Chapter Five

“Sorry, but we have to leave," Bree said in an apologetic tone, she held onto Jay's hand pulling her.

I did not even get the chance to offer her a tissue. Lisa followed behind them waving on her way out. I immediately ran to my closet fixing the shoes they completely messed up. I have been wanting to fix that for the longest while, it was starting to perplex me wow

I looked over at my phone on the night table vibrating, I just realized I have not used it for a while. I am surprised it still had battery life. I unlocked it realizing I had fifty messages from Chelsea. I could not even read them all

Hey Chels! I am so sorry I'm just replying been so caught up and trying to adapt to this new environment. Daniel is still an ass; mom has been so scarce. She’s so busy getting herself set up in terms of work. Steve is okay, I guess. Daniel's friends are so weird, but they are all hot! Both girls and boys. His girlfriend she’s way out of his league but she’s snobby but you'd never know until she opens her mouth so I can see why they are together lol.

I hit send trying my best to fill her in as best as I could. Less than a minute she responded.

Chelsea - omg! Send me pics of everything your room, the house, Daniel friends! Lol, any of the boys single;)?  2:30 p.m

My mouth fell open, as I read Chelsea's last message. I told her about everything that took place in my room which led her to speculate that there is a possibility of Jayde being pregnant. There were no signs of that, but then she could have been in the early stages.

"Hey" I jumped a bit almost losing grip on my phone. He startled me.

"Hey," I said slowly.

"Can I enter?" Christopher laughed.

"Yeah sure," I answered still unsure as to why he was in my room.

He started walking around taking in every detail of my room. I thought this was the perfect time to snap a picture for Chelsea. I held the phone up in front of my face pretending I was looking at my reflection. He turned around looking at me weirdly then smiled. I held down on the little circular thing on the screen of my iPhone snapping three pictures.

"What are you doing?" He asked as he raised an eyebrow

"I-I think something went into my eye," I said hoping it sounded as believable to him as it did to me.

"I could look at it for you," he said coming closer to the bed.

"No, I got it" I quickly said.

He did not listen though he came to the side of the bed where I sat. He leaned over as he gently held my face in his hand, his touch sent an electrifying feeling through my body. I stayed still not knowing what to do as his eyes scanned mine.

"It looks fine," he said softly.

The breath of mint air greeted my face. He was even more beautiful up this close. His Roman nose and half-dome freckled cheekbones sat above an oaken jaw. His skin was silky smooth with dark brown eyes which gave off a soft look. I shook my head because I was dumbfounded by his beauty.

"You'll be fine," he said giving me his glimmering smile.

"Do you know where the girls went and how come they left you that’s not cool" He frowned. I was not sure if I should tell him the truth about Jay breaking down or just go by Daniel's no snitching rule.

"Jayde started crying about something she's afraid to tell you so they left to have a private conversation," I said loudly in my mind.

My mind was telling me to say all of that, but I could not, and I hated lying. Furthermore, it was not my place to get involved like that.

"I don't know where they went." I finally said technically that was the truth I had no clue where they went. "I have no problem with them leaving me behind either"

"You aren't social." He said rubbing his hands slowly together as he tilted his head a little still keeping his focus on me as if he was looking deeply into my soul.

"No, I am not" I confirmed.

"You prefer to stay home and read romance or mystery novels because they give you the excitement or thrill your life lacks. You have an unbothered attitude. You don't like arguments or confrontation because it triggers your anxiety. However, if it's something you care about, you'll go head-on. You're a simple girl, you don't fuss once you are comfortable. You are very timid, so you hate when you’re stared at because it makes you uncomfortable. I know this because every time I stare your body language changes. These are a few things I've picked based on observation. Correct me if I'm wrong I love reading people " He said, my mouth was basically on the floor. That was creepy but cool.

My room said it all, I had two book stands filled with only the two genres of books he mentioned. Most people would find that creepy, but it was impressive. I hated the fact that I was so transparent but everything he said was the truth, there was no denying that.

"Wow." I laughed even though I should be embarrassed.

"I'm just very observant it’s just kind of my thing," he said scratching the back of his head.

"Let me try, you aren't the only one good with observation. I think you are the strong silent type who stays to himself yet is an ordinary guy. Girls may flock to you due to the mystique that surrounds your persona. You can be rough, strong, and sensitive. Your focus here is on being in charge and being in control, I picked those up based on the little stories Bree and Lisa filled me in on, just like me you seem easy-going, how did I do?"

"Not bad you scratched the surface, you are good" he laughed giving me a little a clap.

"Well, I'm going home. I'll see you around." He said giving me that same weird electrifying rush through my body again.

He walked out of my room closing the door behind him. I looked over at the clock realizing it was dinner time. There wasn't any sign of Mom or Steve so I should probably go make something.

"Cyrene" I heard Daniel; I'm surprised he didn't barge in.

"Come in" I started mentally preparing myself for his irrelevant 'roast' as Joshua calls it.

"I'm going to buy some Chinese food are you interested in accompanying me? Well, that’s if you can fit in my car."

Why am I not surprised he would be mean at the end of a friendly gesture? It was still nice of him to consider me because he could have just gone. Progress?

"Yeah sure, as long as your legs can reach the gas pedal, let me go put something on." He thinks he's the only one with shots.

"That wasn't funny. I'm hungry so come as you are or don't," He said walking off. Maybe not. Wow, my bad for mentioning that.

I picked up my phone realizing Chelsea was blowing it up. I went downstairs to see Daniel waiting. There was no sign of Christopher or Joshua so I'm guessing he left when Chris did. I got into Daniel's Mercedes Maybach, while he ensured the place was locked up properly. The interior was nice, this seems like a really expensive car for him to be driving, the life of a rich kid.

He got in and the atmosphere just changed, he just always had this negative energy with him causing everything to be awkward. He backed out of the driveway and I just got busy on my phone since it was the perfect distraction.

"Who are you texting you don't have friends." Daniel laughed; I was so caught up with Chelsea I almost forgot I was in a car with him.

"What is your problem with me?" I was getting tired of him.

"It was just a question chill out," he said in a defensive tone.

"My neighbor Chelsea, she is my best friend more like a sister though," I answered him.

"Oh, that's like me and Chris neighbor and best friend all in one," he said.

"Guess we have something in common" I laughed.

"And you just had to ruin it don't ever say that" he laughed too but it wasn't a good one because I know he was laughing at me not with me.

"So, what you do for fun?" He asked which surprised me. A sentence without a mean or rude content.

"Read, eat, and sleep. I like going out to the movies or shopping. How about you?"

"Well I like chilling with my friends, video games, or shooting hoops" he answered, I was going to run a height joke but since we were doing so good, I left it. Shooting hoops ha!

"Why were you homeschooled wasn't that weird?" He added

"Mom was very overprotective she thought it was a safer environment from bad influence. She also thought I'd learn better since the teacher is only focusing on me. I wouldn't know if it's weird since it's the only thing I'm used to. I could ask you the same thing if going to a regular school wasn't weird, Chelsea was homeschooled too so at one point we merged" I explained.

"Wow, I asked a simple question and you gave me a speech, but I get what you mean," he said.

I nodded and soon the awkward silence filled the car until it came to a stop. I looked out the window realizing we were here.

"I want mallah chicken with fried rice and shrimp mixed vegetable chow mein and you can get whatever you want," he said sticking the money in my direction. I took the money and then went inside.

The workers showed excellent customer service. I was out in a jiff getting everything Daniel and I wanted. He opened the car door from inside since it would've taken me a long time because of how full my hands were.

"The workers are so nice one of the-"

"Can I have some quietness in this car." he snapped hissing his teeth, I looked at him confused because five minutes ago we were cool.

"Why--" Before I could even start my sentence properly, he turned on his music drowning out my voice.

Well then...

Christopher Graham“Your stepsister is stunning."Joshua attempted to whisper to Daniel, however, I heard him as clear as day.We all looked at her walking towards us with the bottles of water we had requested. I collected mine meeting her stare, she nervously looked away then proceeded to Daniel and Joshua. He was not lying; she was gorgeous. I could not help but admire her beauty. She had a sculpted figure with a tapered waist and a perfectly glossy complexion. A pair of arched eyebrows looked down on sweeping eyelashes. Her delicate ears accompanied her button nose. A set of dazzling teeth gleamed at me as she did that nervous smile when she had caught me staring. It was a pleasure to see her midnight black hair caught in a bun on top of her head. Her enticing dark brown eyes gazed at me over her plump heart-shaped lips. I was in a committed relationship, but I could not help it. I was amazed by her beauty; I could easily imag

I jumped up out of my sleep, hastily searching around the room to find the idiot that had a death wish.Daniel should have known.I rolled my eyes as I laid back on my pillow."Breakfast is ready," he cheekily added then made his way towards the door.I rolled around, stretching my limbs as I mentally prepared myself to get up.I did not realize I had fallen asleep. I sat up, yawning out a groan as I thought about the killer headache that would accompany me throughout the day because of how he went about waking me up.I finally made my way off the bed and quickly straightened it up before making my way to the bathroom to get myself cleaned up; I am sure everyone would appreciate not being scared this early in the morning."Good morning," I greeted everyone at the table as I took a seat."You look well-rested," I heard the smile in Mom's voice as she turned

After days of this so-called road trip, we were finally at our destination. As we pulled into the circular driveway, I looked at the large building we would now call our home. I was at a loss for words to describe it, but it was better than what I had envisioned.I got out of mom's van looking around in awe, this place made my previous house look dilapidated."Rachel, what do you think?" I heard Steve's voice from behind us, I was so caught upwith taking in its beauty that I did not realize when he and Daniel joined us."It's even more beautiful in person," she finally responded."Daniel, please show Cece around. Rachel and I have some things to discuss," Steve spoke once more. I could not contain my eagerness when Daniel gestured for me to follow him.It was an immaculate, professionally-designed 2-story condo with a private deck and patio which invites comfort and exudes modern elegance.&nb

Cyrene Parris(See-reen)I taped up the last box, sighing in frustration my mood saddened as I looked around my now empty room. I moved the box to join the others against the wall and made my way to look out the window. The July sun warmed my face as the 'For Sale' sign mocked me in the front yard. My thoughts wandered. The last 13 years of my life spent here practically changed and forgotten at the declaration of 'I Do' from my mother and her new companion.Although I moved here at the age of 4, this is where I made the most memories that I now held so closely to my heart. I could not imagine my life away from the sweet but hustling city of New York. I found it strange that we were moving back to California. We originally lived there but after we left my mother had nothing good to say about the state until now. What was even stranger to me was how quickly they got married. After three months of dating that seemed beyond
