Jaxon, Tyrell, and Kayle were waiting patiently on what appeared to be a lift. It was rather big, and the railing that surrounded the area where they stood was strong and well-made. Jaxon walked over to an electronic keypad that was embedded in one of the poles on the lift. He flipped the cover up and typed in a four-digit code. He then pressed enter and shut the cover. The lift began to move downward.

The shaft was dark and empty, and it looked as if it was leading to nowhere. It began to get wider the further they went down until the walls of the shaft opened to reveal a huge room, brightly lit and with many people scrambling around. There were computers everywhere, some gathering data, some printing it. There were over five hundred people in that room alone, each taking care of a different problem. Some wore business outfits while others wore lab coats. There weren't many that were dressed like the three of them. On the far wall, the letters E.I.A were largely written in black. On the same wall was a huge screen with many computers near it.

The lift stopped, and the three of them got off. They all walked down the aisle, over to the other end of the room, which was a long walk. They passed many desks with many people who were trying to keep up with the swarming data they were receiving. It seemed like the room was in chaos. They kept walking and soon enough, they reached their destination. A man turned to them as they approached. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants. His hair was short and mahogany, hanging nearly to his ears. His eyes were a deeper shade of brown, but they were incredibly soft.

"Welcome back," he said with a cheerful manner. They didn't say anything to him. "I'm guessing the new weapons must have worked. The signal from that evil completely disappeared not that long ago. Congratulations." Jaxon just sighed and removed his glasses, revealing a pair of dark brown eyes.

"It wasn't us," he responded.

"What? But then what happened? If you didn't destroy it, then who did?"

"You wouldn't believe us if we told you," said Tyrell. He removed his glasses as well and put them in his pocket. His eyes were a deep green color.

"Try me."

"It was a kid," answered Kayle. She also removed her sunglasses, seeing that there was no reason to wear them inside. Her blue eyes matched her dark hair.

"A kid?"

"That's right," said Jaxon. "A kid by the name of Kyra Meredith."

"No way…it's impossible. No kid could have the technology that we have. We are the most innovative organization in the world."

"It wasn't a weapon that beaten that evil; it was her," explained Jaxon.

"But…how?"

"We don't really know," responded Kayle. "We do know that she's strong and that her power rivals that of the demons. She took it out easily. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes."

"Why didn't you bring her back here?" questioned the man. "You should have asked her to join us."

"I did," said Jaxon. "And she refused. She's just a kid, and she said she has her own life and doesn't want to give it up."

"I see…" Just then, a siren began to sound off. The man turned back to the screen and quickly pressed a few buttons. The screen began to display different places in the nearby area.

"Come on," he coaxed. He punched in a few more things and the screen pointed in on a certain area. The green screen was like a grid, showing the shape of the land, which was being represented with a brown color, and the more it narrowed in, the more descriptive and detailed the layout became. Suddenly, a red flashing light could be seen on the screen.

"There it is," he said. He brought up data on the screen. He read it through and then turned back to them. "This one is even bigger than the last one. You guys think you can handle it?"

"We don't have much of a choice in the matter. We'll go. Where is it?" asked Jaxon.

"Well, right now it's in the northern part of New Courage City," informed the man.

"That's where we just were," said Tyrell, slightly annoyed.

"Isn't that around the residential area of the city?" asked Kayle.

"Yes, so I suggest you guys get going before it causes any damage."

"Right," responded Jaxon. The three of them turned around and speedily ran down the aisle. They got back on the lift, and it started to go up again after the code was retyped. They got off the lift the second it stopped and took a right. The door slid open and they walked into what looked like a garage. Surprisingly, there was only one car in it, along with one motorcycle. They made their way to the shiny, black car they had just been in. Jaxon got in on the driver’s side, while Tyrell and Kayle both sat in the back seat.

Once they were in, Jaxon started the car and opened the garage door. The car drove out the door, going at top speed. It traveled upward for a while and then another huge door opened, leading them onto the highway. Jake pushed the accelerator as far as it would go and sped down the road, back towards the northern part of New Courage.

Not far from where Kyra had beaten the evil that had been chasing the three EIA agents, another one crawled out from the shadows. It was larger than the last one, but not by much. It hopped from building to building, its eyes glowing an angry red. It was heading towards the residential part of New Courage City, and it currently wasn't that far off.

After jumping a few more buildings, it came to a house that seemed out of place in a city like this. The house was rather small, but it did have two floors. The evil stopped on the building next to it and just sat there, its ruby eyes glowing.

"Soon…" it said in a deep and dark voice. "Soon girl, you will pay…"

"I'm going to bed mom!" called Kyra from the stairway.

"Okay! Goodnight!" shouted her mother.

"Goodnight!" Kyra walked up the rest of the stairs and went into her room. It was small but had what she needed. There was a bed and a dresser with a mirror. She didn't even bother changing out of her clothes and just jumped in her bed. It didn't take her long to fall asleep. Her room was always so warm and there was a window on the ceiling so that she could stare at the stars, but that didn't happen often. The sky seemed to always be cloudy at night, but on clear nights she'd look up at them before falling asleep.

Just outside of her house, an evil was standing on a nearby building. It gave a threatening grin, the kind that could easily strike fear into the heart of even the angriest of creatures. Its red eyes glowed viciously.

"The time has come," it said. It didn't even move its mouth when speaking. Its skin was a darker color than the first one that night. It opened its mouth wide and a ball of what appeared to be fire formed in it.

Not long after, the ball exploded into a stream of fire, hitting the small house. The wooden house quickly caught on fire, and once the fire started, it spread quickly. The evil gave its grin again, laughing in that same, deep, hate filled voice.Inside the house, the flames were beginning to break through as parts from the ceiling fell, spreading the fire even further. In her bed, Kyra began to feel overwhelmingly hot, and her discomfort woke her up. She quickly sat up and looked around as she saw her room burning. Luckily, her dresser wasn'

The girl dropped her arms to her sides and jumped off the building and back onto the ground. She landed gracefully and then turned to look at the three people dressed in black. She was now in the light of a streetlamp and they could see her completely. Her hair was a purple. It came down nearly to her shoulders. Her bangs were spiked on one side and hung down normally on the other. Her eyes were a deep purple. She wore black pants that fit tightly. Over them, she wore a short, purple skirt. She had on brown boots that came up a few inches above her ankles. Over her shoulders was what looked like a cape, only shorter and more elegant, like a small cloak. It covered her shirt completely, showing only part of her arms and her hands. She just looked at the three people now in front of her.

  • A True Hybrid   CHAPTER 1

The sky was dark, a color that was seen often nowadays. The pools of water on the ground, left from a fresh rainfall, would ripple occasionally, when a stray drop would fall from an overhanging pipe or street sign. The city looked as if it had been abandoned. It was a total mess. There were cracks in some of the buildings. Some street signs hung downward and were bent in several places. The dark clouds from the recent rainfall still hung in the sky. The only light came from the few streetlamps that were still undamaged.
