Alexandria saw blood splatter against the white paint. Bodies lay on the floor. Her parents. Their eyes were glassy. She remembered the exact day it occurred. In the autumn month of October. That was also the day she lost it. Her dreams of the memory replayed over and over again inside her mind. She would see dark shadows lurking in every corner. She was terrified. Why were these shadows following her? What did they want? She had nothing to offer them. She woke up and looked around the room. It was another day in the hospital. Alex kept running to put distance between her and the hospital so the guards couldn’t find her by daylight with the hounds. Exhausted, she walked in pain as the stones and tree roots were too much against the soft tender skin of her feet. She suddenly looked around nauseous as the darkness slowly crept towards to her.  She woke up next to a tree, her feet in agony from all the thorns she had stepped on the night before while running to freedom. Through her eyes, she saw a black shadow in front of her almost close enough to touch.
