Chapter 15 See His Face One Last Time

These tall white figures looked like swollen corpses that had been soaked in water for a long period of time. I was frightened. If it was a ghost, it should not dare to appear during daylight!

“Those figures… Are they the teenagers who died in the lake?”

After inspecting the figures, the man shook his head. “I’m not sure. I don’t dare to take a closer look. I remember that the teenagers who died in the lake were female teenage students. Their figures usually appear under the water and they only seemed to surface in the past ten days. Luckily the weather is cold and no one else was around.”

Why did it not appear on the surface of the water in the past. Why was it only appearing then? I remembered that I only started being a shaman roughly ten days ago. Could it be that they were coming after me?

I found myself overacting, as it was most likely just a coincidence.

The woman said in a very soft and faint tone. I was frightened to the point that I could not move my feet but we had already made so much progress. I took out the stack of talismans that I drew last night and passed one to the couple each. Even though I was afraid, I was more afraid that something might happen to the couple because of me, so I asked them to wait for me at the side of the lake and I would approach the figures myself.

I needed to verify whether the three figures were actually spirits or corpses. I would be afraid to find any one of those. Regardless, I had to approach the figures and if my talisman did not work on them, I would just return and ask Yinggu to settle it herself.

I then approached the three figures slowly. The figures became clearer as I got closer.

It was three corpses and they were in a bloated state. However, the bodies did not seem like they were bloated because of water. The corpses were frozen and positioned vertically at the corner of an ice cave. The corpses were of 3 young women who looked like they were my age, and they were naked from waist down. I wondered what had happened to them.

Could they be the girls who drowned in the lake?

I approached them cautiously with the talismans in my hand and placed the talismans around the three bodies. The bodies did not move and were still frozen.

I found it rather strange that they revealed themselves. Was it their intention to appear and scare off other people?

I was thinking that if they attacked me, I would use my talisman to deal with them but they were not moving. I did not know what to do with them and I looked like a fool who did not know what I was doing. I was not afraid anymore but rather agitated. If I do not do anything, how do I explain it to the couple?

I was thinking to myself that it would be great to have Liu Longting with me.

As I was crouching next to the bodies and thinking of how to deal with them, I heard a man’s voice coming from behind, “You’re really a retard. The bodies have already appeared. All you need to do is call the police!”

I turned around and saw Liu Longting!

At that moment, I felt like calling him daddy. I had forgotten all my dislikes about him, quickly stood up, and welcomed him. He was wearing a navy blue coat with a white fur collar, a checkered scarf, neat hair, and holding a medium-sized briefcase. He looked very warm and fashionable.

I did now know Liu Longting had such a good sense of fashion. All this while I thought that he only wore white-colored clothing. As he approached me, I quickly took over his briefcase and asked him, “I thought you went home? Why are you still here?”

I was a little annoyed at the way he talked about me so I told him that there was nothing I could do as they did not appear to be moving.

As Liu Longting inspected the bodies, he seemed as if he knew the girls. He then said, “These girls have died for some time. I believe there are colder areas in the lake, or there are areas where the lake is frozen all year round. Their bodies did not rot because they were frozen all this time. In regards to how they died, you need to summon Yue Tianxiang to find out why. She’s better at communicating with the dead than I am.”

Summon Yue Tianxiang? The woman who was exiled when I was helping Wang Hong?

“How do I summon her?” I asked.

Liu Longting was too lazy to teach me so he possessed my body and told me to repeat what he does later. Yue Tianxiang was one of our people so if I wanted to summon them in the future, I need to sing some words.

Liu Longting placed my right middle and ring fingers on the thumb and started singing, “Bay of eighteen left turns, three lakes form the sky, dead souls in the sky, welcome Mrs. Yue Tianxiang to the guard, guard what you may ask? Question the souls of the dead, whether they have any regrets?”

After the singing ended, Liu Longting used the same finger to draw Yue Tianxiang’s name on the layer of ice. He did it very slowly. As soon as the drawing was done, I felt a breeze of cold air in my direction.

It was rather mysterious and as soon as Yue Tianxiang possessed me, I started hearing the girls crying. The girls emerged out of the ice, begging for us to help them. They were the female college students who went to the lake a few years ago for a trip. They thought that the water in the lake looked clear so they took off their clothes and started swimming in the lake. They were suddenly taken by a whirlpool and their bodies got stuck in an ice cave until recently when their bodies were freed from the cave and surfaced to the lake. All they wanted was for us to bring them home and bury them.

As Yue Tianxiang questioned whether the girls had any last wishes, two of them said no, but one of them—who was quite pretty—said, “I have one last wish, which is to be able to meet Liu Longting one last time. I know that he’s here.”

She knew Liu Longting? I was in disbelief. She was just a normal human being. Why did she want to meet Liu Longting? Did they have a secret past?
