She had been close to the top end of her graduating class from Tsinghua University which is a major research university in Beijing, and a member of the elite C9 League of Chinese universities. Giving up on sleep, Changying stepped from her bed and headed for the kitchen, thinking a cool drink might help settle her fevered imagination. Pulling up at a medical centre he got out quickly as she bent to grab up her bag shoving the contents back into it roughly. Her car door opened, and he stood there watching her for a moment, "Leave the rest we can get it when we are done." He took her hand and pulled her from the car, ushering her before him into the waiting room, "Is Mr. Jack on?" He asked the receptionist, who nodded, "Good tell him I will be in surgery 2." Back at the office, Changying hunted through her bag looking for gum or a tictac, anything to take her mind off her empty stomach. The longer than expected visit to the doctor had meant forgoing any sort of lunch. She came up with some butterscotch and tearing the plastic off, popped it in her mouth savouring the sweet creaminess of it. Grabbing some change she went to grab a coke from the machine thinking the sugar would give her the burst she needed to get through the rest of the afternoon. Changying could hear the laugh before she saw her mother, 'Oh no, she promised never to come to work.'
