My birthday party

Chapter two

We have just concluded the osin festival and in the festival i made three friends which are Ken,Andy and Mike.ken was 14 years,andy  was 14 years too while Mike was 16 years.They were friendly and kind, that was the first real friends i had in my life because others don't relate with me because their families were rich and we were poor.

It was the tenth of October which was my birthday,that day was terrible,so terrible.

That day i woke up about 10:00am in the morning and after saying morning prayer greeted my mom but that morning my mom was sad,so sad that anyone can see it in her eyes.As soon as she saw that i was looking at her she changed and acted as if everything  was fine,Then i asked her what the problem was and she said to me Jonas you know that i love you,i said yes that i know then she burst into tears,she cried and said that she knows that today was my birthday and that if she had had money would have bought something for me but she doesn't and that food in the house was finished,at first i cry because i was hungry but remembered  that my mom had cancer and i don't want to make her think too much so i stopped crying and asked her what we were going to do,then she said that let her go out and beg the people she knows if they can help i said okay mom.

I was very hungry to the extend i started drinking water upon water so that it could reduce the hunger,it was 2:00pm in the afternoon and my mom has not still come home. I was about to die so i left the house to the field to play football game because that was the only way i could forget about the hunger and when i got there the football game had not started and everybody was still standing and waiting for them to select players so when i showed up they started choosing i was not selected but one who came 5 minutes after i came was choosen,I was not angry until one of the person who was the one that selected players came to me and said since i was born poor and also i  was from a poor family i should get out of the football field that it was meant for the rich and not the poor. I was very angry but i reason it again and i said in my mind that i was not to be angry because my father told me that no matter the present condition i have to keep my dreams burning in my mind and more over i did not come to the field because of him so i had to sit, watch and forget about the matter. As i i watched the football match it was as if the hunger reduced maybe because of my happiness as i watched the match that was the only thing that could make me forget about the hunger. At the end of the match the goals was 5 goals to 1 goal,the guy who made me angry their team got only one goal and they lost.

After the match i went home and on my way home the hunger came back and then i was more hungry and tired,it was some minutes past 6 o'clock and i have not eaten since morning and when i got home my mom was just get back, when i saw her i ran and met her helped her carry the bag she was holding and asked her what kept her so long and she started by telling me to get her water after that told me that  she stayed that long was because she had to go to work in order to see money that they will use in eating, she told me that we were going to drink garri and salt and i agreed though, thatday was my birthday but Ie had no choice. So i serve the garri and the salt and we started eating,as we were eating my mother started crying and then she called my name saying "Jonas i am sorry"i asked why then she said for making you suffer like this it is not your fault but i and my husband, please forgive us.at first i want to get angry but i reason that if I got angry it will not help the situation so i said stop crying mom i understand it is neither your fault too.then she smiled a little bit as we continued eating,when we were done with eating the food i cleared and cleaned the table.when i was done she called me and told me to can let us have a short prayer,in the prayer she started by saying"father in heaven we thank you for this food which you have blessed us with,we thank you for keeping us till this moment and also we thank you for making Jonas birthday to be successful may you reign for ever and ever" and i Amen to the prayer and so she then told me to my room to sleep and i said yes ma. When i got to my room i lay down on the floor as usual to sleep and i sleep.

In the morning the following day I got up as usual prayed in my room and went to greet my mom but as i got to her room she was not awake which was unusual of her and then i woke her up and greeted her after greeting her i went out to arrange the house and also to sweep it when i was done which that i went to my mom and when i got to her,she said jo as you know that your school is to resume tomorrow and i do not have any money to pay and also she told me that we have not even completed the previous term school fee and i said i knew but i asked what we were going to do and she said that she will sell her husband old bike and use that to raise money to settle my school fee since my uncle was not around for he had traveled  to Lagos State for his work and will not come any time soon and also we don't have any phone to call him. so i said okay,then she left the house and i went to the field to train and so that I will not be at home all alone at home.when i was closed to the field i saw one of the friends i said i made that  night at the festival by name ken he was 14 years old and I was senior told him and when we met,we greeted our selves and. after we went to the field together when we got there we were discussing about our passion and he said that he loves playing football and i said mine which was ball.lucky for us the ball game (match) has not begin, I and my friend ken were chosen to play by opposite team at the end of the match the team i belong to got 3 goals and theirs same with me having two goals score and him also so. Since that day our friendship begin to tighten and when i got home that day my mom was already home and as soon as i entered the house she called me and gave me the school fee for that year i was in ss1 in the senior secondary and we were in the first term.

When i got to the school the following day dressed in my uniform my class mate started laughing because of the shoe which i was wearing but i had nothing to do because i wasI was not working and my mom had no money so i don't have any choice than to wear the old shoe which I was given when I was nine years old however, i would have bought if we had the money. After the assembly as we walked into our classes,a girl from my class called me a poor thing and then i feit depressed because how i which my dad was here he would have done something about it or even my uncle he would have also done something,all through the class I did not answer,ask or talk any thing I was so sad and would not like to say anything. After the school has closed i went straight to the football field to at least have a little fun and thank God we i got there they were just ending the first match and was about to start another one and the people selecting members to join their team i knew them,so i was choosing into the match to play so i played very well as usual and ken was present though he was not choosing but was happy the way i played and so after the match he told me that he wanted me and him to train daily and i agreed and so we went home together and talked at length but when i got home i found my mother....
