It was about seven am in the morning  Mr Coker woke up like every other working day, he got himself dressed for work and left immediately without having breakfast. Mrs Coker woke up from her sleep as the droplets of rain that fell in torrents last night made the morning air breezy and cold, it was indeed a wet night. She got up from the bed clumsily and looked at the wall clock placed in the middle of the room adjacent to their bed. It was seven thirty in the morning, she grouched still feeling sleepy. She laid back again in bed and watched as two black birds hopping on the window sang beautifully. Her senses felt numb accompanied by a feeling of tiredness as they was a need to rest. Immediately she recalled that a presentation had to be given in the office, and it needed to be attended to quickly. Getting up from her bed she went into the bathroom and had her bath. Instructions was passed by her to everyone that was part of the household. The day was young, until about one o, clock by noon a creaking sound was heard by Edna as she went to the kitchen. It felt startling for her, as her sight captured a fierce looking man with a mask on his face.

She chose to live her life on the street the simple reason was that she could not stand the financial problems, that befell on her family thereby leading her to getting involved with the hoodlums of the streets, but things were getting tougher as most of the security authorities were on the  watch to ensure security around the vicinity. They had been recent cases of cult group clashes and some of the

people involved had been arrested.

Lovelyn set out that evening, to see one of the street Lords who had now gained dominance in what most people in the inner-city referred to as  sheol. It had been scary when she first started but with some exposure on how things are done, she was now getting accustomed with the pitfalls. A feeling of relentlessness had never come to her, although the thought of stopping had been on her mind before but their was a need to make more money. She walked on the street as the moon shone reflecting her shadow on the tarred road. Their were still road side hawkers on the road as the chattering sounds of little children echoed, she stepped into one of the club that was close to a brothel.

The loud sound of music boomed as everyone danced to the rhythm of the song. The place was looking dark as their were blue and red lights flickering around the room as afro pop music played. Lovelyn walked to were the bartender was and ordered for a bottle of beer, she sat on a chair reflecting deeply on her new way of life that she dejected so much. But she had to make a choice and she had made a risky one. A waitress indecently dressed, walked to a table to serve drinks. She was about leaving when one of the men tapped her slightly on her buttocks and roared with laughter. She turned instantly and gave him a slap on his face which made him aroused with rage as he kicked her forcefully, sending her to the ground immediately as she groaned in pain. He slapped her twice at both sides of her cheek as he brought out his belt to give her a whip while everyone watched him and cheered.

"Hey you stop that, a man with multiple scars on his face spoke." The place was dim and quiet now as everyone turned to look at the man.

"And why do you think I should stop?"

"Who do you think you are?" The man asked, Lovelyn watching the gruesome scene and thinking that danger might occur looked for a way to escape before things became worse.

"Fight, fight, fight" the crowd cheered louder. A terrible gun shot sounded filling the bar with intense fear. People began to scream and run out of the bar, Lovelyn ran out in the midst of the chaos. She saw other people running out of the bar, when she saw that there was no sight of people she stopped to take a deep breath. She entered a dilapidated building and pulled out a pack of cigarette and lit one up drawing smoke into her mouth. That evening when she got home, her mother was wide awake waiting for her return patiently. She tiptoed through the back door and went into the house, Lynette her mother seeing her as she tiptoed slowly in the dark was quiet with rage, she sat down shaking her feet lightly on the ground.

"And were are you coming from?" Lynette questioned angrily.

"Mother can you please not rant today." She said in a pleading tone.

"I went to see a friend." She replied frowing her face.

"And you decided to walk into this house at this time of the day?" Lynette spoke again.

"Mama you have started again with your troubles."

"I went to look for a better option for us." She replied grumbling.

Lynette pushed her forcefully out of the house and bolted the door forcefully. Her heart was filled with rage as she started banging on the wooden door severally until her strength faded away but there was no reply. Feeling tired, she laid down on the cemented frontage and then when sleep came with it's weakness her eyelids closed as she slept.

The seasons for the rains had come and it seemed to Edna like the gate of heavens were open as rain fell down heavily. She heard a sound but could not detect immediately if it was her mind playing games with her or a reality. She recalled that she had seen a strange man at the kitchen during the weekend but the idea of telling Mrs Coker wasn't a pleasant one as she felt it was inappropriate considering the emotional turmoil she was experiencing. Cold shivers ran through her body as the thought of strange figures moving around the house scared her. A screeching sound came from the main entrance of the house which got her startled as it increased her curiosity."What if they were dangerous people at the door." She thought. It would be of great relief if someone could walk to the sitting room and observe were the sounds were coming from, but every member of the household seemed to be asleep except for her which even increased the tension she felt
