Crouching in a platform high above the crowd, Luna watched the scene below with wide eyes and clenched fists. Two blazing fires erupted from the immense fireplaces at the ends of the halls.It didn't make sense to her at first considering vampires were cold-blooded creatures but then Cederic had also mentioned that they had guests from the other realms who wished to forge alliances and be in the Vampire King's good graces.The room was awash with golden light. Torches glowing yellow and orange lined the walls in golden sconces, their cheery light reflected by goblets, sword hilts, jewels and golden plates for those who didn't drink blood, of course.At one end of the hall, the hands of five jugglers blurred as they tossed swords, golden apples, and balls into the air with flawless rhythm. Fei continued to grip Luna's hand, pulling her to the banquet table, Cederic followed them and separated her from the warlock. The banquet was held at the top floor of one of the square towers that crowned each corner of the palace. Instead of being confined to tables and chairs, the vampires and a dozen special guests, most of them men, reclined on the plush nests of tasseled pillows and satin-covered shades of emerald, sapphire, and rubies.Low slung benches were filled with food that had been arranged in front of them, leaving more space for dancing girls to use the open area in the middle of the rectangle as an impromptu stage.Broad windows flanked each wall of the spacious chamber. Their wooden shutters had been thrown open to welcome in a balmy breeze along with the scent of night-blooming jasmine. It mingled with the enticing aromas wafting from the platters and bowls delivered by a steady pair of servants.The benches were crowded with bunches of plump grapes and platters of fresh figs and dried fruits glazed with sugar.As Luna waited for this entire celebration to end
