Chapter Three

“Honey is that you?” mom called out from the kitchen as soon as I entered the house.

“Yes, mom I am home” I replied walking upstairs slowly hearing out for mom.

“Why so early it’s just one?”

“Class ended early mom” I replied.

“Oh! Okay then freshen up and come here I am preparing lunch. Can’t wait to hear your story” she said in tone which was filled with so much excitement.

I always have the habit of telling mom about my new experience whenever I do new things and I really like sharing things with her. After Kristen she is my best friend. I would say after Kristen and Nigel, my sister but at present she is studying in States. So our conversation happens rarely. But I do miss her a lot.

I threw my bag aside and plonked on my soft bed. I felt exhausted so lying on my back I closed my eyes. As I took deep breath suddenly green eyes appeared on my mind. That handsome face and that twice blink of green eyes made me blush. For the first time in my life I was having crush on someone. God the feeling was so good and made me feel so alive.

As I was lost in deep thought about the boy reading books at the corner table I startled when my cell phone rang. I got up slothfully and retrieved my cell phone from my bag.

“Hello…” I said tucking the phone on my ear and lying back on the bed.

“What are you doing?” asked Kristen from the other side of the phone.

“Nothing just taking rest, why?” I replied.

“Don’t tell me you were blushing thinking about that bookworm.”

I was so shocked hearing her “God how did she knew that?” I thought deep inside.

“Second of silence means I am right you were definitely thinking about him right?” she chuckling.

“Kristen please, stop mocking me” I said in annoyance.

“Okay fine I am home alone and I am feeling so boring can I come over?”

“Of course, since when have you started taking permission to come here?” I was astonished.

“I don’t know. You know what I have a feeling going in new school I feel like old Kristen is no more she seems to be updated into new version. I am also astonished hearing myself asking permission to come over…” she quipped.

“Then I would like to invite new Kristen to my house for lunch. New Kristen do you mind having lunch with me?” I gave witty laugh.

“I would definitely not mind to have delicious lunch made by mom… what she is preparing by the way?” she asked out of curiosity.

I walked out of my room and looking downstairs I called out “mom what is there for lunch?”

“Chowmein why?”

“Did she said chowmein?” asked Kristen joyfully.

“Yeah…” I replied to her and said back to mom “Kristen is also coming over mom.”

“Wow that’s great it’s her favorite isn’t it? Tell her to hurry up and come before it gets cold” mom shouted out from the kitchen.

“I am on my way Prisha” said Kristen and hurriedly hung up.

I kept back my phone and walked to the washroom.

“Really?” mom exclaimed.

“Yes, mom and he didn’t let us to have any introduction to anyone” I said in between chewing.

“That is rude” mom said drinking the water.

“But one thing you know what mom there are so many handsome seniors and I have even paired one with Prisha. He is so handsome.”

Hearing Kristen I choked out. I hurriedly grabbed the glass and drank the water.

“Stop it Kristen” I said as soon as I kept the glass back at the table.

“Really? What is his name?” mom asked in curiosity.

“Mom please don’t start. She is just kidding” I tried to stop them because once mom and Kristen start talking shits like these they will not stop until pestering me like hell.

“His name is Aster and he is so handsome, cute, dashing and many more. I am telling you he is perfect match for her” said Kristen ignoring my gesture to stop.

“If he is that perfect then why don’t you marry him and let me alone for god sake” I said in annoyance.

“Finally, I will get my son-in-law. Invite him for lunch some other day” mom said in excitement.

“Mom…”

“Let you alone? Really? So that you can marry your new crush that bookworm?”

I dropped my spoon and glanced at Kristen with my wide eyes.

“Why does she have to say that?”

“Crush? Who is it? Who is it?” mom asked in curiosity.

“I think I am done with my lunch you two chitchat and enjoy because I am going back to my room” I said getting up.

But mom pulled my wrist “okay, okay sorry. Please finish your lunch first. We will not discuss anything.”

“Yeah, at least finish it Prisha. It is bad habit to waste food you know that right?” Kristen said giving me a witty smile. She was really enjoying pestering me.

I sat back glaring at her and ate my lunch hurriedly. As soon as I completed eating I ran back to my room. I was so angry with Kristen that I had made up my mind that I was never ever going to talk with her.

I locked my room and sat on my bed. In a while there was knock on the door. I didn’t gave any response and kept on scrolling through my phone. I thought she would knock again but there was no second knock. I felt strange.

“Did she return back? This easily?” I thought deep inside and waited sometime for the knock but still she didn’t knock neither did she called out.

I slowly climbed down the bed and walked to the door making sure not to make any noise. As I peeped through the keyhole I didn’t saw anyone. I got angrier now.

“How could she go away even not apologizing? Not even making an effort.”

I angrily pulled the door and suddenly she fall with her back on the floor hitting her head hard on the ground.

She screamed “ah…” and closed her eyes.

I panicked and crouching in front of her I called her out patting her cheeks “Kristen open your eyes. Kristen wake up…” she was not opening her eyes neither was giving any response.
