Chapter 19

I wasn’t actually mad at Sheila for calling Natalie a dumb city woman but it seemed more sensitive to the fact that both her and Dana wouldn’t admit to liking women long before now. Bringing Dana back in the picture isn’t what I had in mind when Natalie called her from the house phone though it seemed Sheila over reacted that Dana had to get her kids and was making her way back once everything in custody worked out. It took everything I could to calm Sheila from her excitement that Dana would return and that they would be moving into their own place a few doors down from them.

“I didn’t know that their was a house for sale two doors down from here.” I said looking at Natalie.

“Turns out the people that lived there before moved out two years ago and they hadn’t had anybody buy the house since then. Dana decided to buy it for her, Sheila and the kids.” Natalie explained.

“Are we going to be babysitting? I am not fit for kids.” I responded.

“Dana will probably find a daycare for them but if them two get married you will have no choice but to get used to Tyler and Lily.” Natalie replied.

“Tyler and Lily? Interesting names.” I responded pondering the idea of kids running around her barn.

“Babe, it’ll be fine. These two are proper anyways due to their asshole father. All he cared about was posture, standing still and a bunch of other childish things. These kids aren’t normal kids by any means and that is the way their dad wanted it.” Natalie explained.

“Darlin’ you don’t understand no matter how prim and proper they are. They will hate this life in the country. It is all about hard work and labor. Dana is a very city woman like you and neither of you have a clue how this life is.” I responded by biting my lip.

“I have been with you for almost a year to know if this is going to be a problem with us then why are we even trying? We are always bickering about something or anything that makes you unhappy. I am questioning whether staying here is a good thing.” Natalie replied as she turned red with anger.

I knew better than to speak when she is madder than a wet hornet and that is putting it gently. I bowed my head down as I knew this time I did cross the line on judgement. Anyone can be in the country and live the country life, it is my thought that no one can be trained to my lifestyle though Natalie has taken it in stride and has gained life here. The only thing I knew I could do is apologize to Natalie because she will always stand correct on my life and the way I should treat people including kids.

“I am truly sorry love. My judgement needs to be washed out the door. You are correct. I am foolish to not see that Dana and her kids couldn’t handle this life in the country and it is my stupidity that is blinded.” I said with my head down in shame.

I watched as Natalie stormed out of the house as Sheila looked at her in question. It took all I could not to tell Sheila about what went down but as best friends we never hid anything no matter how bad it is for either of us.

“I made a big mistake on judging Dana and the kids coming here assuming they couldn’t live here in the country when Natalie has proved that their is no difference in the matter who can and can’t.” I said looking at Sheila with hope.

“Seriously? Amber, I swear you can’t keep your mouth shut long enough for anyone to enjoy a happy moment including Natalie accepting that Dana can be with me. You literally have no filter when it comes to opinions and it shows.” Sheila replied with anger in her voice.

I felt really small at this point knowing that I have majorly screwed up before I could say anything else Sheila went outside with Natalie and they both avoided me as much as possible. It became a hard task to talk to either of them. Natalie ended up sleeping in the living room instead of the bedroom and Sheila hid in her bedroom. After a few hours alone in bed, I heard moving from downstairs then someone coming up the stairs, and to the bedroom opening a little. I didn’t dare move to my amazement it was Natalie who stepped in the bedroom and closed the door quietly. I felt Natalie cuddle into bed next to me as she breathed a sigh of relief as I held her hand and kept her close to me. I lifted her knuckled and kissed it as she sighed again. I knew at that point that I had to roll over and look at her.

“Natalie.” I whispered.

“Mmmm...” She replied.

“I am sorry.” I whispered again.

“Mmmhmmm.” Natalie replied again.

I chuckled then kissed her forehead letting her enjoy sleep while I didn’t dare to bother her anymore with hopes by morning, Sheila would forgive me too.

I couldn’t believe Natalie left. Journey surprisingly came into the driveway it felt like High School all over again. This didn’t feel right having Journey show up unannounced not that I have been near the phone lately with Sheila gone and now Natalie too. Journey Harper has always been full of life even when we dated back in High School until Sarah destroyed it to have me. It took me several years to get over the fact that Sarah had ruined my love life but she ended up being all I had left.“Hey Amber, it is so good to see you. Where is your new woman? Everybody in town is talki

Somehow or another the driving didn’t phase Amber making their way back as Natalie thought it would but once they arrived at their home it looked untouched but then you could see clothes on the lot and priceless items that shouldn’t be there. Natalie didn’t understand what Sarah could be doing by taking out everything that Amber has owned for years. Natalie watched as Amber stormed up to the house as Natalie followed behind her as quickly as she could.“Sarah! Get out of my house!” Amber yelled as loud as she could.

Natalie headed inside to the hotel, made her way to the front desk and made her room arrangements. It took thirty minutes to find her room then getting her bags as she settled for the night. Natalie couldn’t believe that she is left alone in her world with no kids, no man or woman, now lonely as tears flowed down her eyes. Natalie slowly drifted off to sleep on the bed that is only for her as she heard pounding on her door, it startled her completely since she wasn’t expecting anyone, and as she slowly went to look through the peephole she noticed it wasn’t a joke that Sarah Starr is still alive and pissed off.

Natalie didn’t know what to do with herself once she left Amber. It broke her heart that she still had to be caught between her dead ex wife and herself to meet Amber’s attention. Natalie pulled the car off to an empty lot and cried her eyes out, also slamming her hands against the steering wheel, she hated everything at this point and wished she could fix it all with Amber. Natalie decided to turn the car around and head back since she wasn’t far at all, punishing Amber for holding onto Sarah is a bad thing since their love is much more stronger than a ring. Sadly once she got into the driveway she saw a car that didn’t belong there and Natalie’s fears crept up into her throat. After delaying thoughts of going inside Natalie grabbed her purse then made her way in

We had finally reached our destination in the middle of the night, a desert like area but you can see the stars and much more of the horizon. I couldn’t believe how Natalie had found this place with driving to wherever they may be. I climbed out of the car the same time Natalie did as we met in front of the car then leaned against the hood.“This is my dream when being out here. I love where home is too that we can see the stars but this is amazing for the middle of nowhere for miles on end.” Natalie whispered.

That next morning, I woke up extremely early to make breakfast for both ladies and made sure to have juice, coffee, sweet tea, and water ready at the table along with toast, creamer, sugar, and grape jelly. I couldn’t contain my excitement on making Natalie and Sheila feel happy for once without being judgemental on my case. As soon as I saw Sheila though that certain look where she is disappointed made me feel the same. Sheila also had her luggage ready by the door.“Dana, will be here in a couple of hours and we are going to the new house. I don’t expect you to show up and put
