"ELSA!" I call out to her again.

This time my voice comes out a little louder than a whisper.

She is on her knees. Legs and hands tied with a rope so tight it is already bruising her skin. Her entire face is badly bruised. There is a purple splash of color on her left eye which is swollen and a cut across her lips with a trail of blood running from her hair down her jaw. Her clothes are torn in too many places for me to count.

The sight of my Elsa in front of me, brings tears to my eyes and I try to get to her but the ever alert guards by my side hold me down. I scream and trash around but the hold they have on me is too strong.

All the while Elsa keeps her one good eye on me. Her bashed lips seem to be moving but all I can hear is a constant ringing and my own heart beat.

My protests cause everyone to turn their attention on me and I am forced to zone back into the situation.

"....she is a murderer!.." Silas is saying.

"Lies! You are lying!"

As he turns to look at me, that's when I realise that he can hear me from up there. Before I can say more, the guard at my back gags me with a clothe to prevent me from saying anything more. They apply more pressure on their hold on me, to keep me from struggling.

I only widen my eyes at the accusations Silas keeps throwing at Elsa who seem to be going in and out of consciousness.

What can I do? Elsa is the one who is good at handling situations like this. What can I do?

My mind tries to think of ways to help us out of this situation but it comes back empty. Again.

Through out our childhood, she has always been like a mother and elder sister. She makes all the decisions, got into fights and everything. All for me.

Now that she is stuck up there in pain....I am helpless.

"....she killed Ruth and Samuel, both her team mates...in cold blood.."

I open my eyes so wide in disbelief that it feels like they will pop out of their sockets!

My vision becomes blurred, thanks to my tears. I squeeze my eyes shot and drop my head in order to clear it.

When I look at Silas again, he is no longer on the podium but Bellman is and just like his boss he confirms the accusations. Saying Elsa used black magic to bury them so no human could find them. He goes on and on about his bravery and how they caught her.

But I know it's all a lie. Elsa can never kill anybody. She might be a little aggressive but she will never kill anyone. Not Samuel. Not Ruth. Not anyone or anything.

Bellman goes down and Silas comes up to pronounce the punishment and I keep zoning out getting only bits of it.

".....according to the laws governing our city.....Petran is sentenced to death by hanging....."

At that moment everything starts happening like I am watching it from someone else's eyes. I increase my struggles to get free.

They start to drag her to the pole and I continue struggling and screaming stuffs that are inaudible thanks to the gag between my lips.

My legs go weak and I slump on my knees watching as Elsa is pulled up so they can pass the hoop from the pole unto her neck.

At that moment our eyes lock again and I make out what she has been mumbling since she saw me.

"....I....a...m......s....o.....r...r...y....."

There are tears in her eyes and that breaks the remaining bones in my body that my own pain has not broken already.

My heart starts constricting in pain just seeing her so helpless. My bones start aching like I am the one being hanged and I restart my fruitless objective of getting free from the multiple hands trying to keep me away from the podium. The gag loosens from my mouth and my screams escapes.

"Let me go!.....Elsa!"

I try stretching my hands towards her, my voice breaking into sobs when I see that they have dropped the rope and Elsa- my Elsa is choking.

Elsa is dangling, her hands still tied.

Her face becomes red from the flow of blood into her head caused by the rope stealing her life away from her.

Stealing her away from me.

Her brown eyes look three times bigger than their usual size and her tongue is out of her mouth as she keeps struggling to survive, all the while looking at me like she has one more thing to tell me.

She is dying.

"NO!" I scream.

I feel something stir from deep within my core.

I am sorry Mamie! I can't let her die...

The ground immediately starts shaking violently. The guards holding me down starts loosing their grip but still, they linger on me.

The vibrations increase causing the ground to crack, people start screaming and running for safety. Running away from the podium, away from the administration building. Away from Elsa.

The guards holding me down lose their hold on me and I race towards Elsa but just before I can climb up to the podium, someone pulls me from my ankle and I hit the ground roughly.

I spit out blood and turn around to see who my assailant is...

"Where do you think you are going Darhk?" Bellman's shadow falls on me and I see the guard who pulled me down grinning like he just got a promotion.

The guard comes at me but he stops dead on his tracks and starts shaking like a lone plant in the middle of a storm.

"What do you think you are doing!" Bellman shouts, his voice wavering a little at the end. The earthquake intensifies.

But the guard keeps staring at me in shock his body still in the trance. Cracking sounds emerge from where the guard stands, yet he still did not move.

"GRAB THE GIRL AND LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!!" Bellman screams above the crackling sounds.

But the guard still doesn't move.

He comes forward to push the guard aside so he can reach me himself.

Just as his finger stretches forward, the ground opens up and swallows the guard, leaving a shocked Bellman staring into my now glowing green eyes.

"How?" I am dumbstruck! How can this even be possible? And if it is possible, this can save the city a lot of trouble. If it can be done on a larger scale, then a lot of people will have food."You will show this to the city officials right?" I ask getting excited."No," he replies looking sad."Why? Why not?" The pitch of my voice starts increasing due to anger."Why not? Why can't you show the officials? You are from compound three right? Isn't that suppose to be your specialty?" I fire at him my cheeks burning with rage.Compound three's duty is to experiment and work on technology which aids different activities in other compounds. Like the chemical compound two uses to treat water was designed by them. There are also builders who are sent there to learn new ways of reinforcing old structures or constructing new ones and so many other things.

The gods do not grant my wish because I still feel the wind change temperature from hot during the day when the sun was up and cold when the sun was down and night was fast approaching. It is the only thing that makes me keep count of the numbers of days I spend on the ground refusing to live.Refusing to open my eyes to a world without Elsa. The sun is beginning to set again and my body is just starting to give in to the earth when I feel vibrations on the ground. Someone is coming. Not long after, my thoughts are confirmed when I hear footsteps approach me but I keep still, trying to figure out what the intruder's next move will be or what they can possibly want from me.I hear more movements some where around me, like whoever it is, is trying to set up something. But I refuse to open my eyes. Or leave the ground.

"It is, you!" he stammers and moves a foot backward looking up at the podium."What have we done?!" he whispers to himself. Another crack is heard and he takes flight away from me."EDEN!" I break my concentration from Bellman who is still running like a ghost is after him and turn towards the caller.Mrs Spencer is on the podium floor with Elsa in her arms and tears in her eyes calling out to me. I get on my feet and run as fast as I can, eliminating the distance between us."I am sorry. I am so sorry. I tried reaching here as fast as I could but-" Her voice breaks and she resumes crying. My brain refuses to comprehend what she is trying to say to me. I slump down on my knees closer to Elsa and shake her awake."Elsa. It's over. We can leave now," I tell her in a tiny voice afraid

I wake up slowly feeling sour all over. The idiot that brought me here must have dragged me all the way.I stand up and take a good look at my surrounding. Ignoring the horrible smell that kisses my nostrils.I am in a room with no bed, no chair, no window, just a bowl by the corner that certainly contains someone's wastes and a small bulb on the ceiling. The writings on the walls make no sense at all to me. I look in front of me and notice the iron bars, like the kind they use in a cell.I move to the bars and try to

  • GREEN   Chapter Ten

His voice echoes in my ears and lingers on longer than necessary making me stand still; lost in my own thoughts. What sort of mission is this? How can they do this to Elsa? To us? All these questions keep going on in my head and it is starts to hurt because I am not even sure I could do it. Heck who am I kidding? I can not do something like that. I don't even think my so- called abilities are capable of something like that. I look and find Bellman smiling evilly at us and some of the guards mirror his look. Samuel who is by my side looks like he is deep in thought. His usually well combed dark hair was tousled pointing in weird angles, like he didn't even look at the mirror before stepping out of his house. Elsa on the other hand has a less worry face than any of us. She just stares on like a soldier planning their next line of action.
