“Get out of my house,” dad bawled at me
“I can’t live like this, if you think following my dreams is an act of rebellion, then let it be. I am leaving this house.” I replied to him with a turbulent voice.
“I am throwing you out of this house, go to hell.” dad replied with concluded words
“Hell is a better choice than staying with you.” screamed at dad, I want him to realize that I don’t need him
I sat in my old car and started driving towards my grandpa’s house,
it is a 14-hour journey.
I needed to see my grandpa; he lives in Alaska, Fairbanks is one of the best places in the world to view the northern lights as it’s located directly under the Auroral Oval
With the icy air, it’s clear I am near my other home. I see grandpa standing outside trying to clean ice from his car’s bonnet.
“Hello, grandpa. Did you miss me?” I am always happy to see him, he still looks young with a built of a heavy man.
“Hey Damon, what a surprise boy,” his eyes sparkled with bliss
“I came here to meet you both, how are you and where is grandma.”
I asked with a shivering voice
“She is traveling,” grandpa sighed
“Traveling where?” curious I asked, as the weather looks bad.
“She will be back soon, let’s go inside, a storm is coming and you look bad.” he ignored my curiosity and took me inside,
“Well, how come you here at this time of the year. Is there something you want to tell me? Did you fight with your dad again?” He stares at me with a smirk on his face.
I looked around to ignore his question but I knew later I have to answer this question
“Yes, grandpa fought and drove here, and I am not going back.” putting my backpack on the ground waiting for his reaction, I whispered
“Ok, would you like to have some tea,” he changed the topic wisely.
“Yes, I would love too. But before that, I need a hot shower.” I looked at myself in the mirror;
“Go upstairs, the shower is not working here,” pointing towards the stairs
After having a relaxing shower, I came down. My tea was ready with some snacks, "It was refreshing; Thank you for this hot tea."
We sat on the couch and started the television,
"Primetime world news, Scientists and Archeologist came together to work on the biggest project of this decade; Does giant exists on earth or not?"
The news rolls over me like an old Russian tank, slow and meaningless, carrying on as if nothing happened. There is not a single thing I can do about any of the crap I just heard, and all of it makes me feel like bilge.
Grandpa increased the volume,
" Here as we can see in google earth pictures; scientists found seven gigantic holes on the earth's surface; Are these holes made by the asteroids or something else.
We will dig in more after this short break stay tune," the anchor read the story like a puppet.
"It's fake, they are making fake news to draw people's attention," can't resist me to react on this news
"You young generations, why can't you trust your people. They might have found something," he furrowed his brows on me.
"I don't believe any of this exists; don't tell me you believe all this crap. Do you?" I questioned his old age.
"I believe they found something; they are working in the correct direction," tried to convince me with his unconfirmed explanation.
"Grandpa, you're old now. Don't want to be impolite, but you don't know the outer world, the world is different from what these peoples shows us in here." tried hard to explain the real scenario.
"So you think I am old enough not to understand these facts; do you believe in God, angels or not," his voice was full of confidence, as like his body language.
"I am just telling you the fact; people used to say aliens made pyramid; And yes, I don't believe in God, devil or angels, any of them." strongly I served my point looking into his eyes.
"I just believe what I see and feel, these holes might be some volcano eruptions or some movement of tectonics plated of the earth," I added.
He was silently looking towards me with a smirked smile on his face;
I felt like something else was going on in his old rusty mind.
I contemplated victory for this conversation, but his smile showed that here I am, the stupid one who doesn't understand the actual world.
"Why are you smiling at me like this? Prove to me if I am wrong," without deviating my words, I fired my question,
"Nothing, I am looking at you. You think whatever you see or feel is the truth, what about those things which you can't feel or sense?"
he started again.
"Grandpa, I give up. It's hard for me to make you old people understand anything; it's you or dad," I rest my case.
But Grandpa didn't want to give up. He looked at me and said, "Your rebellious nature is your identity; I was rebellious to my father. He threw me out of his home." He purred with a hidden message in his smile.
"You're right to make our father understand about anything is difficult; our desires, our actions. But I would like to evince you something; there is a world beyond your senses and feelings; the actual one," he stood and kept his glasses on the old wooden desk.
I wished grandma to be here; she would have saved me. He is my dad's dad, how did I forget he will not quit without proving his standpoint to me.
"Grandpa, I told you what I believe, there is no way you can prove about the existence of God, devil or angels," uninterested, I answered.
He was smiling, and this time its ear to ear; I thought without resisting him; It captured me in his machination.
He bought 2 pegs of whiskey; it's getting strange.
"Grandpa, we just had our tea. Now we are going o drink whiskey," confused with his strange behavior; we never had whiskey together. This was our first time.
"I want to tell you a story, but the condition is you have to listen to it completely once it starts; second you're allowed to ask only three questions from the story," he looks excited with his wrinkled face and eyes.
This looked interesting; he wanted to prove his point with a story; I wanted to say no but, I said yes looking towards his changed attitude; it was a good way to spend time without grandma.
"Ok, let's see how you're going to prove your point through a story," I laughed for this reason.
