One Year Gap

One Year Gap

Aishatuh M
"Daada, Maama; Did I for once told you what I want? You've always chosen what to wear for me, what I should eat, where I should go, even the environment I should stay in. Isn't that enough for you to grant my only wish?. It's okay if you don't want to, I might have been a burden on you. I'm sorry," with that, she sprinted to her room, locked it and broke into tears, ignoring their knockings. * "I think I will let you study abroad, but only under one condition; you have to get married; for I couldn't let you there all by yourself," Daada spoke haltingly, hoping she wouldn't agree, but her answer made his hope vanished. "It's okay, Daada, who's the guy? And have you started processing my admission?" She asked, a wide grin plastered on her face, not caring about the marriage thing, she thought it was all a threat. "It's Sadeeq, Alhaji Mustapha's son. But he studies in Qatar, that means you will also study there," Daada encapsulated, his face devoid of emotion. Ihsan looked up at Daada and wanted to bellow out the words, but they came out as a whisper "Daada..you mean Sadeeq? He's just 19 years old. How would I marry him? Who will take care of who? Uhm Daada?" She slurred, tears rolling down her cheeks. "He is. And would take good care of your health. What's there in marrying him? Isn't he a man?" Daada inquired. "There is; it's just a one year gap between us. And he isn't a man in my eyes," she reprimanded and broke into tears. _____ Would she agree on studying abroad? Fighting for her health, at the same time marrying the guy she looks down onto? As she would always avow "It's just a one year gap.

The Age of Innocence

The Age of Innocence

Edith Wharton
On a January evening of the early seventies, Christine Nilsson was singing in Faust at the Academy of Music in New York.Though there was already talk of the erection, in remote metropolitan distances "above the Forties," of a new Opera House which should compete in costliness and splendour with those of the great European capitals, the world of fashion was still content to reassemble every winter in the shabby red and gold boxes of the sociable old Academy. Conservatives cherished it for being small and inconvenient, and thus keeping out the "new people" whom New York was beginning to dread and yet be drawn to; and the sentimental clung to it for its historic associations, and the musical for its excellent acoustics, always so problematic a quality in halls built for the hearing of music.

I. CHOOSE. YOU (A Nigerian coming of age Novel)

I. CHOOSE. YOU (A Nigerian coming of age Novel)

Laurina Ukusajuya
'No matter what, No matter the time, No matter the place, No matter the century, No matter what's to come, I. will always. CHOOSE. YOU'. Everyone saw her as crazy..... But he saw her as nothing less than perfection. ................... "Why?" was the only thing he said. Confused I asked "Why what?" "Why do you always do this to yourself?" the tone in which he spoke almost seemed like he was heartbroken about something. "Do what?" I dared to ask, although I knew already within me I wouldn't like his response. "Conceal your worth" ....................... If you like this small insight of the story then please read on. The only thing I can guarantee you in this story is that it will definitely have an happy ending although for the two characters Rica and Dili to achieve that, they would have too pass through many difficult obstacles on their way to happiness. And trust me this isn't your normal Teenage story that is filled with rainbows and sunshine, there are a lot of gloomy days. If you don't mind that then please by all means do read on. .................. NOTE: This is a pure work of fiction. An original story by me. Buy me coffee? https://ko-fi.com/missrina

Marriage to the End

Marriage to the End

Bu Congrong
Six years ago, his last words laced with resentment were, “Qin Muchu, it’s over between us!” Six years later, when they were reunited, he had embraced her. “It’s time to pay back what you owe, with added interest!” “But I’m already married!” It was true. She had been married for almost six months now! Although… She knew nothing about her husband. Not his name, not even his last name. All she knew was that whenever someone spoke of the man, they held him in high regard.Until one day, said man fell out of the sky, appearing before her, and saving her just in time. She stared in shock and disbelief at the bad boy standing right in front of her. “Try saying ‘Hubby’,” he said with a straight face. She raged. “I want a divorce!”
