CHAPTER THIRTEEN

The man who was obviously in charge of that cell was seated, nobody came near him. He was calm, relaxed and his face was dead. It was difficult to tell whether he was sorry or not. He had been there for seventeen days. His friends called him 'disaster', how he ended up with that name no one knew. Everyone called him 'disaster’ and the name 'disaster' swallowed his real name. Whenever he had a reason to tell anyone his real name, that person either would end up laughing or with a mouth opened wide in surprise thinking 'are you serious?'

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Their car was unusable and so they found a taxi cab to use, a cab whose owner abandoned without hesitating to leave the keys in the ignition, saving his life came first, and he did save his life, partially, for his means of livelihood was now gone. They managed to get past checkpoints without much trouble because of the cab; it was a blessing in disguise.

Chidi was speechless, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. There are many things to be said about africans. Africans are hardworking, Africans are lazy, Africans are loving, Africans are easily engaged in religious crisis, Africans are forgiving, just give them a reason and they will forgive you, ask politicians and they will explain more. You hear africans are corrupt, Africans are not corrupt. Africans love easy wealth, Africans toil for their wealth.

Ayuba was home alone when a woman came asking for his mother. She had borrowed money from his mother and promised to pay as soon she received her alert. Well, she had gotten her alert and had now come to redeem herself, maybe against tomorrow; in case she needed to borrow money from his mother again. CHAPTER NINETEEN

Richard Cory. Before Nandem found himself in police cell, his friends called him Richard Cory, from Edward Arlington’s poem ‘ Richard Cory' and that became his moniker. He too was a gentleman but Richard Cory’s end was the difference- Richard Cory in spite of his wealthy and affluence committed suicide, he shot himself in the head. Nandem was still alive, Nandem wouldn’t kill himself. Some didn’t even know how that name came about, for those lucky enough to have read the poem or known about the poet, they carelessly assumed his love for the poem made him name himself Richard Cory.

CHAPTER TWENTY

“There was a friend of mine who told me a story. He said somebody had told him the story and that 'somebody' too had said somebody told him the story.” When a story starts like that, then you should know it is either a complete lie or, or , or…, just know when a story starts like that, then there is a problem with it, maybe for plausible denial in case there was a backlash at the end of the story. Nandem’s father couldn’t wait to hear that story.
