  Josh stood petrified and looked at the hole where the trapdoor had been a minute ago. He knew what that meant and he didn't like it at all. After a minute he put a large board over the opening and then ran back. He knew that he wouldn't find Kari now. She knew the streets and alleys better than he did and, above all, it was too dark. He wanted to run home and tell his father what had happened, but stopped halfway. The door to the great hall was open and he could hear the voice of his father and the other leaders. He went closer and heard Kari's name a few times. Then it dawned on him what was going on here. Immediately he opened the door to the great hall and went inside.
