and water. He wasn’t wearing a towel but his chest was still bare.

“Emily, are you okay?”

“Just a pounding headache and apparently a tool for a crypto war; and then there is us. How do I know we are legit and not a facade?”

“I meant everything I said; I’ll spend the rest of my life to prove how I feel about you.”

He kissed her and held her till she let go. She felt warmth on her chest and pulling the crystal to see that it was glowing.

“That’s unusual; but everything right now shouldn’t surprise me, either.”

“I’m sure there will be more for the both of us.”

“You said you would talk more with me; I’m assuming after we eat and are alone.”

“I was approached by a higher  rank about you; I was sworn to keep the mission a secret. There are rumors of rebels trying to kill off ancient crypto; to change the set up and old ways. Example werewolves and vampires are never to mate; to mix the bloodlines. But it’s about power nothing honorable. I am a pure blood; like here in this castle are ancient creatures, pure bloods. Except Vlad’s wife; she was changed. You as an Oracle will be a great use to help us find out what the rebels are doing and where they are getting assistance. The armor they are looking for has it’s own power source. Whoever wears it controls the werewolves’ alliance; which means our king would be killed by all the packs. It had belonged to Igor’s family but a member of his pack betrayed him. The pieces were scattered and it broke treaties. My pack and a few others still remain loyal to Igor; however many went their separate ways. That’s why rogues are coming out of the woodwork. If the wrong person gets the armor; the rogues won’t be hunted down. This war needs to be stopped; because laws and structures that were set, have kept us alive for so long.”

“Can crypto’s marry humans?”

“Some can; however few require their mates to be changed. Not so much for as a necessity, but if offsprings are involved; then the childbirth could kill the human. Plus human life expectancy is limited; once we find our mates, we tend to change them. But there has to be consent. No one can be changed against their will; another reason to stop those rebels. In the past humans were changed and things were chaotic. Rebels are trying to change humans without fully changing them. They are building an army that was believed to have stopped but wasn’t.”

“That’s a lot to swallow all at once.”

“Indeed; let’s go before they send a search party.”

She lightened up as she took his arm and walked with him downstairs. The room was huge and extravagant. She saw the long table with high chairs and a fire place in the room; it was magnificent. Ariel sat next to her daughters; at the end of the table, was her husband next to his son. Vlad at the other end next to his wife. She locked eyes with Emily and Emily shudder. She blocked the images as Kirk pulled her chair back and he took a seat next to her.

“Are you better, my dear?”

She blushed, “I’m sorry about that; I got caught off guard with all the emotions all at once.”

Wine was poured for everyone except the children. They had grape juice with blood mixed in.

Vlad’s wife looked at her husband with jealousy but smiled at Emily.

“Where are you from, Ms. Emily.”

“I’m from Tennessee. I’m an army brat.”

“Your accent isn’t entirely from the south is it?”

“Um no, my mother is from Costa Rica and my father is from the States.”

She looked down thinking of her family and hoping they are faring well. Her nephew was due soon and she hoped to be there for his birth. Everyone was talking in an unknown language for a moment or two; which gave her a reprieve from all the stares. Emily looking up saw a woman walk behind Ariel; she looked at everyone to see if they saw her and no one paid attention. The woman went walking starring at her and signal her to follow.

“Excuse me for a moment.”

She followed the woman to a picture; she was very beautiful. Her eyes and getting lost into a memory. She heard metal moving when an armor set came alive and she barely ducked when the spear struck the wall. She came back into the hall running as the armor followed her. Kirk tackled the armor when black smoke came out following Emily. Emily didn’t know where she was going but followed her senses; up ahead was a chapel and dove inside the room. She grabbed the cross and repeated the Latin she was taught. The black mist left her. She just fell to her knees and just started praying and crying.

She realized no one could protect her from these phantom spirits, that were after her.

“Just leave me alone, please.”

Kirk crept towards her slowly, “I’m not leaving you here alone.”

Odette left everyone and went to her mother’s room and ran back to Emily.

“Here, it’s my mommy’s she bought this because I told her I wanted it. It’s a silver cross; I didn’t know why till now. Here, please take it.”

Emily trying to calm down took the silver necklace. The cross was pure silver.

“Thank you....”

“I found this book in my uncle’s library. He is a collector of sorts. I think this book will give you some insights.”

Her smile was warm for a young vampire. The little girl whispered, “My mommy was attacked by a wolf spirit the night my siblings and I were born. I still see it sometimes too.”

“I’ve seen a lot of things too growing up. Somethings that I wished I never seen.”

“Lets go back because your food is getting very cold.” The little girl reached for Emily’s hand and was close to her. Once everything settled back down; Odette ran back into the kitchen, and grabbed some salt. She made a ring on the floor around Emily.

“Mommy can we take Emily shopping tomorrow?”

“Yes darling.”

The little girl moved her plate and goblet to be next to Emily.

Vlad smiling at his niece, “Darlin explain the salt.”

“Uncle Vlad, it suppose to keep bad spirits away. Iron does the same thing and silver. Mommy’s demon wolf is here; it’s why he is attacking Emily. The crystal Emily is wearing also needs to be explained to her; it holds it’s own power.”

Chapter 5

Demon Wolf

Everyone looked at Odette, especially her mother.

“Darling, mommy killed that spirit.”

“No mommy, you broke the bond, not the spirit. It’s searching for a new host. Because Emily is a pure soul plus her gifts; that makes her even more a target.”

Friedrich looking at his wife then Vlad, “We need to get information; I believe my daughter, but the counsel will want confirmation.”

Kirk just watched silently at the little girl; who was now eating her meal. He glanced at Emily and wondered what kind of mother she would be. Then his thoughts went back to fighting ghosts; he had fought many things in the last fifty years, but never a phantom. Once Emily was done, she got her plate and goblet together, but a servant came to collect everyone’s dishes. She blushed, forgetting where she was, and stayed seated. Everyone went into the parlor room, waiting for the council to come. Ariel went upstairs with her babies as a nanny for the children followed. Emily sat near the fire place her palm in front of the flames. The flames danced before her as she motioned her hand to make a fire globe.

She hadn’t done that since childhood, but tonight she needed something to keep her mind at peace. “Is there anything you can’t do?”

“I can’t fly.” She laughed at Kirk.

Vlad watching the fire being made into a globe, “A small favor you say.”

“I can do a few things, but to me, it’s a curse and not a gift.”

His hands turned to flames, and he shot a fireball at her; Emily held up her hands and spread the flames and hurled it into the fire place. Everyone jumped back as flames danced around Emily. She had went into a trance. The surrounding flames did not burn her or anything else. In flames exposed a bird that many would call a phoenix. The power within lifted her up to it faded elsewhere.

Ariel coming down the stairs to join everyone; she noticed everything was silent. She grabbed her dagger only to see Emily wrapped in flames. She, too, witnessed the phoenix and saw the flaming bird fading away. Her body crashed onto the floor. Everyone trying to grasp what they just witnessed and Kirk touched Emily's skin, “She is ice-cold.”

They took her to the infirmary and Kirk watched over her. He didn’t sleep, just stayed with her.

Vlad paced upstairs, struggling to figure out what he just witnessed with his eyes.

“What the hell was that?”

“I don’t know, but this isn’t just a simple Oracle either. She took your flames and from her a phoenix emerges.”

“So maybe she takes the power of elements and uses them. This is more than what I thought. I just know that she isn’t telling us everything, or she doesn’t even know herself.”

“You think she doesn’t really know herself; sounds familiar, my niece.”

She looked at her uncle with a grin, “There was a time I was afraid of what was inside; when we fear it keeps us from accepting ourselves.”

“I agree; but you, my dear; still don’t accept yourself fully either.”

“It’s true. I am at war with myself; I don’t recognize my limits....”

“These vampire gifts; every one of us has some sort of gift, if we deny our abilities we become weak, and then we become victims. We are at war Ariel; one day you’re going to have to let go of that fear.”

“It’s one thing to create fire and blow things up uncle; it’s another when you morph into a creature where you attack everything and it takes your children to calm you down. I could’ve killed my children, but....”. She took a long sigh and looked at her; she herself struggling to understand it all.

“My dear, just tell me.”

“Uncle, I believe Odette and Emily are a major piece to this puzzle.”

“The counsel will want to know more; right now we don’t have a clue.”

Ariel went to the boxing ring and was punching and trying to forget the beast she had inside her. Friedrich found her and decided to spar with her, “Just remember go easy on me, my love.”

“Once you step in this ring; I can’t promise you anything.”

She and her husband spar; she was grateful he knew when she needed to vent he was there. He would always be there to be a rock when she felt herself sinking.

“Ariel your uncle thinks you cage your beast; I think he is right.”

He blocked her punch, and he punched back, getting her in a lock. She went limp and got out of the grip and crescent kicked him, pushing him backward. They moved into a yin yang stance, and this time he moved quickly as she tried to block. She fell to the floor and got back up as her inner beast growled. She stopped and wanted to run but Friedrich held her down, “Stop running my love. You need to avoid preventing yourself from learning who you are; I love you but stop running.”

“I’m afraid I’m going to hurt those I love.”

“Then learn to tame the beast within you.”

He pulled her into the chamber, “Ariel let your beast out. Stop fighting yourself and face your fear.”

“No. Let me out, Friedrich.”

“No.”

Ariel pacing back and forth and getting angry. She remembered the day she found out her mother was murdered; when she was nearly killed, everything that changed her.

Igor came out because Friedrich had called him.

“She is resisting her inner beast.”

He nodded, “Ariel, you got to talk to her; focus your energy because if you don’t concentrate on yours how can you help Emily or one day, Odette.”
